Can anyone shed some light on the rumour that V8 Capris will no longer be eligible for engineers from now on?? I heard that you wont be allowed under new laws in NSW.
Does it affect Melbourne owners? Was just about to get stuck into one. |

Their reasoning?
How do they justify/explain it in this new law – cars built over 30 years ago aren’t eligible for engine swaps or something? Is this is part of the Vehicle Standards Bulletin 14 National code of practice for light vehicle construction and modification ? As well as a lot of other clauses there is this for replacement naturally aspirated engines: Cars under 800 kg are only allowed a capacity (cubic centimeters) of weight (kg) x 3 Cars between 800 kg and 1100 kg are only allowed a capacity (cubic centimeters) of weight (kg) x 4 Cars over 1100 kg are only allowed a capacity (cubic centimeters) of weight (kg) x 5 So a 1000kg car is only allowed 4000cc If you wanted to put a small Windsor 260 Cid (4260ish cc) the car would have to weigh over 853kg. I can see you having problems with a 302 or 351 but a tiny engine should be OK. This is part of the Standards Bulletin released in Feb 2006 or have they revised it again?

Time to go the turbo route instead..
What i dont get is, how is it more dangerous to have a V8 corty/capri in 2008 than say, 1999? With the government saying the roads have never been better etc... If they had it their way, the only mods we could do is headlight protectors on our Prius.

hmm...... havent i had a discussion with you re: legalities before eh kyro?QUOTE] yup an atleast i can admit that not one day goes by when i get in a car, i'm doing something I shouldn't have. even now that i am 0 points for 12 months. i shouldn't be driving my mates unroadworthy car, but I do. whoopty do, throw me in jail n throw away the keys lol... 90% of cars on this forum are probably not stock! book em! lol edit: btw, i didn't condone careless driving in my first post, just having an un engineered car, doesn't make you a hoon? the state governments are stupid, but not that stupid!! edit: when you were referring you a previous discussion on legalities? I love spools an always will! Last edited by kyro_02; 08-01-2008 at 10:41 PM. |

You see, it is people like you, who end up killing someone in a poorly engineered vehicle that lead to further restrictions on those who wish to do it the right way. Heaven protect us from the lunacy of individuals like yourself - thankfully we have a legal system that will provide you with sufficient time to consider the error of your ways should you end up taking another life by your irresponsibility. I am going to breach the forum rules I set here in telling you that you you are the worst example of an arrogant fool I have seen on these forums and that is saying something. Russ

I can't see why V8 capris should be unable to be done any more considering the V8 was an option in Sth Africa.
XK-XP's should be ok as the V8 is a standard option in US models, shouldn't really require engineers technically as long as the rest of the car is optioned up. |

problems arise where there are differences with the bodies, like big block mustangs have a reinforcing plate around the bottom of the shock tower, 6 cyl/V8's dont, and its fair to say there would be differences between overseas and locally sourced bodies, hence the need for engineers certification, brakes, suspension, etc are also vital things that need to be looked at [QUOTE=russellw] Quote:
