Any thoughts on what you personally/professionally use ?

Brief......

suitable for trimming red gums upto 200mm thick limbs.

no battery power.

something that is definitely NOT "Made in China"

4 stroke ?????? Do they make 4 stroke ones. ?

Used other people's saws before and can maintain it myself, just would like to own one now.
Don’t know what they are like now,but I had 50cc Japanese made Echo a few years ago,was a good saw until some A.H reckoned he had more right to it than I had

I note there is a saw called Bruin, brune, Bruines (spelling)???
German sounding name.

Never heard of them, no doubt made from Chisnesm.

New heard of them, sorry.

I would liken this to the Toyota concept, as in parts and service backup all over the country. Buying a Stihl would be similar.

When I had the old 1986 028 AV Super refurbished, they used genuine Stihl parts. I wouldn't be sure of that being the case 10 years down the track on the Chinese copy chainsaws that are flooding the market, they will be throw away items.

Is this the brand?

A 62cc saw for $359 ($139 on sale) says Chinese to me.

Yes honestly it will between Stihl and Husky, lucky to have 2 Stihl and 2 Husky dealers locally
And as you say both are trusted brands with the distributors.

Correct.

Similar concept with Holzfforma, a Stihl MS 660 knockoff painted blue instead of orange but with a German sounding brand name.

Default Re: Mowing ..

Stampy (Paul) - who I don’t think is presently on this forum but gets around - told me a decade back that the (then) Makita chainsaws were actually from the Dolmar factory in Hungary and pretty good for the bucks. He reckoned the Baumr-AG saws were only fit for doorstops.

I think the biggest asset of Stihl is access to genuine and aftermarket wear parts (eg starter dogs, clutch shoes, the pressed metal oil deflector plate on the outside of the bar where it clamps) at great prices, it’s where you sometimes get caught on a Mac or similar.

I managed to track down a set NOS Rover handle knobs for the Rover, which is probably where I will leave it, although the catcher needs a repair to the ventilation mesh.

But I'm now thinking its time to do something with this one...............

I'm not entirely sure what I want to do with it. As you can see, its got a few cosmetic blemishes.

I don't know if I should go all out, repainting the alloy chassis and plastics, re-chroming the handle, replacing the decals, find some matching wheels, repaint the engine cowling and muffler.

Or just do the mechanicals, such as a replacement spark plug boot, a new primer bulb, and a decent clean up. It ran when it was put away, but it felt a touch like it had some rod knock. They all did that anyway.

Thoughts?

Not sure I would say that I collect mowers, I just enjoying using different mowers on different jobs.

Say I have a large area to mow, I'm grabbing the Rover ProCut or Bushranger. Perhaps I just need to slash down some grass, then the MasterCut Utility gets the gig. The Mulchmaster saves me time during the summer on regular cuts, the Mustang 750iS is great for winter mowing as its nice and light.

A couple have sentimental value, most are workhorses, some I have just because. At least I can write all this off as a business expense.......................can't say that about all hobbies/collections.

That's a big beef I have with those who choose to make Youtube videos expecting to make money out of it. I'm sorry, unless you are making quality content, as in shot in focus with a microphone so I can hear you, you have no right to ask me to like and subscribe.

Technically, you should refrain from mowing if it's been raining a lot or if the grass is wet. Sometimes, the show must go on though.

For wet grass, you want a full width discharge chute, and avoid cutting to low. Both aspects compensate for the heavier grass in this state, helping to prevent clogging.

I also try to use the lightest mower in the fleet to help minimise making tracks.

And you would probably avoid mulching as this will make for a messy finish.

It just depends how picky the customer is, if they are, then skip it, if not, plough thru and make a mess. I did one on the side of a mountain yesterday, wet as a shag, but needed the autumn leaves picked up, so tried not to churn it up too much with the bushranger.

You would think so wouldn't you.

There is virtually no parts supply for Rover now, most retailers have abandoned the brand now that everything is Chinese crap.
