OK I have never gone to the summernats and probably will never go, I was going to the Easternats (Sandown raceway easter weekend sif you didn't know) and the "burnout finals" are absolutely feral. Apparently the summernats is far worse than this, I work as a security guard and I can tell you that at events such as this "responsible" service of alcohol goes out the window. (I have worked horse racing events) the organizers need to responsibly serve alcohol (by this I mean don't start selling it at 10 am). you see if you cut the flow of alcohol then the ones that like to drink themselves into a coma go elsewhere to do it. Granted the entire of Canberra would be very difficult to make "dry" and if they did so think of the money they wouldn't make on selling booze.
Also I will never ever take my wife to such an event due to the treatment she will receive because she is a she how I think the event needs to be run : Alcohol CANNOT be purchased anywhere inside the ACT or in surrounding NSW any time before 5 PM and not sold AFTER 12 AM (midnight). If we severely limit the amount of alcohol that can be bought, you stop its consumption and drive away the drunken larrakins. But I am a realistic person and I know that it will never ever happen because the potential money that can be made selling alcohol is miles too great. So unfortunately IMHO the Summernats will die in a drunken blur of bogans and boob flashes also : I agree the rice influence is not something I am into spending money on paintwork and things on a bone stock car doesn't make sense to me "zing before bling"

I have been going to Summernats since Nats 5 and have been going with my wife since Nats 9 We have been as spectators, entrants and as a trader. We have never seen anything happen that you wouldnt see at the football or the cricket. Im not saying that the bad behaviour is acceptable but lets face it heat and alcohol is always going to bring out the stupid in people.
If you are there with a girl its probably best to leave the area by about 5pm to avoid the harassment. As my wife says if you dont dress and act like a tramp you will not be hassled. I am positive Chic Henry lives in Canberra as his cars have ACT plates and I have seen him a couple of times while in Canberra for work. Victor Bray has not been a regular at the Nats for a long time he has just made guest appearances the last couple of times. Peter Fitzpatrick was there I spoke to him a couple of times over the 3 days but he is there with his son and his Datsun 1600. I live in Sydney and would hate it if the Nats came here half the fun is travelling to Canbera with my mates etc. 2 possible venues I have heard is Eastern creek and Homebush. If it was at Eastern Creek where is the accomodation? not everyone wants to camp. If it was at Homebush how is it possible to fence off the whole area and keep people out without paying etc. Thats my 2 cents |

On the subject @ Easternats this poor girl got "show us ya t!ts" all damn day - why? not because she was dressed like a tramp was because she had big ones (pretty sure she was wearing jeans/tshirt?) after an hour or so of this her boyfriend wound up in an all in brawl beating people up, from the look of it he had some kinda fighting skill like karate or something, then they left peacefully. Totally ruined it for alot of people.

[QUOTE=mrbaxr6t]hm you are on very thin ice here my wife and mother of my children does not dress like a tramp.
Hmmmm I dont believe I said she did mate especially since I have no clue who you or your wife are. Basically read between the lines ie:- dressing like a tramp does not help the cause. |

And known my luck I'd get an assault charge because some scumbags can't keep their mouths shut. : Last edited by XBROO; 08-01-2009 at 09:06 PM. |

I doubt it will go to Sydney. I thought this year was quieter than last but still had a good time and spent a few days extra seeing the war museum a full day to see it but very interesting and the museum of Australian history that was average. As for drunken fools well you get them and yes they can be annoying but laughable as well. Even when I used to go to the street rod festivals in Narrandera in the 70's there were running around drunk and smashing shop windows. Somehow I think the summer nats was created from the Narrandera car festivals from the late 70’s. |

Well, my wife and I have been going for the past 6 years. This year, we found that Thursday was busier than usual, (Not many drunken idiots, just a lot of cars cruising around and people genuinely looking at the cars).
Friday was dead as, and a great disapointment. Saturday was back to normal. I thought this year was alot more tame than other years. The grounds at Epic are large and have many areas, and we have found over the years, that where you stand has an impact on your experience of the Summernats. (As a spectator anyway). There is a large element of drunken bogans who are there for the wrong reasons. (Maybe bored locals). As for alcohol sales, Jack Daniels and VB sponsor the event. Can't see it ever being a dry event with those sponsors. For my wife and I, it still is about the cars, The Top 60, the street cars on the paddock, and the cars in Tuff Street. The idiot brigade usually favours the roadside making it easier to see the cars. In my opinion, the problem is we have a whole generation of show goers, who have no respect for anyone or anything. Numerous times I heard the idiots screaming "Show us your tits", and when it didn't happen, they would then refer to the girl as a "5lut". Anyway, we enjoyed the event and we enjoy going to Canberra, (From Brisbane) and we will be back again next year, (hopefully if its still on). |
