Don't know what the fuss is all about.

Whats wrong with me putting a bulge bonnet on my XR6? Its my hard earned and I like the look of the bonnet. Besides, I like the look of the Typhoon rear wing too, so I might put one of them on as well.

It's all personal taste. I don't want to spend my dollars on go fast bits cause thats not my scene, but I want my XR6 to look good. After all, it's still a Ford and it looks good, thats all that matters :sm_headba

It's an error. The engineers didn't allow for enough space to fit the BOSS motor and they they had to modify to suit, the buldge is proof os a massive mistake.

As in the origanal post there are a lot of cars that have the aggots t carry of the bulge, Spoolmans car alone is as tough as you could get and in a way you could strap 2 bulges on that thing and it still would not be enough.

But more in keeping with the post theme are these cars with no more go than a worn out datsun 120Y putting the bulge on and the only result is a false high in the drivers pants, and that their money may be better spent on some go fast bits.

The way I understood it was that the Ford engine development team tried a number of different length manifolds and the one they settled on resutled in a clearance issue at the top of the bonnet.

Also it gives model differentiation which is good for brand recognition.

Who cares if its not needed on an XR6 etc... If you like the look of it, why the hell shouldnt you have a bonnet bulge? because some of you dont like the look of it?
I dont think this is rice, rice is shopping lists on old skylines, drift wings on excels etc...
By many of your definitions, spoilers on BA SR's, EB s-packs, and AU SE's are rice...
Are side skirts rice? or the little door panels on EL/AU1 XR's rice? or do they have a significant downforcing purpose?

well, I put a carbon fibre bonnet onto my 3v ghia after i melted the lining on my stock bonnet due to my custom CAI setup hitting the bonnet.
A boss bonnet popped up, and i bought it and havent looked back.

In my case it's not rice i guess, as it has a purpose and confuses the hell out of xr8, GT owners when you leave them in your dust, they must think i have a 290 lurking under there!

The boss bulge on holdens really gets to me as well.
I dont know what to vote though.......

I actually changed my mind, I don't mind the bulge on the Terry, and it does blend in with the existing lines. I won't bother though cus I already got the factory one! :evilking:

Lol, if you say so.

Does that mean any modification made to the body work of a vehicle to suit a certain change or part is a mistake?

I think the Boss bonnet looks phat!

i have the bonnet on my ute. i have always wanted the bonnet because i thought it would make front end match my rear end due to the buldge on my hard cover (BF hardcover?) i think it makes the car look alot tougher.

[IMG][/IMG]
i dont have those rims on my car yet kenz photoshopped it on for me. hopefully it wont be too long before i have those rims.

Whether or not it looks good is not the issue, from every person Ive spoken to it was a "mistake".

But then again the XC Cobra was a "mistake" in a way aswell.

MRAH33, you should have asked!

I think any Ute's with the buldge hard top need the buldge bonnet to match.

While I vote NO, I must say that I saw an R33 Skyline the other day near Chadstone. Yellow one with a bulge and black stripes with "Skyline" written on them... that my friend is RICE City....

Its sad what is happening out there but I have to say that I love the bulge on the correct car... one with which Ford place it on and no other.

the term rice burner or rice, has taken on an alternate pejorative meaning for an automobile that has been modified to give impression of high performance, but does not necessarily have any high-performance capabilities.
But really who cares? Some people want to have a good looking car but not have to put up with high fuel consumption, delicate engines and all that.

Plenty of the aforementioned XR6T owners have the bulge bonnet to fit large diameter piping, others cos they reckon theres not enuff to differentiate the T's from the N/A 6's. But of course there are those who have been drawn from more traditionally ricer manufacturers by the hairdryer.
Whatever it is as far as I'm concerned if you're gonna walk the walk..... out: .. you'd better talk the talk it:

I shoulda read it before I voted.
bonnet bulges should be functional, I like it, looks awsome. but leave it to cars that actually have a beast of an engine to cover up.

yeah it is akin to putting a sock down your pants imo :

A bonnet bulge on a 6 (or a 4) is like a padded bra.. it looks great from the outside but once you get inside you're dissapointed with what you find...

yea i have seen it on a few magna's and other jap cars kicking about brissy. Personally its no longer the BOSS buldge or XR8 Buldge as i think ford has named it ... but a part of the bodykit that you put on your car because it looks stock soft.

Like anything though it is in the application and workmanship that makes the buldge tacky and a RICE mod if it isn't done correctly
Great job done on the buldge but it doesn't suit the lines for your X series. Youve got straight hard lines no real curves (excluding the wheel arches) sorry m8 just my opion and it sort of adds to the rice factor ... cept you car looks like it actually does have power ... unlike those jap rice cars that can't keep up with my XH
