86 is just a modern day Celica - A hairdresser's car with a wheezy 4 cylinder engine, all looks and not much else. The list of true performance cars under $100k that would wipe the floor with it is endless. |

Good result for Ford thats for sure.
I like the 86, but i think i could something a little better than that for 100k, but each to their own.

That's a good slap in the face to Paul Gover in Cars Guide. I was just taking a look through the newspaper supplement and he gave his 10 or 12 best choices. There wasn't one Ford. Sorry to be vague but I did just glance over it.

There is no such thing as a "true" performance car, it all comes down to the criteria that you want to use. 0-100 is only one factor, no doubt price was considered in the "peoples" performance car, not Top Gears performance car. This constant bagging of four pots, and the reverse in terms of Falcons being "barges", is becoming tiring and a tad boring.

Perhaps it would have been more realistic if they judged it best performance car under $40k? |

seems like a fair list of winners..congrats to Ford, two well deserved awards.
really only two on that list I would question, the 86 and the GTR. Personally I would have thought the M135i or the A45 would have taken out the <100k and over 100k I would have thought the Cayman or GT3. In saying that the GTR and 86 are brilliant cars and do deserve the award too. The people that judge it have more experience in any of these cars than I do.

Given its "peoples choice" I'm thinking just that all the 86 owners voted and since there's a lot of them that's what has made it a "popular" winner, not actually winning on all round performance merit, but simply representing a very large and current market.
Soo many better performance cars under 100k, really should be in an under 40k category tbh |

Im still not understanding how an 86 isnt classed as a performance car, oh imagine if it had a Ford badge on it and it was called a Capri....

A performance car is meant to be fast and powerful, which the 86 is neither. What's the point of having handling when it has as much power as a Camry?

Its peoples choice. The 86 is the new kid on the block so was bound to get a lot of votes. Its a good car for the price but its really just a hot hatch in RWD coupe form. They should have changed the category to under 50k performance.

Peoples choice always going to be something that doesn't necessarily make sense to the enthusiast. How about we focus on the wins for Ford here and not worry about making sense of something that we don't expect to make sense in the first place?
Three vehicles there.....good to see some enthusiasm for the Ford product. I've always wondered why Fiesta doesn't stand out more, I see TONS of the new ones around my area.
