Hehe, I washed my Zetec today as well, then chucked on some Autoglym Super Resin Polish. It's hard work, but so worth it!

I've requested the dealer just to wash it, no polish as I got mine own. CG 109 and Pro polish and 50/50 wax.

I stripped anything they put on and started from scratch.

Do the same with any car I've bought.

However, a pre deivery usually ends up putting at least some swirls in the car.

For polishes I only use Menzerna (combination of IP and 106FF)

For sealants I usually use Z2, Opti-Seal or one supplied by a pro detailer I know

For LSP's I tend to use eithe OCW or a good carnauba paste wax such as Onyx or P21S100.

Have tried more pricey LSP's but didn't see much return

Candyman you not on DP by any chance. That’s why I have asked he dealer not to touch it I didn't want swirls.

Have been looking getting P21s 100 or CG Pete’s 53.

What do you use to strip? I do have CG citrus wash and gloss. Might get a bottle of concentrated degreaser that should do it.

What would you recommend?

No mate, I don't bother with DP these days. Spend time on another detailing forum.

They have to do a pre delivery, even as just a wash. Many times, the storage yard will already have washed the car before it even gets released to the dealer, often more than once.

I use Prepsol generally. Safer on trim. I have moved away from citric acid based cleaners and degreasers for that part of the process.

Which of site do you use? I have found DP not so welcoming. But still a interesting read.

They still make prepsol, haven't seen it in years. Really good stuff.

Thanks mate.

Detail addiction

I've got a rather large supply of Prepsol.

You can buy iso propyl and then do a 50:50 water mix.

Must say, I am impressed with the stock tyres that Ford put on the Zetec

Hankook Ventus S1 evo's.

They hold up well after spirited driving. Good progressive grip in the wet.

I'm sure they have a bit to do with the nice handling of the car.

They do stick well but far out I could not imagine a tyre that makes more road noise

Check the pressures ?

Ours are pretty quiet - probably as good in that area of any car I have driven.

Not sure about the CL and LX though as the tyre profiles are different I thnk. Certainly on the CL.

I am getting a black 3dr Zetec, after reading your comments on the pre delivery and swirl marks etc I actually rang my dealer and asked whether they polish the car during pre delivery. He said yes and I mentioned that I really don't want any swirl marks left etc he assured me that they spend more time on black ones sometimes they even hand polish them to avoid swirls. Should I tell him just to wash mine? I sort of got the feeling that I had no choice in the matter. I can't imagine waiting 12 weeks for the car to have it covered in swirl marks.. PS I have noticed that in Queensland dealerships heaps of the Zetecs have Continentals Sports compact 2 tyres, I actually rang the dealer and tried to ensure that mine would have these tyres, he said some come with the Hankooks. I think the continentals are a better tyre having had them on my Polo Gti. What do you think about my pre delivery dilema??

Tyre pressures are good, I live in the country with roads that are made from coarse stones, so it's not the same as city style hotmix. But for example. My daily car is a VP 5 litre with straight through 2.25 twin exhausts, stripped out with NO body deadner or rubber mats lightened carpet etc. And the Fiesta is equal if not louder inside than it on the same road with much more tyre noise (alot less engine obviously but overall the same). Both are silent on smooth roads as you would expect (apart from the engine in the VP grumbling a bit). The Fiesta uses well over 1 litre per hundred more on the roads here than it does on hotmix that's how much extra power (noise) it makes. The roads don't really effect the fuel use on the larger cars, just something I've noticed, not sure it that's just because the Fiesta has not much power or the tyres or both

We have had the Zetec up to Hill End, Sofala, Bathurst, Mudgee, Lithgow, Wollondilly. Some of those have pretty coarse roads.

Check the suspension spacers have been removed ?

We really didn't notice much road noise at all ??

Weird

The dealer may agree not to ash the car but it will still get a predelivery when it gets off the boat at the storage yard. In the end, even if it does end up with swirls from the dealer, any pro detailer can fix it easily.

We had Conti 2's on the GTI. I'd rate the Hankooks ahead of the Conti's.

Question Dealer update for Ipod control ???

Folks

Got a call from the dealer today saying they need to apply an update to the Fiesta.

Something to do with the Ipod control - anyone know what it is all about ?

The dealer didn't know anything other than that it will be done via the USB input ??

I was under the impression that we could use the steering wheel audio controls to work the ipod, but it doesn't work, have to manually do it on the ipod. Could be that?

No, I can control the Ipod with the steering wheel controls in our Zetec.

Once my Ipod is connected, the Ipod controls are locked out

Nope - told them it will have to wait until the next service as I don't have time to get in there. Didn't seem urgent.

Default Scangauge works !

Good news for those that have Scangauge II units

Plugged mine into the port and all the gauges work except the obvious ones (FPR and MAP)

For those that don't know, the port is in the small compartment by the drivers right knee.

Going to look at mounting it tomorrow and set it up for the Fiesta.

Nice

The SG offers a lot more mate than fuel use

RPM logging, timing logging, speed logging, voltage, intake temp, coolant temp, error logging and clearing ...

restrictions:
- 5000 folders per device
- 1000 items per folder
- 8 hierarchy levels

Awesome thanks, so I imagine that is for any device plugged in to the USB port? (memory stick, hard drive, Ipod)

I think it might have issues with NTFS

I can now not get my NTFS drive to work.... :(

However, I did load up a 2nd 8GB thumbdrive to the max with MP3's and it works brilliantly. I added a folder called AA - wifeys favs (makes it show up and play first) and she puts all her favourite songs in that.

Play starts straight away so she gets just what she wants but if she wants to she can scroll to the other thousands of songs on it and select by song.

I didn't bother with album folders as it means more scrolling so put an artists song in top level folder.

Wifey is going to use that instead of the Ipod (no cables and not worried if it goes missing)

Ok cheers Candy.

Haha I like you idea for the wife! Although I think I will be splitting mine up with folders and after what you just said, I think I will stick to a 32GB USB Stick

Sorry, the songs are in folders by artist, just not by album as well as you then need to navigate too much.

Wish it could do it by voice control for individual songs

Maybe a SYNC update in the future
