Price hike for 2024 spec Ranger -

https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...rice-and-specs

Prices up between $200 out to $1200 on V6 models. Keep squeezing Ford, more money to be had.

I saw a white Tundra in St Ives today - looked new or newish. Black letters on tailgate, thin sequential LED blinker strip above number plate recess.

Didn’t realise there were any here.

They're around just converted and complied by other cowboys rather than the official partnership between Toyota and HSV.

The same as you can get RAMs from places like SCD American Vehicles

Been camping at Uluru and Kings Canyon over the last week. Wandering around the camp grounds, which are full, there aren't many hiluxes being used for towing. Rangers probably go close to outnumbering landcruiser. Obviously a tiny snapshot but not sure the price is bothering too many at the moment.

Ranger was already one of the best tow vehicles. Now with more power and torque it's easy to see why its so popular in this arena.

From my observation of doing a lot of towing around Australia in the last 12 years, hilux's have always been in the minority group with vans, the rangers popularity increases each year and will continue to do so with their reputation.

I'm adamant that the Hilux is the rental and fleet queen, where as the Ranger is very popular amongst private buyers.

Curious as to the breakdown between the 4x2 and 4x4 Hilux sales figures like we get every month with the Ford figures.

New Triton

https://www.goauto.com.au/news/mitsu...-26/91527.html

It’s a good looking ute. Hopefully it’s as reliable as the current model. I never understood the hate Triton gets. Until they started charging near Ranger money it was a brilliant ute for the price.

I thought they might have cranked a bit more than 470nm out of the new Triton? .....brand new and it can't match the opposition

If it’s a fair bit lighter I wouldn’t think 30nm would be noticeable?

Maybe....I just thought after 9 years development and adding a turbo they might have come up with more than 40nm ?

There's always been a lot to be gained with a custom tune on Tritons maybe the new one has a similar protection built into the factory tune

Sounds like the bodies lighter but the high tensile chassis is heavier , one media fella said it was no more than 100kg heavier than the old model ....so not too bad considering it's quite a bit bigger

Im going to be in the minority and say I actually dont mind how it looks... I hate how the current "Storm Trooper" one looks though. If Mitsi prices it correctly it may do well...

New engine's figures aren't ground braking but 150kw and 470NM isnt terrible... Bi Turbo Ranger is 154kw and 500nm so your not talking massive difference.... Twin Turbo and 6 speed auto may make it closer still, weight may also make a difference. Be interested to see some local tests....

Can't be that subjective on this one, because I agree with you completely.

Might go call my mate Satan and see how chilly it is down there in hell at the moment

However, this has peaked my interest:

Quote:
All engines are available with six-speed automatic and manual transmissions, the latter uniquely with shift-by-wire technology to “significantly reduce vibration” from being directly transmitted to the cabin.
Shift by wire - how the hell does this work, the gear lever isn't directly connected to the engine and a bunch of solenoids shuffle the internals around?

I wonder what the 'shift feel' would be like on that, I'm picturing Daytona USA arcade machine.

Anyway, I would like to congratulate Mitsubishi for releasing a Triton which exceeds the 2011 PX Ranger by 3KW in the power department - welcome to the 2010s.

Maybe by 2033 they'll be able to match the current generation Ranger

A lot will depend on the torque curve and the gearing.

You say it's not far off the bi-turbo ranger, but for context, territory diesel is 140kw and 440nm. 10kw and 30nm isn't much so you'd want to hope it's geared better.

The torque curve is steeper than territory at least.

Now come on, be nice. Thermo King bought at a price. The supplier had a hell of a lot of leftovers, and Mitsubishi grabbed them from the trailer before it hit the recycle plant.

Though I cracked a smile where they talk about power and torque figures - the 2.8L Hilux 4 cylinder has more torque and power than the 4.5L V8, and an extra gear
