At least they have bought figures back over 3000 for the Falcon. They can't let it drop below that. With a bit of work in the sales and marketing department there's no reason why they can't bring it up into the 3500-4000 range. Thats where it should be.
Cops are buying heaps of turbos for chase duties now, V8's seem to be on the nose for them and they are becoming hard to move at auction once they have finished with them. |

Ford's the only brand there to show growth, a modest but good result against a tought downward market trend.
Does anyone know if Holden Wagon sales are included as part of commodore sales??

yes the are. July 2008 was the first full month of wagon sales which was apparently worth about 1000 units which bought total Commodore sales of that month upto 4906, up from 4274 in June. So after that initial burst I'd guess they sold about 800ish wagons in sept? Which leaves about 3600 Commodore sedans vs 3100 Falcon sedans. (although what of the Falcon wagon? is that included in the Falcon figure? I'd say yes, but surely they would only be moving a couple of these a month) Anyway, the Falcon vs Commodore gap doesn't seem so large when you look at it like that. Although it is cheating, the Commodore wagon is still a Commodore afterall... I dont think Falcon sales will ever get near Commodore again, but if Ford can lift Falcon sales by a few hundred per month, plus more Territory sales, then Fords local manufacturing should be holding its own. |

oh, and not to be negative, but those figures dont show growth, they just show a better September in 2008 than in 2007. I'd like to see the year to date figures for 08 and 07 compared the same way.

Given the general market trend, I see it as a very positive result.
There are always some determined to see the downsides. |

Thanks Russ
Also this is a good result for Ford imo, given the state of the market. |

3964 Corolla's vs 1165 for Focus : .
I can understand the over 3000 Mazda 3's, they are a top car, but the Corolla, isn't about time the Corolla myth was destroyed, we need an ACA or Today Tonight story about exploding Corolla's : . Rest of the figures about spot on, Fiesta is no old, as is Territory. Just wish Falcon and Mondeo was a few hundred higher. Ranger is still tops.

Just by way of comparison - if we look at the model trend data within segment (shown in our data set) and then compare that for Holden we get a pair of charts like these:

Attention Ford:
Your marketing department is sh!t. Fire them all and rehire, or poach Holden's. This has been the general consensus here for about 5 years. When will they learn ? |

According to the FCAI, Holden sold 1448 Sportwagons in Sept! And this is without an LPG model which Holden will be bringing out in the future. It has been an excellent strategy releasing this wagon a couple of years after the sedan as the guys on leases can get a fresh new bodystyle without going to a Falcon. Now the humble station wagon is outselling a locally made SUV as well as the utes. Falcon seems to be doing well considering the market, just compare it to the Aurion. |

1448 wagons! Wow, that 800 figure of mine was just a guess, way off the mark it would seem. They are a damn good looking wagon....

The Corolla is selling based on it's reputation and fleets. It won't be long until the others such as the Mazda 3 which are far better to catch up. |

Auto headlights, HIDs, rain sensing wipers, 6 sp manual, smart key entry/keyless start, 7 air bags. There may be some things the Focus has on the Corolla, but those things I've listed would be pretty important to any new car buyer. |

Look the Corolla does it's job fine and has been doing it for a long time. This is what I am getting at, it has a reputation of doing that and is a default option for most people. As soon as the others (Focus and 3) get such a repuation here they'll start selling just as well, ok the 3 is already. |
