Since when did RICE turn into a acronym for Race inspired cosmetic enhancement.
I use the term Rice to describe any asian built car because the saying rice I always thought came from the term Rice Burner, which seems to be now called Ricer. So as far as I 'm concerned nothing that is original on a Aussie built car can ever be called Rice!!!!

I may be insane or just completely wrong but I thought the term "RICE" had to do with the main staple diet (stereotypical perhaps) of the culture that produce these so called cars eg: Rice Burners being from Japan...

As mentioned it is testament to Ford designing something so good Holden owners want it (shame it's only the bulge and not the BOSS too). I've seen a couple of the VR/VS variety getting around the ACT.

If it's use on non-BA/BF V8 Falcons is what deems it rice, then the same could be said of the shaker. Oh yes boys and girls, since this was a Mustang scoop added to our beloved XY GTs, and used on countless models as an aftermarket item.....including being added to the bulge on a BA/BF as an aftermarket modification.
I certainly wouldn't say the bulge is rice, just some of the applications are misguided.

if it has the curry to match and is needed for clearance, I don't have an issue with it on any car..
A few pics of a stout X Series car that has the budge grafted to clear the aircleaner Like anything though it is in the application and workmanship that makes the buldge tacky and a RICE mod if it isn't done correctly

Rice is a modified Jap car, my opinion.
I'm not against the V8 bonnet on a 6 either, if Ford had done their job/research/development (etc) properly they may have had a specific 6 and an 8 bonnet. |

if you want to use Doc's explanation of R.I.C.E, then yes, I agree the buldge is becoming rice.
But just like everything else that is R.I.C.E, there is really nothing wrong with it only that the owner of the vehicle has overdone it or applied it to his vehicle in such as way as to portray that vehicle as powerful when in fact it's pathetic. A buldge on a car non-deserving on one, just an embarrassment to the driver I'd say. It's only a matter of time before the buldge joins the ranks of the EB GT, EL GT and EL XR8 scoops and vents on the bonnets on every hyundai excel on the road.

I think the buldge or any mod that can be considered 'rice' is fine as long as it is off set by an appropriate performance mod.
Just like how all these companies claim to be carbon neutral because they plant a few trees to make up for the harm to the environment that they do. The same can be done to cars. If you get a big wing or a buldge simply add a performance exahaust (read performance not just loud) and get a flash tune and you will be rice neutral. For more extreme rice mods like big body kits and those stupid chrome spinny wheels anything less than a quality supercharger set up or simular you would still be in extreme rice territory and open for public riticule...... .....but each to their own. |

HAHAH Killerjoolz, that commy wagon is a crack up. These guys have no taste at all, im not even talking about the bulge, look at that kit!
I personally wouldn't put a bulge on a 6, but, for some reason I dont mind in on any other V8. Sounds a bit hypocritical, but it works in my head. They look great on a say a EB/ED XR8.

Hi,
I have an XR6 NA Ute with the Bulge hard cover, been thinking about putting the bonnet on as well just for the sake of making the car looked balanced. Guess to me it is just about wanting a car that looks a bit different from all the other XR6 utes going around. I do understand the thoughts about it should only be on original cars however if you take that argument to its logical conclusion it would mean that no car should be modified. Surely not something we would want…. Cheers Jeremy

I don't like bulges on cars that don't need them.
It's not that I think it should definitely not be done, but I just don't like the thought of an empty bubble on the front of my car. It would just remind me of what I didn't have. I love them on boss's, and on other things that need them due to modifications etc, but having it on my car for no reason would make me feel funny. It's hard to explain. Though I have nothing against people that do have them. |

Here's another spin,
Im have been thinking of the thought of the fibreglass boss bonnet, for weight reduction. If they made fibreglass regular BA bonnets i would get one of them over the Boss bonnet. I dont see it as rice on other Fords, but on other Brands its rice. |

Ford sell the 6 bonnet for $250 trade and the Boss bonnet $1200 trade. After market Fibreglass company wouldn't compete with the $250 metal bonnet. It's your car put on what you like, you are paying for it..

If its a Ford by all means fit it, my mates looking at putting one on his black AU XR8 UTE and you would have seen the one that has already been done it looks superb, as for the XR6's if you have the turbo you probably going to be going just as fast if not faster so you might as well look as good. If people dont like the Holdens using the XR8 bonnet well you can always use there twin nostrel bonnet. ANY TAKERS!!!

You can try your hardest to deny it but the BA buldge is rice.
Soon we will see more and more excels with them.
