Ford Motor Co.
24/7 Wall St.'s Take on FORD Ford has a market cap of $13 billion against annual sales of $173 billion. If sales fall further, cuts won't make up the difference forever. The Ford family, which has de facto control of the company, will have to look at selling the car operations to a large Asian or European auto company. That would allow for a consolidation of production, marketing and R&D. Bottom line -- billions of dollars in annual savings.

If that were to happen, I'd jump on the Holden bandwagon. (If they start the mass import of asian models em too I'm gonna be all over Euro)

I doubt the Japanese could get any synergy or economies from scale from buying Ford anyway - there would be little point.

Interesting fact, Toyota has enough is cash reserves to buy GM and Ford.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it. In my view Ford & GM are both going down the s!htter if they dont consolidate and merge with each other or another company (or get bought out). |

I've owned as many new Toyotas as new Fords, and I must say that Toyota's finish, quality, and service leaves Ford in the dust. When did you buy your last new Toyota? I can't see it happening, but if it did, it's not necessarily a bad thing. |

If it had to happen, I'd rather them than someone like Tata.

The US government props them up, more than our government props up our carmakers here.
It can't go on forever, I doubt that anyone would want to buy either of them, unless they were cheap, ie: no goodwill. Hopefully if it did, to either ford or holden, quality would go up, especially for Ford, as they don't honour their warranty anyways!

They might buy a stake in the company, but the US government and the auto unions won't allow it to happen. For whoever is in the whitehouse at the time, it would be political suicide to allow it to happen to one of the USA's biggest auto manufacturers. If controlling interest went offshore there are far too many jobs and votes in the balance. This is speculative in nature I know, but seconded by some analysts in the know.

One of my bosses has a work Camry that isn't waterproof ie. when it rains you get water inside the cabin somehow. Toyotas aren't built any better than any other car. If I had to buy a Japanese car it would be a Mazda as at least they make exciting products. If Toyota bought Ford it would be a . They would end production of anything not highly profitable and more complex to manufacture ie. No Mustang, No Rear Wheel Drive Platform, No Hurricane V8. If you want to see the Falcon based on a Mondeo and mass-produced in China than by all means celebrate a Toyota takeover. |

Well if Ford was bought out by Toyota, imagine all the Toyota Camry owners getting upset when they were called "bogans". ;)
