I think they are having a subtle swipe at the large young demographic who hold one of the Falcon's competitors on a pedestal.

i.e "Bogans turn red as lion is slayed"
or "Young hooligans who think the Commodore is the worlds best car must eat humble pie after finding oout its not even Australia's best."
or
"Josh Dowling on suicide watch, VE fails to make t to Best cars finals"

Surprised you don't see that as a compliment.

To me, it suggests that the hoon vehicle of choice if the Commodore. Would appear to me that Ford marketing is working.

I see it the same way as vanman. It is meant to be degrading to the falcon/falcon drivers.

I saw it and my immediate thought was " another piece of journalistic crap to denegrate Falcons in a concerted media effort to send Ford Australia to the wall like they did with the 380".

Didn't TGA prove this wrong? When the Omega stalled when 'hooning' and the XT didnt?

The way I have percieved it, is that hoon aren't allowed to drive 'Family car of the year'.

Take that Holden, now you get all the hoons that have been banished from the ranks of the Ford Falcon!

Can someone explain to the less mechanically minded such as myself how it is possible to actually stall an auto? (slightly off topic)

Oh you can stall them alright - i've heard a few stories of it and strangely enough (not a word of a lie here) they were all commodores. Honestly.

Baring mechanical problems with the engine itself (poor idle etc.) i thin the two most common reasons are;

-lack of torque converter unlock. autos lock-up to save fuel (usually in higher gears, but modern ones do it at lower speeds/gears too) and if they don't unlock again due to failure or stupid auto programming they force the engine to run the rear wheels at all times - like a manual with the clutch out. This obviously stalls the engine when at a standstill.

- Electronic interventions (most likely here), where the esp or traction control retard spark during certain monouvers, and/or controls auto gear selection. The car can become 'confused' when doing handbreak turns etc. and retard spark/fuel at a bad time and it will stall the engine.

This sort of problem happens to many manufacturers (Fifth gear had problems handbrake turning a new mitsu evo recently) but usually the won't stall because they are programmed properly to realise what is happening, and simply unlock the converter/engage clutch automatically (for DGS transmissions) and go into 'neutral' effectively.

It would appear that Holden has not done this properly and/or the car has mechanical issues. I woudl say that useless 4sp auto is too dumb to have th enecessary computer power to tune these things.

Oh and i don't really get the point of this 'blow to hoons' either. Maybe it is about commodores being bought by hoons or is just insulting the base aussie six (clearly frome someone who has never driven one - they would make a great hooning car LOL!)

The XF had a period where it stalled a lot. THe engine wasn't in the best nick, and I wouldn't rave about the 3-speed auto either.

Ultra Tune did not help with anything, so we went to our Mobil Car Care, and to this day, they have never let us down.

My sister stalled our Auto AU2 Falcon when she was a learner. Hit a kerb (more-so nudge it very gentley) and the car stalled.

Also on the skid pan at the Holden performance centre, a mate from school spun the car and it started going backwards while still in drive and the car stalled.

I don't how the mechanics behind these two incidents, maybe someone could elaborate.

This one sounds like steering pump issue to me (wild guess so don't hold me to it). With falcons (i find EF-AU) the steering pump can take a fair bit of power from the engine and at full lock under some circumstances the car can almost stall when idling (in Drive). your sister might have had lock on when it hit the curb, the pump fought against it and the combination of no throttle ( i assume), the curb and steering pump stalled the engine.

Well if you have the car going in the wrong direction at enough pace the torque converter will provide sufficient resistance to stall the engine. If you try putting your car into reverse when still rolling lightly forward in a car park you can feel the resitance. (or vice-versa). If you are moving very quickly the wrong way i suppose it would stall (once again, most modern cars realise all this and go into neutral to overule you).

I think with the Commodore on TGA it is a case of not allowing any throttle when the handbrake is engaged, a calibration issue (& anti-hoon feature)
