:( Someone Keyed my car...

Hi Guys,

just woke up today to find my car keyed. I'm trolling through hours (3 days worth) of camera footage to see if I can catch the person who did it (cameras in the apartment block cover my car). Real Dog Act.

Do you guys reckon its going to cost a lot to fix? There are two lines, one on the top and another below. Would have taken a bit of time for them to do it so I hope they will appear on the video.

Why do people do this to other peoples cars?! I guess if its expensive, I'll claim through insurance and get the entire side repainted.

hey mate, i had the same thing happen to my old BAXR8. i went through insurance, it doesnt affect no claim discount as it is malicious damage. Had to do a police report and then tell the insurance the report number. Mine cost $3500 to fix as they keyed it so bad they scarred the metal and it had to be bogged. I really do feel your pain mate, i was devastated when it happened to me. Just last week some drunk peed and spat all over the FG Turbo, so glad they didnt key it.

WOW!! $3500!! Glad your car didnt get keyed though spat at and peed on is pretty low. I didnt realise it was as common as its appearing.

The top one is pretty deep and the bottom one is in swirls. Kinda what happens if you're bending and not moving quick enough to draw a straight line.

OP did you see who did it yet?

A mate's VE SS recently got spat all over. Actually took a bit of cleaning to get off.

I also saw a VE SV6 that had been keyed really badly at tent city Bathurst last year.

So it isn't just a Ford thing.

I think that the main reasons cars get keyed is: 1. The owner did something that someone doesn't like and it is 'pay back'. 2. The vandal doesn't like the car/make/model and wants to deface it. 3. The vandal is just looking to vandalise something and the car was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

There's really no excuse for any of it and seeing it really makes me mad. Hope you get it fixed no hassles.

I didnt see who did it but I'm going through the security camera footage in my building. My car is within range of a fixed camera that can show me if someone in my building did it.

The only other time it could have happened was when I was at my niece's 4th birthday on Saturday before I drove home and parked the car (in the dark and couldnt see the doors). If it happened at home, it will be on the footage.

I was thinking about what you said about who would do it but our building is new and I dont know anyone in the building so I can see how I would have annoyed someone already! I'm thinking it was some stupid kids out on the Saturday night when I was at the party in Bella Vista (for those who know Sydney).

Been the biggest fear for me as well. Just remember watching an episode of Law and Order where one guy says he keyed a car. I thought, lucky that hasnt happened to my car. This was in the last 3 days! Little did I know...

I hope you catch them , so many scum bags out there fair dinkum, I just had one car repared because an old fella ran into me while I was stationery :( , 2 days ago someone scraped my limo in a car park and didnt stop, I wasn't quick enough to get their rego :(, it almost seems pointless to try and keep your wheels in good nic, you have my sympathy .
I had 2 panels painted (2 tone)all up about $1400(almost no panel damage, another panel I had touched up while the damage was fixed $400 non metalic paint, hope that helps.

Thanks guys. Will get a quote tomorrow and see what can be done. Going through video is very boring but I want to make sure it wasnt someone in our apartment block. Dont want to live near such people!

Jealousy like some others have said, and also the fact that they get a kick out of it while they're doing it. It's the adrenaline rush.

Then seeing "their work" afterwards till the car owner gets it painted, is like "their work" is out for others to see. SO LAME if you ask me!

Sorry to hear, it's happened to a few us. Don't let it get you down. If it's someone in your building, make sure you're not parking in anyone spot (no excuse anyway). If you find anything on the video, good luck with the police doing anything about it.

Not always. It could be an upset ex (or their new partner), someone you cut off in traffic, someone you jumped the queue in front of at the supermarket... There's a lot of petty reasons people do silly, spiteful things.

The SV6 I saw at Bathurst had 'W A N K E R' keyed into the side of it in letters about 300mm high and a big key stripe down the other side. That's a lot of effort for a random, quick thrill in my opinion.

Looks like it might cost $800 (cash price) from my mate who is a panel beater. My excess is the same so might just pay cash and get it done. Still, $800 that I could have used better but such is life.

I was hoping the camera footage of me entering the building would show the scratch so I'd know if the car was damaged already as I entered. Unfortunately, the video reflects light exactly where the scratch is! :( so I have to continue checking the rest of the video.

Thanks for the well wishes. It is really sad and its really a dog act. I want to get a camera just for my car now to keep an eye on things. Dont think I'll take it out anywhere anymore and will just use the G6E

I have an office there and some times i work late on fridays and saturdays and leave the balcony door open. Most nights i hear dick heads. there are two types. Drunk vandals coming back from the pub or teenagers out for mischief (mainly from the other side of windsor rd).

I let my dog chase the drunks if they are being destructive (big ridgeback rottie x) and I deal with the teenagers myself - they are becoming less frequent now.

now its just the idots that drive in to have frango chicken - but the cops seem to be hanging out a bit more around there.
