Nice effort mate and thanks for making the effort to video and post it up. Just curious...what about speedo error though ? (100 k.p.h. on the speedo is usually around 97 k.p.h. on a GPS). You might have already compensated for this by clicking it off at 103 k.p.h. on the speedo ? I can't tell from the video.

I thought about that Rodge, and mine runs about 2kph out. But the Digital readout also runs behind the actual needle.

NSW Police should be in the best position to settle the argument now that a GTS is joining their R Spec.
Both tuned however.

Not sure about the wait list, but at $87000 it'd be worth a look!

Not off topic at all, it actually jumped the HSV off the line & held it for a while before 6.2 litres of sc fun reeled it in.
The hsv is obviously impressive but the star of that show was the 4 cyl Benz imho!!

Looks like the A45 is around 85k drive away and delivery mid next year according to Google... about the same price as a VF Clubsport R8 SV.
Might have to drop in to a merc dealer to see what they say.

Sorry all for OT

Everyone is going on about how fast this HSV is because it's getting in the 12's and as such it's a great fast bit of kit, but they seem to be forgetting that FPV has been in the 12's for a couple years now with its turbo 6 cyl and 5.0lt s/c.

For $30k extra and 1.2lt more capacity one would expect it to be more than just on par with a GT.

Also you lot banging on about all the "strengthened" driveline gear and compononents as if HSV have really gone the mile. Let's not forget that the s/c 5.0lt doesnt have strengthened diff/tailshaft, 5748474 coolers, yet people have been reliably getting 450+ rwkw with an input shaft being the only major weak point.

Exactly and we still don't even know the facts about this car, stock?,owner driver?,or how many kids he had to sell to buy it. And man they look ugly.....looks like a fat bulbous boat goin fast.....certainly no road presence of even the merc beside it either.

How exactly is a stock HSV that runs 12.20 at 117mph not a "fast bit of kit"?

HSV have in fact actually gone the mile if you take a look at the spec sheet, 6.2L supercharged and inter-cooled engine, massive two piece brakes, 10 inch vectoring diff, MRC adj suspension, oil coolers, Bose stereo, great interior all for around 10k more than a GT-P is pretty good value imo.

I'm not specifically talking about the features. Technological features are always part of model cycle evolution, and the FG is a model behind. Performance wise you guys are all acting wowed with your jaws on the floor as if 12 seconds has never been achieved, and thanks to it's coolers and torque vectors, V8 super car brakes and 1.2lt more capacity it's seriously mind blowingly careening down the 1/4 to be no faster than a 70-odd grand GT is capable of. Hell a GS isn't far behind and if you're lucky you can pick one up for half the price.

I agree with what you're saying but I think its a little disingenious to be comparing the retail of one with the retail of the other seeing as anyone ordering a GTS will probably be paying retail or fairly close to retail price whereas it wouldn't be hard to get a huge discount on a MK2 GT-P.

I think you'll find the real price difference to those actually in the market looking at buying one of these two vehicles is more like $25,000- $30,000 and one has a wait list and other doesn't.

The GTS is not selling as well as hoped. The first ones got delivered 2 weeks ago and there are already around 15 on carsales as well as unadvertsied stock at dealers without homes. Guys are already getting low $90k drive away deals for Manuals so mid $90k should see you into a Auto. The wait list is a fantasy as you can get a car tomorrow if your not fussy on colour. I know of 2 different guys who have to wait until the end of the year for cars at close to full retail just because they selected a colour and got caught up in the hype and pre ordered a factory build. Both are slightly annoyed at the prices already being lower but even more annoyed they have to wait for cars to be built that dont have customers waiting on them to roll down the production line first. A good mate who was supposed to have a car 2 weeks ago (he wanted their first GTS) is also still waiting with lousy service from the dealer. Ford guys wanting a GTP should be paying around $20k less and $30 less for a GT.

I don't think anyone was really blown away that it ran a 12.20 its pretty much on par with what HSV stated. Hey its still only early days yet, this is only one example of what the GTS is capable of on the 1/4 mile. There might be quicker times to come, 117mph trap speed is pretty good.

In saying that though there is a lot more to cars than just quarter mile times, you could buy an xr6t for about 40k that wouldn't be much slower in a straight line than all the HSV's and FPV's. Still doesn't mean its a better performance car because its the cheapest though

Im just going by carsales, most new GTP's seem to be around the 85k mark. I think the GTS prices will come down soon enough though once the hype of a new model is gone you might be able to pick one up somewhere in the 80's
