Well depending on your view Russia gave up Snake Island as an act of good will or Ukraine took it
I do have to say is that that the rhetoric from the West has to actually be matched by action and quickly. There was a golden opportunity that was lost when Russia fell back to the east of Ukraine. There really is the risk of fatigue going on in the West. On paper and rhetoric, Russia has united the EU and NATO in a way we thought not possible a couple of years ago but it means **** all if they do nothing and Russia just waits them out which at the moment is what's looking like happening. Troops and equipment don't mean **** unless you get them quick. |

According to the ISW 30 June update, Putinland forces realised that they were on a hiding to nothing by remaining. It's not like you can maneuver an island out of the way of incoming cruise missiles and artillery shells. It also mentions that the men and equipment were needed as reinforcements for The Donbas battle.

& Snake island is a nautical pinata, try keeping it if you are in overwhelming missile range of the other side, that includes trying to supply it. Edit: same holds true for both sides in SCSea & first island chain

Yale has released a report on the Russian economy.
https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....act_id=4167193 This doesn't mean the rest of the world will be ok, just that they think that Russia is headed for economic oblivion if the sanctions remain. |

Sounds like the counteroffensive has started in Kherson Oblast.
Over past few weeks Ukraine have projected an offensive there, and Russia responded by sending more troops from Donbas and surrounds. Ukraine now taking out the remaining bridges over the Dnipro, which would leave 25k Russian troops stuck on the wrong side of the river. People have been suggesting that would be the tactic all along, and it now seems to be happening - which in some ways has me worried as it was so widely and openly spoken of that Russia had to expect it and likely have their own plan. Also would not surprise me if Russia had no plan other than throw more meat into the grinder. In a pinch most of those troops could get back across the river, but not with their equipment and vehicles. HIMARS have made a massive difference in recent weeks - forcing Russian ammo depots and command posts to be moved from 35kms behind the front line to over 100km behind the front line to get them out of HIMARS range. In terms of ammo resupply that means they can only do one third of the resupply runs that they could do pre-HIMARS |

I am hoping the push back goes "well" for Ukraine, my concern is Putin is going to crack the sads and send something large over the border by air...
All of this...and for what? The world should have jumped on Russia harder earlier.

I’d like to see a solid outcome with the least fallout in terms of further unacceptable behaviour (AKA war crimes). And from there a reciprocal acknowledgement of the current, ongoing effort put in by third parties, manifested by Ukraine stepping up to improve its issues with corruption and nepotism.
One of the not-much-discussed aspects of a Ukrainian victory overall, is it effectively reduces key figures of their own régime to lifetime prisoners - or at least needing heavy protection indefinitely. VZ would be well aware of this, but continues on regardless. I haven’t seen much discussion of the aggregated seats of power in Russia, besides VVP there is Lavrov, a Stalin-in-waiting should he get the chance. A lot of other names swirl about, but most are highlighted by craven opportunism rather than steely, murderous graft. My point being, should the chairman cease life by means fair or foul, longer term succession is somewhat unquantified and could be messy. It still wouldn’t make things safe for Ukraine. |

Agree CB, for months I have been hoping for Putin to be overthrown, but now I fear if he were to be it would be done by ultra-nationalists that would be even worse than him

So much dislike for Russia and it's right to remove threats from it's directly against it's borders and to stop the killing of civilians in Crimea, just as the US tried to do over Cuba, just as Aus/US/NZ get all excited when the Chinese visit some pacific Islands that are slowly sinking under rising sea levels as the west sits back going about it's business of trying to achieve world domination.... yet the MSM carries on pumping out the fake news, lies and propaganda to keep it's people herded and corralled into continuing to keep the wheels of inflation grinding on, printing money to pay for everything whilst those at the top of the pyramid live better lives than the king fella the MSM is fawning over when not harping on about the death of some elderly granny who outlived her usefulness by some 70 odd years.... ahhh yes, the MSM rolls on and the sheepeople keep on believing....

Celebrity auction time? I’m sure someone like Jay Leno or Richard Branson would find it a forever home.

Have not been following day by day.
Putin is a moron. He is a sociopathic, megalomaniac idiot. He will be found one morning dead in bed, due to "a unexpected medical event". Anyway, over and out. |

Lol drafting protesters. Sending those who don't want to fight the most to the front line is not a winner but in any case they couldn't support the original force and now they want to send double that
There are some ****ing loose units in Russia when it comes to nukes. Imagine thinking any of this going on would justify that threshold. |
