I put it to you it was government policy which caused the demise of the automotive sector, from both sides of politics. Tell me again how these FTA's have benefited the workers of Australia? Where Obama said there was nothing the government could do to stop manufacturing from leaving the US and going overseas, Trump has made Obama look like a fool, a lame duck President.

They never made money, maybe a few years of small profits and it was us the tax payer that kept the car's coming which I didn't mind as employment keeps the economy rolling, but now it got to a point where the product being produced was no longer being purchased, hence why would you spend money on building it.
Blame who ever we like but If this was my money I wouldn't spend it like this, I doubt you anyone would spend your family's money on a product that no one buys or doesn't return a profit after huge outlays of money. The debate well go on forever at the end of every financial year it's Sales speak volumes. 2014 Toyota reported they are losing $2500 on each of the 70,000 Camry's they export Middle East annually and they have had $1.2 billion in tax payer assistance over the last decade. I don't know how many of you read this article, $7000 paid by the tax payer for each 4cyl Falcon built. ''Confidential figures obtained by News Corp Australia reveal that, in addition to $7000 for every four-cylinder Falcon sold — up to 20 per cent of the purchase price'' http://www.news.com.au/technology/in...ce99b925b19800 These numbers are a few years old. Government funding (2001 to 2012): Holden: $2.17 billion Toyota: $1.2 billion Ford: $1.1 billion Annual average (2001 to 2012): Holden: $180 million Toyota: $95.8 million Ford: $87.8 million Cars made locally in 2012: Holden: 85,000 Toyota: 101,500 Ford: 37,000 Average taxpayer dollars per car built in 2012: Holden: $2117 Toyota: $944 Ford: $2372

How can one single man stand up to Ford? Impossible. The president has limited powers - any proposed bill would have to pass through the house of representatives, for starters. Trump is all talk.

He is doing it by political pressure just by talking/Tweeting about it. The power of influence.

Back on topic, Ford being nimble & pro active is nothing new, its great news for unemployed US auto workers! Proudly Made in USA is a gold standard in quality, a major selling point to potential customers globally. Hybrid Mustang is interesting, hope its a success for Ford! cheers, Maka

4.5 billion to Toyota (Japan) and Ford and Holden (USA) of taxpayers money to build cars in Australia and they squandered it.
The FTA agreements between Australia Japan and USA are still helping them. |

The Ford Focus thing is a terrific case in point - Ford makes their decision, and Trump piggybacks on it with a single tweet. He actually did nothing to influence the decision.

Its not simple. Falcon fans are a small drop in the ocean in global political and business ideals.

It's also worth noting that Abbott/Hockey government DID actually 'stand up' to the Australian manufacturers... and the manufacturers said yep, no worries, and killed local production.
Careful what you wish for, eh?

Ford announced their withdrawal before the Abbott govt came into power...
Fact is, the GFC forced Ford to clean out its closet, the 'One Ford' philosophy spelt the end of Falcon/Territory and it wouldn't have mattered if they were still good sellers, they still would have gone. No Falc/Terri = no manufacture in Aust, GM followed the same path with dropping the Aussie Commodore and Toyota AU, being in the best position (essentially 'One Toyota') had to follow suit as they share the same suppliers whom would also shrink/disappear. I seriously doubt the AU govt. could have done anything about it even if we had Donald running the place. |

So much negative criticism of Trump and he isn't in office yet. But let's point out Obammy's greatest achievement-
What? There isn't any you say? Oh he legalised the choice of toilets for trannys??? That's it??? In 8 years??? I think Trump will do better than that... |

Much of these so called accomplishments are nothing more than socialism and cultural Marxism posted up on a website and labelled 'accomplishments'. The rest are just day to day bureaucratic workings of office. Hardly accomplishments...

several 400 list I found had been a cry to get people out and look past academic and media position and still vote LEFT.
Well the common sense crowd listened, came out and voted for the left to have a short time out and gave them time to reflect. I cant see how this can be called post truth, My mum would call it overdue. On international radio reports It was claimed that more high skilled educated graduates needed to build these small hybrids etc. Mexican production was to replace chineese imports.

Of course the best way to disprove these claims would be to actually look at the US share prices last Friday.
