I don't care what people spend on their cars. If people want a big sound system in their car, that's fine with me.

What I hate is when I hear some irresponsible and inconsiderate little bastard driving down my street at 2 or 3 in the morning with their window down, music loud as buggery with the sub blasting. People like that I would love to just get a pickaxe and stick a big hole in that system of theirs.

I bought 2 12 subs and the whole kit and caboodle in my first year of driving.....I didn't have the patience to save up for decent equipment.althought i had some semi decent 6*9's and head unit the rest were mediocre....

I finally started feeling stupid listening to dooffing bass

I would like to start a new system starting with a nice amp and maybe just a 8" or 10" sub of comp specs with comp spec 6" splits

a proper install i love. but when people go over the top with shitty cheap products from the local JB hifi and sound like a big crackling buzzing thunderstorm on wheels, that shits me.

I love the sound system in my EF ghia ...

but anything more than that is money best spent elsewhere

Why spend so much on a system which you have to be in your car to enjoy? I would rather build up a home theater for my home wher i can enjoy all the time. oh i forgot, most of these people with big car stereos still live with their parents.

I'm an audiophile,

Have had systems in all my cars, now I have company cars I have switched to putting them in my wife's car (well I let her drive the Fairmont on weekdays).
I think $20K is acceptable, just like people think $20K is acceptable to spend on an engine.
Each to their own however I hate Autobarn/supercheap fully sik systems powereed by kamakazi brand amps that put out 2 kazillion watts for only $200, installed.
Sound nasty, give the real car audio guys a bad name, and annoy the hell out of me when they cruise past my house at 3.00 a.m.
Christ I spend that much sound deadening a door.So that no one else gets to hear me and I don't get pulled over.
But I appreciate the show systems, they just sound crap, all looks no go and waaaay too many screens to be useful, but they serve a purpose, especially if they are done as Alpine etc demo cars, look at all our new stuff to buy!

but I have noticed the new stuff is way too blingy for my tastes, and is not as sound quality focussed any more, it's aimed at the doof doof brigade.
Priorities are that my V8 is fast enough to get me into trouble now, so I'll spend money on the creature comforts, and the engine can wait till later.

I've never understood the concept of having more than two subs. My brother has one 12" (mid level alpine), and the rest of his system (2 sets of splits, 4 6x9's, 2 6.5's) is deafening, and although it has to work hard, the single sub by itself keeps up well. Why do people need 4, 6 or more subs in the boot with a front stage of only un-amped pioneer splits and some 6x9's on the shelf? Are they only listening to (or rather feeling) the bass???

because they want to look fully sic, and the fact that these 4 subs are underpowered by crappy amps, and would probably be just as loud with 1 fully powered sub.

Ummm nah not my thing at all. I like to listen to music, but I'm not a sound system person.

My car has a good sound system, but I don't really listen to it. I'm over the whole "Doof Doof" thing.

Even in broad daylight sometimes, it's annoying. Especially when it's the same little ***** going up and down, up and down the street.

As said before, Each to their own. I have always had great sound systems in my cars regardless of the fact that they were worth more then the car, (need something in there to make driving a **** box enjoyable) My last system consisted of 2 x 15" woofers and a huge 4000WRMS worth of amps driving them. Pulled 150db in the last soundoff i went in.

The same thing could be said for those who spend thousands on their engines, A stock engine will do all the speed limits just fine why waste money on mods? Cause thats what you enjoy. Dont get me wrong, I like a fast engine currently owning a warm 351 clevo making 400hp (flywheel HP) so i have a foot in both doors,

Its just what you like and enjoy as to what you spend ya cash on.

I have always had a firm opinion about this. People who dont have the skills to tinker with engines, tinker with stereos. And people who have the skills to tinker with engines dont give a ***** about stereos!! 406ci is all the sound I need.

Pfft... car audio can get just as complicated.

[and hence require just as much skill].

Spot on. A good quality system is all about planning, craftmanship, quality components and a great passion for sound. Sure I have about $3.5K of audio components in my car as well, but what it does it does well, reproduce music the way it was meant to be heard, and the way the original recorded artist intended! No huge bass doof doof, just quality deep bass to 20hz and strong midbass and treble up to the limit of audible hearing without having it up max volume. No factory sound system, or poorly installed doof rubbish, or 6 x 9's etc will ever to be able to keep up with that. The youngsters are all about impressing mates with their crap bass and system components, but to me the sound system is JUST as important as the performance of my car. Neither are worthy to be ashamed about. Gotta love it!

Not my idea of a good time. I'll take a car with 5 grand under the bonnet over another with 5 grand in stereo any day.

Well 50 points to anyone who guesses which way i voted.. LOL..

InCar Entertainment (ICE) is quickly becoming more and more a focused part of any show car.. I know myself i tend to be more impressed with the creativity of how someone has managed to fit or in some cases disguise /hide their audio visual system than how they have managed to fit a twinturbo V8 into a mini if ya get wat i am saying..

Cheers,
Nik

lol whats there to understand??

A sound system without any bass sounds anorexic. A system with bass sounds fuller and richer and meatier.

Too much bass ruins the sound tho......

As said different strokes...

I have done a few nice stereo installs (I'm not talking big money either) and it is always a massive satisfaction to me to get such a nice sound/neat install, from little money - the same feeling as when I modify my cars for performance.

You got to look at this from both sides of the fence, people with big dollar engines laughing at people with big dollar stereos don't realize the reverse is probably also happening. In the end he who modifies an engine and he who modifies a car stereo are both car enthusiasts, and that is what matters. Instead of bagging each other out you should be joining forces and bagging bloody Scruby or some other dim witted moron who probably spends all his money on lawn bowls membership

Don’t have a problem with nice sound systems but what I don’t get is when people spend big $$ on one when it’s not a show car.

A guy I Know a guy who has a Monaro and his system is MTX Audio and was worth 5-6K and that was paying cost price on it all, and hell yeah its puts out nice sound but unless you what to be completely deaf buy the time you are 30 you can’t use it at it’s potential.

The Premium sound in the BF Turbo is Good and will keep me happy for now, In the Future all I would like to do is fit a better Sub (In the same place as the factory one) I like the Boot space and possibly some better aftermarket Speakers

Cheers.

I reckon a good head unit, 4 good speakers and maybe a sub is all you need to get a nice sound..

I don't understand how people can listen to their system so damn loud. I'm not old either :

One sub and one amp does the job fine for me and even then I only have it loud enough to get a nice bass sound and still hear myself think.

Buy a V8, best soundtrack around

I love my music, but tend to only really have it up more on long drives, such as on the highway

If I had a big doof doof system I wouldnt turn it up around the local streets anyway, to me it's **** factor and people look at you as if you're a tool anyway

I am in the DGAF catagory . People will spend thier money on what they want to . If they like outragous stereo's in their cars , good on em, as long as they dont expect me to have to yell at someone I am trying to talk to when they are near and pumping it up , all will be ok !

What I realy dont get is , the picture of the yellow RX7 in one of the full page advertisments in streetmachine magazine , with an LCD screen mounted in the middle and ontop of the bonnet facing forward! WTF???????? What possible purpose does it serve ? i think its just pathetic ! But thats just my veiw, and the world would be a sad place if we all agreed on everything huh ???
