Because they did make the right choice. The Mondeo is a better car than the Falcon. Much quieter, much more refined, better built, more comfortable, bigger boot, more fuel efficient, more advanced features ...

And because it's a Ford. It's like footy, once you follow a team, you don't jump ship. I like all Fords, I don't care where they come from as long as it's a Ford. Ecosport aside, the current Ford offerings in each class are at or near best in class.

Here's to continued success for the blue oval

Really? Maybe better than a BF Fairmont but an FGx G6E still trumps a Mondeo.

No comfort wise you can't beat the Falcon, then we have performance and drivability. Not everyone needs adaptive cruise control and heated seats. Don't get me started on the aircon!

I'm quite proud of it. Will mondeo spares, fixes, and forums be around for decades? No. The work mondeo I put a few kms on was as souless and lacking in character as a camry. Sure they are great appliances, do their designed function well, but just like a busted toaster you throw it out and get a new one. It doesn't feel part of the family and no kids go to high school graduations in first gen camrys.

Falcons are used to tow... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I cycle past boat raps all the time & never see Falcon's (or Commodore) parked in there with empty boat trailers. No-one bought a Falcon in the year 2016 for towing.. Your just living 10-20 years in the past when Falcon's actually sold well.

Whoops. I guess I have inadvertently started a war.

Falcons aren't bad cars, I'm not saying that at all. They are terrific all rounders and long distance cruisers. I'm just tired of people picking on imported Fords just because they aren't made here. A Ford is a Ford, it doesn't matter where it's made, it wears the same badge and is part of the Ford family.

I get that comfort is subjective, but I think the Mondeo's seats are way better shaped and gives better support around corners than in any Falcon I've driven - though I've never driven a GT-P with those awesome seats. It's also easier to get the perfect driving position in the Mondeo.

But this I must pick up on. The Mondeo is living proof that FWD mid size cars can be fun to drive. It handles with precision, yet has a plush and absorbent ride. It's a family car with a sense of humour and loves corners, and is also a seriously good looker. It's no hot hatch, but among mid sizers, the Mondeo is one of the best.

The Camry? Now that's an appliance, and looks like one too. The two just aren't comparable.

Our mondeo is quite comfortable...been on many hokidays with it. Drivability? Did fine...handle twistys and freeways without drama.

I love Falcons....but to say that an FGX G6E is BETTER than a brand new Mondeo......ah no.

You may like it better....that's fair enough.

An interesting view. So, you are happy to be prejudiced against Ford for not manufacturing here (along with everyone else) but your only other option is a fully imported vehicle anyway with no input of any kind from Australia.

Cheers

And you have driven both have you?

Im basing my comments on the fact I have driven both. The Mondeo is a good hack car but has no soul. On a long highway trip with overtaking, comfort etc a G6E smacks it.

Plus the Mondeo aircon is woeful! Built for European conditions not Australia.

Its not a recall. It a service campaign.

Go have a look at the real recalls on them over the last 10 years

If its still going at the end then WOO!

Its still effectively the same car built on the same Korean chassis. All they have done is added some fruit to keep people interested.

Just make sure you over service it and flick it when its out of warranty and you will be fine.

Have you driven a Titanium Kuga for any length of time or distance? I guarantee you will feel like your driving a VW Kombi when you jump back in the Captiva. There is a reason why they are dearer and as for the electronic gizmos the Captiva comes up a bit short.

I have driven both and the MD Titanium Mondeo was my choice.

I'm loyal to Falcon but on this occasion, my head won over my heart. Too many people are going the other way and letting their judgement be clouded to save face in front of others here.

For those interested, I've posted a bit of a dimensions comparison between the current crop of Ford models and their predecessors at various points throughout the past 40 years or so.

It's a bit of a high level look but does show a few things worth knowing.

Cheers
