Nephew had a electric scooter, he said he felt like a D!@# riding it so he bought a electric skate board, now that thing fly's, It would do 60 ks plus no problem, just looks like a longboard with rubber wheels.



I can remember as a kid with our cheap Kmart skateboards flying down the hill, was probably only 20 ks but felt like 100, lost plenty of knee and hand skin with that one, hate to see what damage he could do at the speeds it does.

I'm down on the surf coast (VIC), kids on these things everywhere!

Nup - clown world, do something about all the armed robberies and shootings going on around Melbourne, like what happened today in Fawkner/Campbellfield with the assassination attempt and then the car jacking, then worry about Mr Glass BBQ and his e-scooter IMO.

Just cause he was riding a scooter at 58km/h on the road doesn't guarantee he would have died

Less baby sitting adults, if they come off at 60km/h without a helmet and protective gear its their problem IMO.

Even the overreaction of the flat bed turning up to take away his e-scooter, just throw it in the boot and drop it off to the impound, its just making a show out of it at our expense.

Its like how they used the police helicopter about a week ago to intercept a 17 year old kid riding on a motorised esky selling weed in Narre Warren - helicopter to intercept? Really? Then the kid got let off with a warning anyway:

Very easy to park.
It would be fun spending time riding past speed cameras with a finger in the air.

The potential was there and whether you think it’s an acceptable risk or not, it’s not permitted.
Now, if they let everyone on a scooter do it, you have a ton more potential risk for a serious event,
let that expand through the community and somewhere someone is going to come to grief.
That’s why it has to be nipped in the bud.

Sure, there are other thing for the cops to do but they can do plenty at the same time.
What about other things doesn’t come into it, this is kids stuff that adults must abide too.

If this is true I’m not surprised. Governments love letting big business do things that private citizens or small businesses are not allowed to do.

Many years ago before UberEats and all the other big food delivery companies were around a few friends in Newcastle started a fast food delivery business. They were shut down because they were told they couldn’t guarantee food safety.
When when big business does it, it’s all good.

No different to someone on a push bike riding at the same speed at the end of the day.

The only difference is the cyclist wouldn't have the tow truck called and be up for 4 figures worth of fines and a court appearance where the magistrate is going to say, here is $3000 worth of fines for your 58km/h e-Scooter adventure and here is $550 for the methamphetamines

They didn't charge me for taking it to the wrong impound yard, the fighting between two towing companies over who got to keep my car for the 30 days then the 60km transfer between yards though - discount!

Get me in as transport minister and I'll fix the absolute ****show VIC is.

Starting with unrestricted e-scooters, I'll bring back the unrestricted Hume Freeway and Tullamarine/Monash Freeway variable speed limit will go up to 200km/h

Alternatively I'm also happy to be head honcho of VicRoads where my first order of business is to put up big photos of myself in all the offices.

Will also throw up reviews of every restaurant/cafe in Spring Street.

They are everywhere in L.A and San Francisco but it was cheaper to get an Uber than it was to rent a scooter.. but lotsa fun zipping around drunk bar to bar hahaha

And another....bound to be plenty of others not making the news. So I think there is a place for policing, rather than have them taken away.

I personally haven't come across any close calls, and most riders I've seen have been quite sensible.

Been a couple of deaths in the last few weeks with these things, what they all have in common is all three they weren't wearing helmets when they ate ****.

Repeated calls for bans on these things are ridiculous, it would be like banning cars because a couple deaths from people not wearing seat belts and dying in accidents.

The way I see it they should be treated like motorbikes, allow privately owned escooters that can do higher speeds but enforce safety through helmets and clothes - you want to ride the 50km/h+ escooter then you're wearing motorbike helmet plus proper clothes, otherwise fine.

This BS regulated world of ours - what next.
Just did 2wks in europe and in Milan done over 36k's on those Lime scooters.
Absolute hoot, cheap as chips wot speed of 25k's.
Thankfully laws are far looser there compared to this stoopid place of ours.
On pathways, streets you name it - pedestrians here there everywhere, no one barking at you one bit.

Haven't heard anyone calling for a ban. Self inflicted injuries....well you take the risk so I don't really care, but its the injuries they cause to innocent pedestrians that ****s me. Should be treated as culpable driving, if some nong ran into my mum or dad....or nephew...or niece doing 60kmh on a shared path, I'd be livid.

Anyway, Limes and Neurons are legal here. I suspect they are built solid, and to a certain standard, unlike some of the high powered ones you get off ebay. There have been 3 deaths in the last 2 weeks, I think all from privates. I really like the idea of ebikes and escooters for city commute, so don't mind them as long as people treat them with respect. That also means motorists will need to learn to co-exist. good luck with that here.

Europe have had these for a while, so they would have gone through all the teething issues around safety and co-existence. They also have better infra to cater for these things IMHO. Put it this way, I had no fear riding a push bike around London with no helmet. There is no chance in hell I'd ride a push bike in the CBD here. Roads and paths are badly made, they were not designed for this type of commute, and I don't trust the motorists here In Amsterdam you see mums and dads putting their kids in a little tub attached to the front of the bike, and they ride around. I can't see any sane person doing that on our roads.

The E-Scooters are tracked, they are speed limited and it can be identified who was using it.

You can't have high speed unregistered scooters around, that's worse than unregistered Cyclists which get plenty of complaints

Perhaps, but a Cyclist cannot accelerate like the scooter nor do the Weigh as much.

Riding a Bike wasted crashing seems to be Personal, whereas the scooter can take out a crowd,

just an observation

I think they will become a nuisance as more and more kids get them. I think that you should need to register them if allowing them for useon the road and they should be prohibited on footpaths full stop and not allowed for kids to use. Registration could reduce kids buying or using them as it could be used to make an adult liable for any misuse or underage use. Maybe also there could be a small third party insurance levy to cover injury to third parties.

Europe have had these for a while, so they would have gone through all the teething issues around safety and co-existence. They also have better infra to cater for these things IMHO. Put it this way, I had no fear riding a push bike around London with no helmet. There is no chance in hell I'd ride a push bike in the CBD here. Roads and paths are badly made, they were not designed for this type of commute, and I don't trust the motorists here In Amsterdam you see mums and dads putting their kids in a little tub attached to the front of the bike, and they ride around. I can't see any sane person doing that on our roads.
Mate the prob here is no one has any tolerence let alone we never grew up like the culture in europe and asia having heaps of vespa's/and bikes used in asia plus cyclist's here there everywhere.
As for roads paths, christ europe's roads/paths are only centuries odler in some case's doesn't worry them as you'd know, we were ripping along cobbled stone roads around Milan and elsewhere, our cbd roads are fine compared to that for escooter/bike use.
Trouble is here is so entitled, everything needs to be smooth/well made/law abiding - woke is me
I agree with your comment about motorists here, its not the road/path conditions to worry about more like the road users and the countless whingers in this day and age.
