My mrs was impressed with the Ad . Said it looked Euro and she wouldn't mind owning one if it was a Calais though, as she would only have all the boxes ticked .

We looked at FG's at our local dealer , which has used cars in the same lot . She said " but this 55k one looks like that 24k used one over there .....

That's why the AU hasn't gone yet :/

The bottom most spec Falcon

The top most spec Falcon still sold with ford badging

And the entry level FPV compared to an xr6...

Really not a big difference

Okay, saw my first VF up close and personal this week at work.

I shall give my completely honest, unbiased opinion.

From the front - Looks very Korean, and does not flow well to the side doors. Rounded front is bulgy, does not fit with the "square" door geometry the VE had. There is also chrome everywhere and looks extremely cheap and tacky.

That vent on the side looks... pointless? Up close it isn't hollow, just a glued/pinned on piece of plastic. The rest of the car looks extremely 'taxi' and boring, but they pin on a chrome faux side vent? WTF...

Looking from the front, and over to the rear it looks bloody horrendous. It almost looks like a really long hatchback from some angles, or as if it's been rear-ended.

From the front, to the side, to the rear the car is completely messed up. Does not flow at all. What the hell were they going for, seriously?

Rear looks like a sagging, bulgy bum. Massive piece of black plastic at the bottom looks nasty. Tail lights are boring and Korean.

I looked in the interior, and I'm sorry, but it's not all everyone is cracking it up to be. It looks as the exterior does - very cheap and tacky, chrome highlights everywhere.

I still think the FG interior is better. I still do not understand the praise for the interior, it looks CHEAP.

BTW, there was a mazda 6 parked several spots up, and the rear ends are almost identical

A couple pics, none of interior though:

It may drive well for all I know, but there's no way in hell you'd catch me driving one. All fanboy-isms aside, it is butt ugly.

It's a decent ad.

It basically shows how far the humble commodore has come and what the falcon always wanted to be. Latest tech with export potential all done with good old Aussie ingenuity.

All good but as usual.....haters gonna hate.

I'm not a hater of cars, there's just some that don't look good & as so I would never buy one. I have to admit that the OMEGA series commodore looked nice, specially the rear end. So whats up with the new model, looks like they've completely severed the boot and try to turn it into a hatch back! If it weren't for the holden badge I wouldn't know it's a holden at all. ugly thing I reckon. If I had a choice between the holden and a taurus....I'd catch the bus!

I agree the bread and butter Holden looks pretty rubbish from where I'm sitting but then, it's not really the model that's supposed to look good is it? It's a fleet car or cheap family car but I think it's main sales will be bulk orders from rental mobs or fleet leases. The up spec sv6 and so on will be the private sales, and will probably look pretty decent in comparison to the base model.
I'm no big fan of the new VF styling, front and rear are just not doing it for me. The car as a whole however is a winner. The ad should help drive sales and I'm glad that it will. I don't want to see Holden die. I like to joke about them as much as the next ford fan but I have a healthy respect for Holden and I'd hate to be one of their workers should the factory shut its doors. I've said in the past that due to what Australia has become that we have no place manufacturing cars here. I wish it weren't true but when your Australian made cars sales are dropping year in year out, the CEO's of companies like ford look to doing the last resort and closing the doors. It's sad to say it but I think Holden will be next and that hurts almost as much as ford(almost but not quite, ford closing down in 3 years was like losing my brother!).

I will not be pessimistic about this though, rather I wait with eager anticipation the next 3 years of production from both red and blue team to see what they come out with. I think both will be awesome!

2 things I have learned from that video:

1. The Falcon is a much better looking car than the VF. If anything, the VF has gone backwards compared to the VE.

2. The Falcon is faster.

3. I love the Falcon.

4. While I don't wish Holden to shut down, I can't help but think there wouldn't be this love/support/admiration on the Holden forum if the situation was reversed. And I think that's why Holden sells more: its fans are more loyal, unfortunately.

Was looking on ls1.com.au and noticed a few posts where it is noted the fit and finish on the VF is a little sub par:

Quote:
went and looked at an R8 today while I was at the dealership, it looked good but then tacky at the same time. the interior was nothing wow it felt like you were in a SS the only thing to say you were in a HSV was the logo on the dash and gauges down below, which mind you look cheap and an after thought, it didn't take me long to pull them out not great fitment at all, the thing I did like was the knob which manages the EDI. the other let down was fit and finish, gaps here and there white paint chipped from most plastic corners, could even put my little finger in the door seal gap near the A pillar and exterior mirror.
A picture was also attached but my phone won't let me copy the pic url

if a few more people notice these issues then the car that's always turned heads will definitely be changing minds.

People also reporting problems with the HUD on the Commodore models, one guy had to remove his battery for a while to reset the computer as the HUD had frozen

Best Automotive TV add i have seen in a long time, that's how you pull at the heart strings of your target market.

I went to the local HSV dealer earlier today with a mate considering a Gen F R8 and they are a very, very nice machine, i'm as blue blooded as they come but your flat out blind if you can't appreciate what they have done with that car.

One of the best ads of any kind I've seen in a while.

Two things - they talk about staring at screens and yet that's exactly what the cars have over the previous model, a big LCD screen.

Also felt saddened when they showed the rear of the car, just not liking it.

Still an absolutely fantastic, emotive advert.

Was driving down the princess hwy in Melbourne this arvo, looked in my rear vision mirror and saw a VF coming up behind me. I thought id slow down change lanes and let it pull up next to me as we were approaching traffic lights so I could get a good look. Now I reckon I know my cars pretty well, car pulls up next to me and its an Epica. Made me chuckle...
