Seat Belts!! - Page 2

I feel wierd sitting in the front seat without a belt on.

I find alot of van drivers don't because they work in delivery services and keep getting in and out. I know this as I used to work the same job, however I had my belt on. Alot of drivers got done (alot) for not having their belt on.

They must be mad. Especially being so close to the front windscreen.

Yes i think it was. The moment she started to move she was breaking the law, and now she has paid with her life.And its really simple, we seeit as we are growing up, learn it at school and when we learn how to drive.It saddens me that she has lost her life but then look at what the police not only have to roll up to but the lengths they have to go to on T.V to get their message across for drink driving.

Dose not feel right when you don't wear them but the amount of people you see not wearing them or worst still letting kids stand up in the back seat is just mad .

While it is true that the members of the emergency services have a pretty good idea waht the job is like before they sign the dotted line, there are a couple of issues with your comment. The first is that it does not really matter what your imagination is like, it is hard to prepare for the actual sight of some of the injuries we see and the senseless loss of life that people suffer. The second is that even after many years of service, the sight of someone seriously injured or killed through not using a seat belt is not enjoyable, not when you know if a belt had been worn they would be ok.

Excuse me for my lack of imagination but when was the last time a plumber saw a sight so bad that they needed counselling later. I assume the plumbers guild or whatever has a 24hr counselling service then. Do the comparison, very blocked toilet or 6 yr old girl launched through a windscreen and smeared down the road, which is worse. If you think that we signed up to see that and enjoy it, wake up! This is a good thread as it is making people think about their safety and may save me the grief of scraping up at least one 6 yr old. Be assured that the one thing that amazes me constantly is that people always find new ways to hurt or mame each other, often using cars.

It's one thing to say you wear them but, it's another thing to replace them every ten years... they do break. About 100km/h does it for older cars.

I grew up with a lot of cars that either didn't have them fitted as standard or they were an optional extra. Now I can even put the car in gear with it running without reaching for the belt. Infact I usually have to make a conscious choice notto wear it just to move the car in the driveway.
No-one travels in my cars without a seatbelt or harness correctly worn. Fullstop.

It's funny,after racing a speedway car and wearing a 5 point,3inch harness you feel really insecure in a standard lap-sash style of seat belt,but i DO NOT drive with out it on.
I did survive an accident by not wearing a seat belt once,by being asleep in the back seat.That was a 1 in a million chance though.

The only time I do not wear a seat belt is to move the car from the lawn onto the driveway to mow the lawns. Otherwise it is an automatic reaction. I dont hang around some of my mates because they choose not to wear one, so we dont go out together as much now.

To me is a habit, don't even think about it, just do it.....

Almost as bad as attending a crash where parent(s) were wearing belts and the kids are running (bouncing?) free in the back!
Most often seen in people movers, and strangely enough with Mum driving!

FWIW I used to wear a sealt belt before they became legal (in Vic a looong time ago). Nothing to do with safety then though, the belt stopped me sliding around in the seat in corners
