Default Pays to shop around for insurance.

So I have to just insure my ute for third party property and I rang around car insurance companies.

As its modified I had a few issues.
HBF said no due to the mods.
AAMI said no due to the mods.
Budget Direct said no due to the mods.
Shannon's list of accepted clients ruled me out.
RAC quoted $180 with limited benefits
SGIO quoted $170 with a lot of fine print.
Just Cars quoted $190 with $400 excess
Progressive quoted $220
Youi quoted $350 with $700 excess!
And another company (can't remember) made the quote application incredibly difficult, wanting to know every minute detail about the car and myself and a lot if the I do I had no idea.

I've decided to go with Just Cars as they seem like we both are on the same page.

Youi blew me away with their quote and they are cheeky as when doing a quote they treated it as I was setting up a contract. He told me that after I hang up I can look around and if I find a better quote I can ring him back up and cancell the contract. I just told him tell me the quote and I can tell him now.

Just thought I'd share my experience with you.

Good day.

Just cars, decided to add $1500 vehicle excess to my policy this year just because I have a GT. They increased my premium by $40 (190 a month) a month. Also would only insure my GT for $19950.

RACV offered me a premium of $160 a month, $300 excess and insure my GT for $22500.

Just car used to be good, but they screwed me this year.

But with Just car, I have had a couple of claims and not 1 problem.

I have everything but my New Fiesta with Shannons
Shannons are cheapest and lowest excess and 1 free windscreen per car per year
and easy to talk to and now i'm max NCB for life
only reason my fiesta is not insured with them as Ford insured it and i paid this in my finance so next year will be shannons
how come shannons ruled you out?
i'm even with shannons for my home and contents they were still cheaper than anything else.
i used to be nrma but they lowered my car value every year and put the premium up every year

for greenslips i just use the MAA calculator

Ok those are very cheap insurance premiums. I was paying $190 for third party insurance some 17 years ago with AAMI for my XW fairmont and its factory stock all the way....My EB fairmont which i recently sold was at $540 with $550 access for third party insurance with RACV...Im beginning to really dislike living in Victoria now...Looking at OP is in western australia.

I found RACQ cheaper for the Fiesta and AAMI for the BF Mk2 Ghia...AAMI couldn't match RACQ. All are agreed value policies....

I' had everything insured with Shannons (2 WRXs and house and contents) but for the XR50 they were ridicously expensive. Quoted me $950 whereas it only costs me $500 with RACQ.

Yes, always shop around.

I even re-quoted my own renewals and my NRMA renewal for CTP was around $100 MORE than what the online calculator told me. All details being identical.

Quoting full comprehensive on the Focus... prices ranged from around $1300 to $700. Now that's a HUGE difference.

And with competition being so strong, you can use the cheaper mobs to help twist the arm of your preferred insurer to lower prices, if not price match.

I had the same problem with Youi. You have to give them all your personal information up front before they'll tell you anything.

I asked what happens to my details if I don't go ahead, they said that I have to formally contact them with a request to delete data concerning myself.

I would not touch Youi with a 100 foot pole. With the price they charge and the quotes you can get elsewhere and their cash back deal I'm surprised they havent gone out of business

When I was quoting with Youi (I think?) online for full comp on the Focus the final page was a 'Thank you, a rep will be in contact to proceed' or words to that effect.

Never got a call.

I was quoting a house with them a few years ago and of course early into the quote they ask what material it's made from. I selected Fibro.

Finish the quote process, then get a msg at the end that they won't insure a house made from asbestos. Why they didn't stop the quote after I chose Fibro is beyond me...

They did call a few days later for feedback on my quote and the guy agreed that the system needed a bit of tweeking after I explained what happened..

Sorry guys I should have mentioned those prices that were wquoted to me was a yearly price. So it would be about $20/month.

A tip also which I should have done is do the quote over the phone and go through it all with him/her and ask all the questions and get the cost. Then end the phone call and do exactly the same thing online with them and you get a discount for doing it online.

Yes Just Cars were the best also for customer service over the phone also.

Also made me annoyed when you fill out pages and pages of questions then at the end it says 'Cannot proceed with your quote due to modifications to suspension, motor & wheels' Again, why can't they terminate the quote once you click on modifications!? Could have saved me 5 minutes of answering every answer. So I know how you feel Yellow_Festiva.

Interesting to hear about others experience with Youi.
When i was on the phone to them I felt like I was on an APIA advert. The guy on the phone was overly cheerful and I swear he quickly google mapped my address so he could talk about my local district.

I found youi ridiculous. I had a BA Futura at the time and was lucky to rack up 8000km a year. Car always parked in locked up areas and all the rest of it. The quote if I recall correct was close to $2000. Their ads are very deceiving I think. Racv insured the car for $800 full comp, agreed value and all. At this point I was 25 so also recieved reduced premiums and all the rest of it. AAMI I have had quite a few terrible experiences and found their customer service poor. But this could just be I was unlucky in who I was dealing with.

I have a couple policies with Youi, and for my house and contents they were much cheaper than anyone else! Our Jeep is on par with all others, about 500 full comp cover and insured for $59,000. But my Super Pursuit quote with youi was ridiculous! $2800, they told me that that is because its classed as "high risk". they say they can do cheap for low risk, but hike the high risk policies, regardless of car, house etc...
AAMI covers the SP full comp cover for $650 And agreed value of $29000.

Shop around guys and do your homework. Be clear concise write down everything and read the PDS cover to cover and ask for extras. Just recently changed from Shannon's after 25+years having owned many classic cars all insured with them. First claim in my motoring history about 3 months ago for a lousy replacement of a wheel on my GTO that was damaged and to put it bluntly the whole process ended with me cancelling my policies and moving to another insurer and a very sour taste in my mouth. The assessors was the right royal pain in the a** when it was time for a claim and if you guys think that all the hype of knowing about classic cars sets them apart for the herd. Think again. They really couldn't give a rats if it saves them a dollar and when i rang head office to complain guess what no option for review it's the assessors call. the decision was made on the basis of a photo i took of the damage with my iphone and emailed to melbourne. When I persisted with SGIC they not only where cheaper but offered the exact same benefits as Shannon's. Customer service also non existent. Not a call no questions as to why I was pulling out and cancelling after being a good customer for such a long period. Nowadays when the ads come on it gives me a chuckle and sees me reaching for the remote.

1600$ for full comprehensive for 12 months through SGIC. Cheapest for me being under 25. Father thought it would be interesting to call YOUI (who they are insured through) and see how much it would cost them to insure my car, through them. They came back with 2500$!!!!!!!!!!! That's not even the most expensive I have had quoted. Autobarn Insurance (whoever they are through), were over 3k and were a lot of other well known insurers.

I found that very frustrating too. Coles ins does that in some cases only they ask you to ring them and then they say why.
Last year Coles started a campain to get more custom. Ads saying new customers ring with quote and they will beat. Only problem was when I rang to cancell my policy they asked why, too dear for my new car I said, oh ok was the reply and that was it, no trying to come close no nothing. wtf?

That sounds like Youi. My experience was completely opposite. I got the same message at the end, so I closed down my browser to start some work. I had just closed it down when I got a call on my mobile.

So, for me at least, the customer service was fantastic. Pity there premium wasn't. I'm hunting around for insurance for my Focus ST at the moment, and they wanted around the $1200 mark. Budget Direct only want $600 with comparable features.

I certainly know who I won't be going with.

Tell you what.. you know who are really efficient with their phone calls?? Budget Direct.

I have been toying with buying a replacement eco-hack and use their quote system to sus out insurance. Get the price, close the window and within 30 min the phone is ringing asking if they can help me in any way regarding the quote / price etc. Has happened several times now.

I tried an online quote with Youi last year - filled out all the questions and got to the end where it then said I was a "preferred customer" and someone would call me. At this point they lost me as I can get online quotes from other insurers online and right away. They did call me back and asked me all the same questions I already filled out! But the quote was $300 more than the insurer I chose, which was about 35% more expensive and I let them know it. I previously gave them a shot on my old EL XR6 and their quote was $1800 vs ~$1050 with Shannons.

I drive lower than average kms, have Rating 1 and am over 35, suburb would be a negative though. But really, I'm a customer they should be scrambling to get and price accordingly as I've been insured almost 19 years and never claimed.

ITS MY LITTLE QUOTE!

MY LITTLE RED QUOTE!

I'm insured with JustCar Insurance too:

Fiesta was insured with AAMI for $2500/year when I first bought it in 2009.

Was $2200 with the Focus when I was insured with AAMI in 2011, totalled it a few weeks later and had a massive fight with the insurance company because I organised my own car with the same colour and options through the same dealership and salesman after contacting the people dealing with my claim and talking to multiple people, but they still insisted on ordering another car through another dealership, which became their problem.

The new Focus was insured with JCI for $1800/year, which has now come down to $1600/year with $1100 excess I think, 1 not at fault accident in the last 3 years.

Falcon is with JCI for $300 a year or something 3rd party/fire theft.

GMC Sierra currently un insured because I'm not driving it, will ring up JCI, but I'm guessing V8, under 25, American Import, evently billion dollars/year with $3,000,000 excess.

What postcode you in so i can check this out and cry?

I only pay $10.33 per month, $123.97 pa for full comp ins to the NRMA to insure my old 4WD Rodeo ute for $1900, cheaper than 3rd party prop. they charge me $685 pa to insure my 2007 AWD SY Ghia.

I find them very cheap because I have all my insurance with them, I have about 12 different policies, never had an at fault accident and insured with them for 37 years, so I get every discount going. My postcode is 2787

But if you are under 25 and trying to insure your first car they charge like wounded bulls, as my Son found out recently

another one with shannons for the ute, house and now the missus new car.

$60 ish a month with agreed value of $20k on the ute... very happy with that!

missus was with budget direct until her first accident. the process was easy and straightforward so she wanted to stay with them on the new car. We confirmed with them prior to buying the car regarding costs etc but we didnt have a date for collecting the car from the dealer. When the dealer called to say she could have the car the next day, we called budget to activate the quote and they turned round and declined her! couldnt believe it! I went nuts at them, hung up and phoned shannons... very helpfull, matched her quote from budget ( red p plater, 1 fault accident resulting in total write off and under 25... a great combo! ) and called her after work to finalise everything.
