Jesus, settle down kids.
If your fleet company doesn't renew the reg when they are supposed to (and are paid to) and you get caught, you are responsible for paying the fine which is the law. I would be going to the boss for reimbursement, who would then deduct the same amount from the next months lease payment, simples.

Good luck getting out of the fine. Brother got pulled up with his trailer on, had all the inspection stuff sitting on the seat (passed) just had to pay the rego fee. Copper fined him even when he paid the rego online there and then (at the officers mention that he could pay via the net). What was said afterwards was lucky I didn't have to bail him out, guess the cop was having a bad day. Bloody unreal you would fine a person for a trailer one day out of rego, that had been inspected and paperwork was all there ready to pay, the he paid it there on the spot. He was not happy

If you can go straight to the Boss, chances are the company is too small to have a lease company. There would be an administrator in charge. The simplest thing is have a sticker on the top RHS of your windscreen, and check when it is due. A company I worked for would send a copy of the Rego certificate. Another reason to not have the Rego papers in your Car, is if it is stolen they have your address. If you left your keys near the Car, you house will also be empty. That is why many people set the GPS home to a Police station or close to home. |

And bearing in mind that mounting a civil case can cost the plaintiff (you) tens of thousands of dollars to employ an SC. So no... I don't regard my comment as unnecessarily "harsh". I stand by it. I also refuse to accept the implied defence of illegal activities as being the result of being "only human" or "we all make mistakes". In more than 50 years of driving and owning motor vehicles, I've not once driven an unregistered vehicle. Call me smug if you like, but that's a simple fact.

Some of you guys sound like petty bureaucrats. Logic says the person responsible for registering the car should be the one to get the fine, not necessarily the one behind the wheel at the time.
In any case. What even is registration? A record of who owns a car, and which specific car. Little more. Why are we so obsessed about this when it has virtually no impact on anyone? You're late re-registering or the fleet manager forgot. So what? CTP should be tied to the user, not the vehicle. Pay it with your licence. Can a car drive itself? |

The wife and i had two white AU Falcons once, both ran out of reg with in a month.
One day i got a fine in the mail for being unregistered, when we checked we discovered she had reregistered her car instead of mine allowing mine to lapse whilst hers had an early extension. Wrote a letter to the powers that be with copies of the rego papers showing the similarities and explained that it was a mistake and the wrong car got registered at that particular time due to the similarities in rego papers and also showed that the other rego had been paid and both were up to date. No way, pay up. Good luck. |

As for civil damages that has nothing to do with registration except for car insurance which is not compulsory (optional) Read this link since you do understand registration insurance https://www.comparethemarket.com.au/...ance/victoria/ So my previous statement still stands. |

Nope, not the case at all. If you're driving an unregistered vehicle (nil TAC insurance) then you'll be liable for costs incurred for injury or death to either party.

I'm saying registration is a technical infringement. It has no bearing on anything. Its like getting a parking fine on an empty street. If CTP were tied to the driver, there would be no need to register a car other than the first time it hits the road, or significant changes are made to it. This doesn't mean a driver wouldn't need to be aware of *relevant* issues involving the car that have a tangible safety impact. Registration does not.

Look at the definitions of what is classified under the TAC as a motor vehicle, some of these can not be registered. http://www.tac.vic.gov.au/providers/...port-accidents |

How can a push bike be registered?
I went through the TAC when I had a motor bike accident. I was unlicensed and the motor bike was unregistered, no one else involved in the accident.I still was able to claim through the TAC. Just the same as if I was driving my car. |

Well look at your pist, where does it say anything about a Push bike. And a vehicle DOES HAVE TO BE REGISTERED TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD. To be registered you have to be covered, Think you should read your TAC book again.

Fair Dinkum Fella's...
This thread is getting way off topic now... 1. Check your rego (using the app if you are tech savvy - otherwise just risk it) 2. Check your tyres (make sure they are roadworthy) 3. Check your indicators (are they are functioning correctly) 4. Check your lights (parking, low beam, then high beam - in that order) 5. Check your brake lights (reverse up to a window if you've got no mates) 6. Check for any oil leaks 7. Not sure how you can check your brakes without driving (need some advice) 8. Windscreen wipers (is that a roadworthy requirement?) 9. Check your horn 10. Have I missed anything? Oh crap, the bottlo is closed now as it's taken me so long to do a pre-driving inspection To the OP - I hope that you have some luck getting off, or at least a reduced sentence.

Rego is for a Motor Vehicle. Or a trailer that is towed behind. If you fit a Motor to a Bike, there is a wattage / power limit for legal use. There is some merit in Rego on a bike though, the rider will be accountable for their actions. |

Hello,
Why not set it in Outlook a week before, and a reminder a few days before expiry ? |

My rego is set up as a periodic payment, a little every 2 weeks, automatically deducted. I get emails every 2 weeks telling me the deduction has happened.
I don't need reminders, I dont get hit with a big payment, I usually don't even think about it. I'm not sure if this is the case in other states, or if this suits everyone, but it works for me, in SA. I guess what is needed is for people to find the system that works for them, because the sticker isn't there anymore. |

Hello,
I agree about keeping it simple. Some people would be here everyday, so why not have the computer remind them for no cost ? Another thing you could do is print out a Word Doc with birthdays, anniversaries and rego / insurance stuff. Laminate and have it on the fridge with everything in months. Edit, I am a little distrustful of automatic payments, I reckon if anything goes wrong you will be told that you should have checked it. In the event of an error or mistake, they have your money and wont be as fast to return it as to take it. Last edited by BFGasUte; 09-04-2016 at 10:15 AM. Reason: Spelling, add more text. |

Rather timely for this thread I've just received my second reminder, via email, from the RMS that my Rego is due in two weeks.
The first reminder came two weeks ago. So if I forget to renew it it's because of old age and senility, not lack of reminders

Just pay it when the renewal arrives. I never looked at the sticker, all cars are registered. Think this thread is getting a bit complicated now.

I always have the problem that I'm out of state when I know the rego papers are arriving at the PO box. (Victoria rego)
Having 5 registered trucks, 4 under 4.5GVM (no stickers) I keep the dates and reminders on my phones calendar. simple enough. (Ignorance is no excuse of the law, I was once told by the cops.) Problem I have though is Vicroads will not send out renewals to a temporary interstate address. (I don't like interweb banking) If I can have my water, council rates, and PO box renewals emailed to me I don't see why Vicroads can not do this. I change state addresses back and forth several times a year to get my renewals sometimes. I like the direct debit idea thefargo from S.A mentioned earlier. That would work great.
