Kudos for car-makers actually giving cars names these days no mater how crap.
Sure beats number and letter nameplates.

I do believe this thread deserves "The Seinfeld Award".

Who honestly cares? These cars have origins in the United States so who gives a tinkers cuss what American car companies call their models.

If you want to talk about Australian culture I'll go to town with you, for some reason our youth desire to be African American in the way they dress and talk, I'll agree with you on that but car names? Sheesh.

BTW, swearing prolifically is just filler words which are used when the brain is concentrating hard on what words to use, over use of profanity does tend to denote lower intelligence. That said, a carefully placed swear word can be either hilarious or powerful.

It most likely will, given that Ford owns the 'Falcon' trade mark for "Motor vehicles for the conveyance of passengers and goods, but not including agricultural or horticultural vehicles of any kind".

The trade mark is due for renewal in 2018, so if Ford doesn't renew it, Bentley can then use the mark. Even if they do, however, by 2019, assuming Ford retires the Falcon nameplate by 2016 and doesn't use it for any other car, Bentley may be able to apply for the Falcon trade mark and to remove Ford's Falcon trade mark for non-use.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Why would it bother anyone? Why does a car sold in a different country have to be renamed?

Probably the same reason they rename films eg: Mad Max 2 became The Road Warrior

Couldn't care less.
What should they be called? The Malibu should be the Holden Maroubra
Colorado should be called the Holden New South Wales.
When someone says Colorado I don't think of the US state, I think of the ute. I prefer cars to be named after things that I don't see everyday.

I find Australians either love or hate the US.
The ones who hate it don't want to be associated with the place no matter what.

You and President Obama....

Alaska refers to the rest of us (ignoring Hawaii) as "the lower 48." Look at a WWII-era flag and you'll see 48 stars.

Alaska and Hawaii are 49 and 50, although I'm not certain of the order.

If we get a 51st state, it will likely be Puerto Rico, and it will be poorer than Mississippi.

If they named them after Australian things, people would complain they are named after the wrong Australian things.
The new Ford Kangaroo should of been called the Ford Koala because we know Ford makes better koalaty cars than Holden.
The new Holden Cockatoo flys down the 400 metre drag strip, but that's all it's got going for it.

Yes but Falcon in itself isn't uniquely American. It's a species of bird native to many lands the world over.

Colorado and Malibu are uniquely American.

And to answer the OP... yes.

-Toyota Chaser Avante Lordly
-Mitsubishi Lettuce
-Isuzu Mysterious Utility Wizard (I'm glad they made the effort & rebadged it the Holden Frontera for Australia)
-Mitsubishi Pajero (I'm sure you have all heard of what it means in Spanish)
So does Nissan sell their Cedric and Sylvias there without changing their badges? And no, I don't know what Pajero means.

to OP: Then it's not just the Americans keeping their badges, the Japanese do it too. How would you feel if your question were reversed and we didn't want Aussie badges sold here? Just a fair question.

Australia has Falcons as a native bird so that's fine. Ford went with Territory as it has a local relevance - they could have called it a Detroit or a Seattle but of course it just wouldn't have made sense as the cars R&D came from here. Longreach was a successful nameplate. Subaru embraced the term Outback as a vehicle badge - it works. But do we need to have this Americanisation of everything including our cars via US locations...?
So as long as it's a location in the US then it's too American. For example, if somewhere in California there's a city that goes by Mustang, then the Ford Mustang would be on your list of Fords that should be rebadged before reaching AU?

And whether a lack of desire on the part of carmakers from any country to change their names to reflect the market they are sold in suggests that culturally we are seen as an extension of an American market?

Would you buy a Mazda Tokyo or a Hyundai Seoul?

Bring on the Taurus I guess and change its name for the Australian market to New York as we won't have a problem with that.
Actually, KIA here sells a SOUL. Kind of a play on words considering Seoul is pronounced soul. Their commercials are very cutesy with dancing hamsters.

Do you reakon Italians would buy a Malibu?
Outbacks are sold here and we're not complaining about the image that conjures. It's a + for the Outback that it's rugged enough to handle the outback. No complaints here that I've ever heard of.

True, so again, if Mustang were a city in California, then it would be an issue for the OP? Lucky thing there is no place called Mustang then.
