Default harrassment from neighbours for "HOONING"

OK so I had a neighbour who is a good mate of the family come over the road this afternoon and let me know the cops are investigating hooning in my street by a black ute(I Own a black au XR8 ute) Apparently doing burnouts and speeding and all the rest. That part is good because he knows my car and Knows that I don't drive like a clown in my street.
The bad part is that I have only just recently finished building my ute and it is a little loud but the motor isn't even 400 km's old. not to mention that you would have to be crazy to do anything stupid near my house. but nevertheless I have noticed that in the last couple of weeks that two or three times a week police cars have been siting in the street for about 45mins at a time. once I even went and asked them what they were doing
What I am a bit annoyed at is I had my car stolen 6 months ago and written off, I found out the name of the person who did it in 6 hours yet they have still not found any information and can't be bothered and as soon as somebody says that a car is being loud BAM they are there waiting

Now what do I do about my issue? do I confront the couple of people that are ringing the police over a loud car or do I let it go and not drive the car for a while? being on the hoon list for sure now I will be harassed for sure if I want to go for a drive and enjoy my car like we should be able to do in a free country

How did you find out the name of the person who stole your car? Do you know for sure or are you relying on hearsay? I am just surprised that if you can find out the name so easily, surely the police would have no trouble doing the same? Correct me if I am wrong...

Common sense dictates that if its not you, then you have nothing to be worried about. Surely some proof would be needed, not just "he's got a black ute, it has to be him". Seems extreme/unlikely for the cops to camp out and watch for a hoon, its such a low on the totem pole thing.

that's the thing tho it's not a drama because I don't do it in the first place. it does explain a big police presence lately. if they spent the time on more fruitful pursuits like catching criminals the country would be in good shape but they hassle people with shiny wheels on their cars like bower birds

Do nothing except maybe put in a (temporary) extra muffler and keep driving.
Unless you are a hoon and have **** in your own nest, then suck it up.

Why not just get your exhaust fixed so it is not so loud if you are worried about it??

Cheers

Mmm, I think you're screwed, unless the other black ute has had it's rego taken and reported to the mobile tax collectors.
If they have just had random reports of a black ute, you'll be suspect number one without ever having done a thing wrong.
I'd be making sure your car is 100% legit as you will be targeted by the PoPo.
Mind you, your house could probably get burgled while they are in the street and they wouldn't even bat an eyelid as the person 'hooning' is the real criminal.

whether it was your car or not, a black ute is now on the watch list, i would for sure be putting a muffler on and treading lightly, just a thought........... does anyone else drive your car ???

Time to come clean, are you doing burnouts in your area?

I had a young kid do burnouts outside my house in a white ve ute sv6, lives in the area and often stops for a few skids/drifting. He once lost control of it almost hit a car head on. I called the police with his rego. I see him drive past now but no more burnouts.

More silly cop-bashing...

Who are they hassling?

How are they meant to be catching crooks with out being out and about?

A concerned member of the public has provided police with details of a car that is doing the wrong thing in the wrong place...(now, im not on my high horse anti burnouts etc.) But obviously there has been some actions that someone has found to be dangerous...and the police are just doing there job...

A bloke I know got stung, liked to get his moto up to some silly speeds, and a shop owner reported him...sure enough, a few days later he was nabbed...

But of course, the police are just an nuisance...

Now if someone was speeding down your street, lost it and hit your prized black ute you would be the first person jumping on the phone requesting the police post-haste to catch this gawd awful vagrant...

Bit touchy there mate, noones cop bashing here,go have a cup of tea and relax
To the op,just make your exhaust a bit quieter and dont stress about it if youve done nothing wrong, some people ring up and lie about hooning just to get people in the poo because they have a modified car that may be a bit louder than average.
I got security cameras installed at my house because i have nosy neighbours who like to ring, cops, water corp, council etc and make false reports about so called stuff ive done, funny i dont get hassled now i have the cameras, and it was the coppers who suggested i get the cameras...
Coppers are there to sort problems out and can only go on what info theyve been told whether it be true or false ,thats why they are hanging round to see for themselves.
Keep your nose clean and you will be alright.

Keep ya car legal and dont act hoonish and all should be good.

I myself been singled out for my car, been told looks like a drug dealers car lolol.
I have also had ppl speed past me but cops pull me up instead doing the limit.

Nothing has actually happened to you though and its just assumptive on your part that they are targeting you.

Again, legal mode, legal exhaust and dont act silly.

Not knowing the full story makes it hard to suggest what went on, but if he only had a name to go by (I assume he took this name to the police), chances are the police asked questions at least...a stolen and burnt out car wouldn't necessarily be a breeding ground for fingerprints to time someone to the stolen car...

But he suggests that "they can't be bothered" that's purely speculation...

Still failing to see the harassment part of this whole story...

Jeez, people get antsy about negative PoPo reactions.
The 'system' is open to abuse. Nothing is stopping one single neighbour who takes offence to something or anything you have not even car related, then reporting you 'hooning' out of spite.

Agreed. They're doing their job, the job we all want the traffic police to do; take dangerous drivers off the road. If someone reported some numpty driving dangerously along that road then the police are just following up in trying to catch him. I used to think that the anti enthusiast mentality that people claim is rife was true, until I owned a cammed, blown and slammed VZ Tonner for a year, only got pulled up twice in something that wasn't engineered, was well less than 100mm off the ground, was obnoxiously loud and I admit to driving like a ******** at times. Cops may at time target 'enthusiasts' in a bid to remove badly modified cars, but the sky isn't falling.

I wouldn't even think about posting here if I was doing the wrong thing that would just be stupid, I don't usually drive the car and it stands out like dogs b**ls
so if I was doing the wrong thing it wouldn't be long before they showed up looking for me, the problem for me is we can't get people off the streets that are doing the wrong thing but I have a car that yes it's a bit loud but not ridiculously loud and I have two people who I know to be whingers, carrying on because they have nothing better to do than call the police over a trivial waste of time. now instead of catching people like the skum that stole my car and got caught doing 195kph in a 60 zone they are sitting waiting for a car that comes out once in a blue moon.
I am no angel like most of us here I enjoy driving but I am not stupid enough to do stupid things on the road in a built up area.
I think maybe some people outside of Queensland should come up here and see the stupidity of the "HOONING" issue first hand.
people with nice cars that are looked after and driven with self control and common sense are hassled and dangerous drivers in standard cars are left to go about their stupidity. it happens far too much

Always wondered why u here these useless stories about police and the way they do things.........how many times have you seen police sitting near round abouts....booking people who don't indicate.....roundabouts being a huge accident zone............it seems they don't actually care....it's all about money, figures and politics.
(Otherwise women would be taught how to drive/respect cars or whatever it is that makes them bad driving serial offenders.) And flame me all you like....every person I've EVER convinced to take note on the sex of bad driving will back me up.(no blinkers, cutting people off, near misses,on the phone, for eg)

Hoon laws....PAH. What a joke.......yeah let's target the smallest of minorities there's is

the description was that black ute from that(my) address. there is a bit of hooning in my street which is mainly people driving past like idiots and I have helped an old lady out of her car after she pulled out in front of the house across the road(not hooning related) it's a main road

Some of the replies in this thread are terrible, you guys should have your posts proof read.
I don't even want to respond, despite knowing someone who was in a similar position once. All I can say is that often, what the neighbor says isn't always accurate, it's probably embellished a little, and what the accused says isn't always accurate, it's downplayed a little. Who are the cops supposed to side with, what can they do, etc. they are faced with two parties unwavering from their stories.

Loud exhaust pfffft

Start the lawn mower up every morning for the next month at the earliest or latest permitted time and let it run for an hour or 2.

Show them what loud is lol

Unfortunately the public presume cars with loud exhausts to be all hoons as the media & the government have brain washed them.

Although these same ppl are the ones that speed past me in school zones and everywhere else
