okay ,
in the early 70's , up in the high country , s/e of Tamworth nsw .
was hunting , pigs , rabbits etc, with me Dog , and rifle .

bloody big buck Roo , and me dog got into a bit of a disagreement ,
Roo actually lured me Dog into a creek ,, and me dog followed ,,

roo grabbed me dog ,, trying to drown him ...

Okay .. sighted me 22/250 , Roo fatally disabled , Dog alive ...

PPL later said later Roo's are protected , my reply was ,,,

Okay , I FIRED a bit of lead at his chest ., he dropped ,,
he was not protected ,,, .

before anyone jumps on the animal rights bandwagon ....
[those ppl should get a real job , and live in the bush for a while ] ..
and yes in those days i was a Pro roo shooter ,

my dog was more valuable to me than a wild feral animal ....

Yep roos go straight for the water when being chased by a dog.

I've seen it lots of times and it never ends well for the dog.

If you hadn't shot it, it would have killed the poor fella.

I've got a few wild roos on the farm that I leave food out for and have one pet that I hand raised. I have no problem with shooting a rogue though.

Here is my mate Blue, he's a red but like heeler dogs they can throw both colours.

I generally use a 300WSM for when Kangaroos have tried to drown any of my dogs.

yo , heavy 30cal , got some punch there .

reason i used 22/250 , was with Tags - to sell either the meat , or skins -
22cal left a small hole in the skin , for selling . and are tru ,reloads @ 'round 3200/ heavy load 4200 Fps -
you could not have both ways , one tag per roo, either sell tha meat , - OR - the skin ..

at the time it was 'bout 6-8cents a kilo -meat .. plus ya have to have a local
large cooler ,, hence the skin option . not much diff .
these days , for pigs .444 Marlin , all legit..
cheers .. mc..

ps , what kickback? anywhere near 45/70 ..

I think too many people watched Skippy & got the wrong idea, kangaroos can be dangerous at times, not to be underestimated.
