I was obsessed with these when they came out, I think I was 12 and the old man worked at Holden.
Can remember wheels or motor did a comparison with the Jag XJR.

FTE - Just as a quick aside, how has your brother found the ownership experience of the S-Type? These have always piqued my interest, but I've always admired them from afar and never been quite game to take one on.

I like WH Statto/Caprice/Grange - they're way bigger than the VR/VS models.

4990mm long and 1794mm wide for VR/VS
5170mm long and 1847mm wide for WH

Doesn't have the Serena Williams bum look that the VT/VX Commodore has.

You can notice the extra length and width in the back seats, my aunty had a WH Statesman w/LS1 as her daily, fit me and my cousins in the back no dramas

Meh, was rectified in a recall and then had Ford on the ropes for nearly 15 years until the Miami came about, and even then they come out with the LSA to counter.

What was Ford's response, the 5.4L 3V and 4V boat anchors? They're the Alloytec of the Ford world

Yeah, it may have been in that comparo with the Jaguar, wheels declared the WH had more rear leg room than any other car on the market.
In my final year at school i was a car groomer at one of the Holden dealers. Moved a lot of LS1 powered VT and VXs around the yard, and I think more suffered piston slap than Holden claimed. A lot of them were knocking/ticking when cold.

It took until VY to get it sorted where they used a different block and some other internal changes I believe.

I had a mate with a statesman back then used to crap on about how much better his ls was than my windsor. Poor bloke didn't know his crappy motor sounded like a diesel it was slappin harder than will smith.

I'm specifically talking about V8s, but yes I'm quite aware about the XR6T and the F6

This only got to 15k last night. I know of two manuals that sold for 35k and 33k respectively with 100km on them mid covid. Granted this one doesn't look perfect, but shows the current market.

My bro wants to buy a manual 2013 fg xr6 na ute . dealership asking 26k drive away with 170k ks lol. Reckon same car wouldve been $16,000 at the start of 2020. What you reckon he can get it down to ? From past experience dealers don't drop much holding out for the silly bastard who is in need of a car fast. $26,000 is turbo prices lol

Don't buy a car like that from a dealer is my first advice. Seen a few around 15-18k lately. Dealer won't drop bugger all, they know they can get good money for utes, it's why they priced it high.

Cheapest manual fg xr6 ute with ok kms is $21k on carsales. He wants a manual as hes scared of the zf milkshake and the 5 speed auto is a sh*t box. He is a painter and decorator, I told him to get a van but he loves his utes

sorry for the late response, look I'm with you on the reluctance of owning Any Jag as much as some have great shapes, like a XJS V12 always grabbed my eye but I know what it would do to my pockets.
Moving on STypes arn't much better, what he's had it for over 20yrs now, its in perfect nick looks wise giving it a look over but he's had his issues that I can't recall all but I'll have a chat with him to get a brief and report back.
I know being a 20yr old Jag or about mid/late last year he was chasing a replacement gearbox for eg.....

Possibly as saam mentions the "toys" those with quite a few of them maybe lighting up their load more than those with say 1 or 2.

Talking "volume" typical 2hand popular I still see the market pretty good due to new car waits from 6mths to 18mths depending the brand and price bracket.

I just was hunting for a low k euro not wanting to wait so long for a new one and I couldn't believe my bad luck last Thursday, 2 cars went from under my hunt/watch within an hour or so that morning.
Next day another went before I knew it.
The new car shortage/or more so slow supply sure is keeping the 2nd hand market turning over very well.
Sure pricing isn't to what it was not long out of covid but its still pretty strong with buyers here there and everywhere having had discussions with dealers.

Agree, it's kind of stuck in lala land being a steel bumpered classic but with an unknown/unwanted motor that's only a 4cyl. Shouldn't matter (as it probably still goes like stink) but it does.

Yep, I reckon it's a great thinking outside the box example of an interesting conversion. Except it's going to sound like a wet fart down a digeriedoo.

However you don't get to have interesting outside the box conversion AND high resale value

That car is stuck between two worlds

Millennials would appreciate it for what's under the bonnet but they generally don't value steel bumpers.

Boomers value steel bumpers but the nostalgia has been wiped by the bastardisation under the bonnet, even if it was the original six it would be worth more to them, they're not the one continuous eyebrow shututu brigade.

Personally I disagree, in fact it's a retromod classic I would love to do, having thought about it many times. The XP would not be my personal choice, prefer earlier examples and even better for me would be an early MK 11 Zephyr.
I'm nearly 70 and can only see real benefits of such a conversion.
Steel bumper classic with modern power and economy, drives, stops and handles much better than a V8 conversion, with a very modern 6 speed auto.
As to value, he might be reaching, but doesn't everyone?
And think, FG EcoBoost's wrecks don't grow on trees, it would have cost a lot of $ and time to do and get engineered.
I say, good on him and well done, I hope a few more follow his example.
I reckon it's the way of the future for meeting all emission requirements and having a real classic that performs under the radar (so to speak).
