if you look close (through the body holes ) it appears to be rear engined 4 cylinder east/west powered , 4 stud rear wheels, fabricated box tube chassis. body panels dont look to be of a high quality finish ? or is it just the dust. fake XA GT style bonnet scoops that were common in the late `70s - early `80s . would those headlight holes maybe fit datsun 240z lights.

i will take a wild guess and say it a one off home built job , maybe never finished.

are you looking to buy it ??

only cars i came close to was the detomaso pantera or the masserati ghibli in regards to the rear end and shape of the car

dont think either brand was built or came to australia though

rear end does look viperish but under the dodge name and viper there isnt anything that resembles it.... i checked seriouswheels.com the entire site and anything that was either lates 50's to 80's or some weird name....so dont check there

There are relatively speaking lots of De Tomaso Pantera's in Australia. In fact the 1980's importer (remind me of his name something like Paul Hansford raced them and Lamborghini's) also exported the Australian built Ford 351 to Italy where they were fitted to the Pantera. They are a steel body and nothing like the car pictured. There are also a few Maserati Ghilbi's in Australia also steel bodied and nothing like that.

Paul Halstead was the Pantera importer 351 exporter (see http://realbig.com/detomaso/2001-05/301.html). Jack Nassar ex Ford CEO also had a red Pantera when he was CEO of Ford Aus.

From the look of the finish wasn't anything built in big numbers. I'm leaning toward a kit.

possible except the all the early ones I know of had round headlights and this looks like it was set up for square ones (the later Bolwell Ikara had square lights but looked nothing like the car pictured).

Silouhette from p. 282 "A to Z of Sports Cars 1945-1990" by Mike Lawrence, Bay View Books ,1991 Devon UK.

Paragon Sports Car Photograph by Briers Thomas, Sports Car World Magazine October/December 1984 Edition, Murray Publishers Pty Ltd Sydney NSW

Bigger pics in the Gallery.

The Paragon was made by Swanston and Pariss Industries in Cairns on a VW Type 3 chassis.

PS I searched through most (the years where rectangular headlights came into vogue 'til mid 80's) of my collection of Sports Car World (most copies from 1967 until it folded in 1991) without finding much else looking like that car.

Niether car has NACAR ducts in the bonnet but they may have been fitted later to improve cabin ventilation especially if it is the UK Silhouette.

Nice. Free beer. I was in Darwin in 99 and I took a pic of this little beauty at a fair and reasonable price.

I went back 2 days later, and it was gone. Pity. I had planned on knocking him down to 2 slabs and then drive the car back to NSW. Oh well.

The rear window rules out the Paragon and Silhouette and the 1980 Sabre above looks on the money.

Unless they changed between models (could have considering rear lights) the body lines from door back aren't the same with the sabre..
