From all the reports I have read it is tabloid journalism causing the issue here (with interviews from Scruby, etc).

Just about all reports show the RS Focus is the darling of the motoring industry, just about a unanimous thumbs by motoring journos across the globe.
I should've worded it better. All these so called 'experts' (like Scruby, Haley and Owler) chiming in with their opinions and jumping on the bandwagon to slam Ford for bringing Drift Mode to Australia.

Apologies to the Motoring Journos out there

Well we wouldn't want people to be having fun now would we? Having a good time... that's just bloody un-Australian.

I'm getting an RS and an Adler assault rifle full auto rapid fire bolt action shot gun. And I'm going to drive around in drift mode letting off my 30 round clip magazine. At least while I still can.
Stupid media.

haha poor ole John. You know he used to have a career as a motoring journalist? I wonder what happened... Now he's reduced to donning this fictional personality he's invented for himself in front of his camera phone and posting his reactionary & deliberately over the top rantings on You Tube. It's not like any auto company would actually give him a car to test so what else can he do? Poor ole Johnny...

From article -

“We have had no negative feedback. In fact, it’s been quite the opposite,” Pericak said.

“Also, as far as ‘thinking twice’, yes…on more and more innovations like this. If you are a true car person, then you not only appreciate features like this but you love them. Our customers love the fact that we get it and we understand them.”

“I was hugely disappointed when we had to remove the line lock feature from the Mustang for Australia. This too has been a huge success globally.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So if the rest of the world understands it, why is Australia so backwards?

How is it anything different to turning traction control off and getting sideways? The answer is traction is still on but won't let you spin out. If the govco is so against it everything from an i30 to a Lamborghini with a traction off button will be banned. Ever tried pulling a boat out from a mossy ramp when traction control tells you you can't? Exactly, let them spin through the soft stuff till traction is achieved. Its not rocket surgery, yet some **** clown thinks it's not right and other fools listen

THIS.

Interesting how high end cars getaway with whatever they like but god forbid anyone on a common wage have the same experience.

Same goes for power, supercars (and even some "normal" sportscars) have so much more power than the local cars but we all get worried about the "power war" with the local cars....well...not so much now but there was always some idiot sparking up.

Its just DSC with a bit more tolerance...FFS.

It's under a menu for "TRACK MODE"

The car is for enthusiasts who like to pay and take their vehicles to the track and might want to try drifting under controlled conditions.

FFS if I wanted to talk to my Grandma I would pick up the phone.

I would say the lock feature has only one purpose.
Drift mode in the RS changes the bias to perform like a RWD. There are many on this forum that have a preference for RWD, they may prefer to drive in this mode.

Speaking to another RS owner who has some track time under his belt.
He reckoned the best lap times he got at Winton was with drift mode enabled and NOT track mode.
Note that drift mode has a 30 front/70 rear power split, with the normal suspension setting (which is still very firm).

Ford should have called it "normal track mode" instead of "drift" and no-one would be any wiser.

Mk2 was 70k

New one I paid 56k on road, which was normal full retail price.

And I agree, I don't think many MK3 RS owners will be doing street drifting.
Tyres are too expensive at $450 - $500 EACH !
Although the roof of the local westfields looks tempting after some rain
