Who's Failed their first driving test???

My little brother just messaged me and told me he failed his driving test.

There was nothing I could say to soften the blow. I had the same devastation when I sat mine.

Yes, I did fail my first attempt:

- Stalled it as soon as I was about to take off from the Licensing centre
- Revving motor while clutch is engaged
- Clutch in when going around a corner
- Didn't indicate while leaving a round a bout.

Equalled 9 points - Massive Failure.

Who else has failed their first test so I can soften his harsh blow???

Hit a traffic island = EPIC FAIL

Also, the instructor had to pull on the handbrake at one stage, not sure why...maybe he just wanted to do some powerslides

The RTA fails Males on their first attempt routinely.

I was one of those who was failed for a) being Male, and b) not indicating when crossing a broken white line.

Nah passed the first time. As easy as I found it to get the first time, it was even easier to lose it! :(

i had to turn on the aircon and put it on fresh air because he stunk like cigarettes and b.o, and he instantly failed me for dangerous driving or some crap because i wasnt concentrating on the road. this guy was a pr!c. went back next day got 100%.

and i just have to share this with you guys but i just worked out that my 17th is on a saturday, meaning i have to wait two extra days till the monday ti get my p's. devo :(

Passed mine first go. The instructor was good and laid back. Wound down his window and had his arm hanging out. Let me off for minor things like not looking enough approaching a railway crossing. Test only took me like 5 minutes.

One of my cousins failed a heap of times over like 5 years or more and eventually passed. Just stick to it and dont give up i geuss.

The w4nker failed me because i asked if it was ok to adjust my seat (when we were parked on the side of the road after i did a parallell park test).

I was automatically failed because i 'should have had the seat positioned in a comfortable position before departing'

failed once, apparantly i almost ran a pedestrian over crossing the lights, (driving the xa), i never seen him/her was behind a pole, instructor was going off..young and dumb

Failed for not performing a U-turn properly. He made me do one at a T-intersection in a back street, so I just swung it around, he hit the brakes, so I stalled facing oncoming traffic and told me then that Id failed.

failed twice, once for supposedly speeding in a school zone, was a few minutes before 2.30 or whenever it used to go donw to 40, and had seom pull out in front of me so had to go over unbroken white lines

Got it first time, worked out well it was 2 days after the AFL Grand Final (VFL back in those days) my instructor and tester were having a great time talking about the game, I don't think the tester was concentrating cause Im positive to this day 22 years on I went over double white lines, instant fail

June 1982. Failed by driving through a non existent Stop Sign. The intersection was torn up and was getting traffic lights and at the time was controlled by stop/go paddles. I was the second car from the stop paddle and was waved through when the paddle changed. When we got back to the traffic branch, the examiner said, "Sorry mate, you just failed..."

He then told me the news. The instructor was pretty ****ed as I was pretty devastated. A very heated argument took place and we all bundled back in the car to the intersection to see the “stop sign”. Sure enough there it was, laying on the ground, upside down. And the intersection was still controlled by men with Paddles!

Miserable Pommy told us that the examination book said a stop sign and that was all there was about it.

At that stage it took about 2 months to book in for a test, but that night I got a call from the instructor to say that we’d been slotted in next week.

The next examiner was considered to be the toughest one there and he’d be right on to any mistake I made I was told. (Talk about scaring the crap out of a poor 18 year old!) On the appointed day, he hopped in the back and told me to drive into town any way I liked, which I did with all the skill and care I could muster. As we drove in, he told me to drive up Ryrie Street (In Geelong), and then as we approached a bank, he said, “Quick, take that car park!”

I was able to drive in to the angled car park with out making it look like a desperate act. He jumped out and went in to the bank, returning after a few tense minutes and told me to drive back to the branch. On arriving he told me that I’d passed and only lost 3 points for not spotting the car park before he did! He also said that I was stiff for failing the first time and the previous examiner had been reprimanded by his boss, who it turned out was him...

its funny you mention that, was told the same thing. 1st time i failed, reason? too confident. 2nd time passed and drove worse (nervous!) despite someone pulling out in front of me and 2 seconds of tailgating lol

passed first go, the only thing the driver commented on was i swung out a bit wide while turning left into a street - Did it at Hornsby RTA in Sydney.

Best advice is to drive around the streets near the RTA's where you think you'll be tested in. Does wonders

Passed first time, clean sheet. My instructer jumped in the car, reclined his seat a bit and threw the clip board onto the dash and said 'on with it'. He didn't touch the clip board until we got back.

he asked me how I did when I got back and I replied, "oh, it was good for a pass." And he came back with, "yeah, I think so." And that was that.

Failed my learner test 4 times before I read the damn book haha.

Got my first licence in NZ when I was 15 years old, some 27 years ago.

Back in those days there was no learners, no P Plates, just walk in, fill out a form, answer a few of the most basic questions regarding road rules ever, go for a quick whiz around the block while the MOT Officer has a perve on the ladies about town and that's it!

Wait around for 10 mins while they bang up a Full Open Drivers Licence at the mere age of 15 and off you go, out on the open road with little to no experience at all.

Bear in mind too in those days there was no points deduction on your licence, no speed cameras, no red light cameras, when I think back now they were pretty dangerous days really, 15 was way too young to hold a drivers licence, I used to collect speeding tickets like confetti, just used throw them in the glovebox with all the others and get around to paying them when the final demand came in the post.

Glad they've changed things since those crazy days!

I never had a single lesson and failed on the first time for clutch coasting.

Passed my Driving test (P's) first time round, with no hassles at all.

But I did fail the L's computer test the first time though :-|

Failed first time. Overconfident apparently. Examiner told me to a U Turn at traffic lights which I did. Then he told me it was illegal and failed. Had a massive argument with the guy and told him to go #&^% himself.

Resat the test two weeks later and passed without any issues.

Passed first time.
Lost only 1 point. Could have lost more. The first turn out of Lakeside Drive, I wasn't far from the island. I never got a good feel of the Pulsar. I hated it.
The actual point loss was due to getting too close to a car parked in a street on my left. There was also a car on my right, so they deemed I got too close to the car on my left.

Besides that, went fine. I just used my mirrors constantly (or at least gave the impression I was), as my driving instructor said that the Vicroads people find that sort of behaviour/symbolism extremely exciting.

Took me three goes.

1st time was because I got stuck behind a broken down truck on a hill and the instructor "intervened" to get me out of the situation. Intervene = fail, there was also the running a yellow but I reckon I would've passed if I didn't get stuck behind the truck.

2nd time was nervous as eff, mounted the kerb trying to do a 3 point turn. Fail.

3rd time was make or break for me, almost got done speeding in a back road (62 in a 60 zone at the time), but backed off and he passed me.
