My dads mate has a GT knock off. (look just like the GTHO but only one headlight each side. It's a 6 cylinder)
As in not real but looks like one. He reckons worth a fair bit, i thought not at all (he got upset) Was I wrong? |

No, well, if its in good shape it gets good old car value. So not over inflated, but its no nest egg, especially being a faker and a 6. If it was kept original, still no nest egg, but maybe a bit more worth then a bastardised not as desireable thing. So 15 to 20. Before my father inlaw ended up in a nursing home, he thought his hx kingswood was worth a mint. Its in good shape, but its a stock base model, 202 with a single throat carb, 3 speed column shift manual, bench seat 6 seater, basic bones doesnt even have the electric tailgate window. It may be worth money to someone who wants to get it cheap for an ls swap and all that. Being a 202 the chassis rails wont be cracked like they have a habit of. Its no premier, thats for sure.

He paid 35K - (now restored) wants 100K plus. Dad just told me it is real? GT he calls it.....definitely not an 8 cylinder. I know of GTHOs as amazing but a GT? Never heard of it especially a 6 cylinder. I said (like The Castle quote) you are dreaming!! He's confident as, so he may be right Last edited by MercuryT; 21-03-2020 at 04:44 PM. |

I love 'em all to be honest . My most desirable if money was no object for me would be an XR, XY or XW GT , genuine of course . Best looking for me would be the FG and FGX...but I am biased of course.
However I'm pretty certain the most reliable and speaking from personal experience is the AU . Add to the fact they're also pretty cheap to maintain and repair by most of us . BA and BF much liked also . XA, XB and XC right up there for looks and toughness . I've owned the following birds ...XB ute , XE GL , EF Futura , BA Fairmont Ghia and my current two ...AU ll Futura and FG XR6....six in all and at least one of each letter code .. 2x X's and one of the A's,B's, E's and F's.... |

The EL and the BA are the other two Falcons that I fell in love with immediately upon seeing it for the first time.

Don't have a go at me as I'm not nostalgic Ford knowledgeable! I joined due due to my amazing BA T experience.
Are Cortina's sought after too like old Falcons? The guy I said previously down the road (I referred previously) has this green 2 door Cortina restoring and he reckons worth a bit when it's finished. (It's looking near newrestoring already) Doesn't do anything for me at all compared to old Falcons as too little/shape/boring but he seemed confident!! Im pretty sure we only got later cortinas in a 4 door. The mark 1s there was the 2 door, the 2 door gt and the lotus in a 2 door. Other then that now i may be completely incorrect, but i think the later 2 doors were private imports. So yeah, pretty cool and desirable. Mainly because we didnt get them. Probably mainly 4 bangers, imports wouldnt have had the 250 crossflow as the local high end ones had. The only cortina i have driven was a 78 with the 250 crossflow. No power steering, no worries. It went pretty good untill i realised it had no power assisted brakes. The accelerator was easy to push, the brake pedal definately needed a bit more weight and effort to bring that thing to a stop.

As previous i know nothing about old Ford's (outside the GTHO which I loved when younger) but these Cortinas no idea! You clearly know all about it and I'll try and get a pic. I simply don't know how on here but I'll upload when I can. I've been told claims Gov benefits, but restores cars for good cash on top - he has done heaps of cars (all Fords....but don't quote me) |

Found the exact model :4.
If you Google Cortina MK3 2 door - it's identical to the first Red one. (his is green and lowered - he reckons (as previous) will sell so who knows! Last edited by MercuryT; 26-03-2020 at 08:56 PM. |

I love the later 2 door cortinas. Yeah, they didn't sell them here so if you see one it's a UK import. First time I saw one was 20 years ago and from memory reminds me of a 3/4 scale 60s camaro with front round headlights in the grille and coke bottle rear hips.
E: Oh, I just google image searched it, not as nice looking as I remember |

Cortinas sure have gone up in value lately, however still grounded compared to anything with a more high profile loxal motorsport pedigree.

I might be bias but I love the XD. Grew up watching Tru Blu through the early 80’s and have loved them ever since.

The Cortinas and you can include the Eskies being pommy were troublesome vehicles.
In saying that certain models did get up and for the times. You could say they were "little" car prior to the Jap growth really taking over. The ol Mk1/2 GT went well, mate had one. The last Cortinas were are real step up from their early gens, the 6's had get up and go. TC/TD Ghias were very nice looking bit of kit. I recall seeing a few on the race tracks with stonking V8's in them. Overall they were like all pommy cars we got accustomed to way back then, Leyland/Austins etc, some good models but so many ownership problems/repairs.

Wow, never thought I'd see two euro fords on this page, the mk3 TC coupe and a mk2 granada.
j/k I like the XD too, used to follow the tru blu and greens tuff as that was around the age I was old enough to get into racing or have an interest in cars. Nice low flat boot and lots of glass for visibilty in that old boxy car. Never needed much done to it except nice wheels and a bit of lowering. E: Hmm, they made granadas in 2 dr form as well https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1101922 It also seems there's plenty of 4drs in South Africa cheap... A slightly smaller scale 'XD" with IRS and a barra swap might be at the back of my mind now? Last edited by oldel; 27-03-2020 at 10:52 PM. |

Best one for me? XW and ZC. Ford were on the up, with more power, more motorsport and they were on the way to #1. Bigger engines, great styling, great colours inside and out. Customisation, GS packs. And chrome. It was a pretty good time for Ford in Oz. Anything was possible. Drop a GT driveline in a Fairlane? No worries. Give the managing director a big block - sure, fly it to the States for the conversion. Bring back a coupe shell and make a 427 show car.
