Nah, the wheels on it were the pez spec wheels for the fwd 2.1L.

Doesnt matter either way. The leather on the seats of those cars was ok, the rest was not amicable.
My old man bought his new in 2002. Got a few storys about that car from 2002, even though i got my L plates in 2003 if you get my drift.
When i got my mk2 bf fairmont ghia, well, my dad tried to argue. Thing is though, the fairmont has never gone into limp mode due to they all do that with the rubbish 5 speed auto the x type had.

The VS series II/III cars are the only ones with the lettering on them stating what model it is as well so they're even harder to find.

Also appropriate for this thread. My mum's cousin bought a new V240 when they first came out. Complete with asbestos brake pads, no airbags and rhomboid tray. Quickly sold and replaced with a 10-year-old Mazda Bravo.

When was the last time you spotted a BA Falcon in mint condition?

Today in the carpark, an immaculate early (2003 or so) BA XR6 Sedan in Blueprint. And I mean immaculate, glossy paint with no fade, scuffs, or peeling, the standard 17-inch wheels perfect.

Most NA XR6's have been flogged into the ground as the pass down the economic and age chain, so to see such a lovely example like this is rare. If I wasn't so busy, I would have snapped a pic.

A bloke i know that rides bikes.
He has a MK2 BA XR6 in silver
It is in amazing condition for its age.
Looks after it very well.

I also seen a Congo Green MKI BA fairmont V8 the other day whilst booking my ute in for a service. Apart from a little peel on the wing and bubbled tint, it was very tidy.

The last P76 I saw was back in 2017 in St. Kilda in Melb. I also saw another one about a month before this pic was taken.

“….. the Ford Falcon Olympic Classic which, in Ford’s own words back in the day, “It doesn’t matter how good you are. To make it to Olympic standard you have to have something extra”.

'Extra', in Ford’s case, meant throwing $3000 worth of options at otherwise standard range of EF Falcon GLi and Futura sedans and wagons, adding some Olympic decals and calling it a day.

Those extras included factory-fitted air conditioning (imagine that, air-con as an option as recently as 25 years ago!), 15-inch alloy wheels and “stylish” Olympic Classic decals. To top it off, your special Falcon also came with an “Olympic Classic keyring to set your Falcon apart”.

There’s was no price premium over the regular Falcon GLi and Futura range, which got underway at $29,594 for the manual in GLi trim, so we can only imagine this was a novel way for Ford to shift some leftover stock of the EF Falcon ahead of the facelifted EL model launching later that year.

The tub was out of square from factory.

As for the airbag comment I could be wrong. Maybe it was the Hilux of the time that didn’t have airbags.

Sorry I was wrong - it seems you were right about it not having airbags (I had always thought that the 2008 Holden Rodeo was the last car sold in Aus without airbags).

EFs are somewhat rare but not rare enough. Figures from about 3 years ago said that there were still about 10,000 EF Falcons and Fairmonts still registered in Aus.

Well, its 'cars you don't see many of anymore' and if there's only 10,000 EF's registered nationally, I guess it fits

Not sure if it was discussed in here or I'm getting my wires crossed, but there's a news article on the Ford Laser thats been sitting in the tow-away zone in Coburg for over a decade:

Quote:
Ten years in a tow-away zone: The story of Coburg’s ‘abandoned’ Ford Laser

The first thing they say when you ask about the car is to talk to Frank. There are actually three Franks in this story, but we’ll get to that.

“Why, do you want to buy it?” says the tailor at Oliver Fashion on Sydney Road in Coburg with a knowing smile.

It’s safe to say there are no prospective buyers for the blue 1992 Ford Laser hatchback that has sat in front of a coin laundrette and convenience store in Coburg for at least a decade.

For a start, it’s almost completely rusted through, missing a headlight and covered from bonnet to boot in dents. On the plus side, it does have an automatic transmission, sheepskin car seat covers and a club steering wheel lock.

The car has sat there so long it’s become something of a celebrity in the area, even appearing in television productions such as the Romper Stomper reboot. Those who alight from the nearby tram stop can’t help but notice it.

Adding to the intrigue is the sign standing in front of it marking the private car park as a tow-away zone. So how could it have stayed there so long?
https://www.smh.com.au/national/vict...13-p5ewyv.html

If you guys hit the pay-wall, open it as a private/incognito tab and it should work.

Less than 5% left on the road three years ago, and today would be even less. I would say that's rare enough.
