Just referring to bits out of the article - "It's not just our history and our heritage in this country," he said. "We are keeping our world-class design centre in Melbourne. We are keeping our proving ground at Lang Lang. We will have more than 300 designers and engineers here in Australia."
I'm curious to know what will Ford be keeping when they finally close their production doors in Australia? With their decision to ditch "Along with the Commodore, what will also go is what Bernhard admits is the company's "blokey" image. No more "football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars", as the famous jingle went. New brand ambassadors include actress Claudia Karvan, chef Luke Nguyen and fashion entrepreneur Jane Lu". When I first say their new advert on tv I thought what the hell are these lot doing talking as if they love the cars ? It looked like a photo shoot. At least put them in the cars driving them ! Stupid stupid advertising. That jingle was their history. They should have merged new with old. Well I hope the cars are quality, but I'm more interested in what is happening at Ford. |

G'day ..Holden via this thread and Ford of course elsewhere are a huge loss to our identity..It's okay for us to say 'it was inevitable '..'been living on borrowed time '... 'only existed because of the grace of parent companies' etc etc..
true enough ..can't be denied BUT...Ford and Holden have a soul that quite frankly none of the import only car manufacturers have. Not even Toyota still building here has that level of passion either.. We loved or hated Blue Oval or Red Lion as a tribal thing but we also have a respect for each other despite the joking and ribbing that goes on. Why's that I think is because of the strong Aussie links both companies used to be identified for and us versus the world.. In the every day family car builders I couldn't give a rats about Hyundai , Kia , Subaru , SSang Yong , Mitsubishi since they left OZ , Mazda ,Honda , Jeep etc etc etc...They don't define this vast country of ours like Ford and Holden did for so long..They never will most likely..Re Tribal...You're a Ford fan OR a Holden fan..no-one else really matters..That's the beating heart and soul of our soon to be former car industry and if you say otherwise you're plain unadulterated wrong.. If you have kids growing up now , feel happy for yourself that you enjoyed being able to buy an Aussie 'built for the country' car but for those kids feel a certain disappointment that they won't have that choice.. Not unless one day in the future some clever Australian designs and builds " Australia's Own ' car not beholdin' to a parent company somewhere...You never know except no more big V8's and 6's perhaps ..Cheers Rod.. And if anyone thinks that Holden and Ford will maintain engineering and product development facilities beyond 2020-22, you're sorely mistaken.

In recent years it unfortunately dragged down the image of Ford as a whole in the minds of most punters, which is wrong, because the rest of the Ford breed is a catalog of amazing, dynamic, well presented and desirable word class cars which truly rival Mazda, VW, or Skoda and the like, and they do not deserved to be overlooked because Ford is "the taxi car company'. These cars are the shining jewels that will be left after the Falcons departure, real Fords, built to be Fords, by Ford engineers and Ford factories across the world. Its a brighter future for brands image. Holden on the other hand, had one shining jewel - Commodore. When it is gone, Holden will be but a name, a name which will adorn a slapdash line up of absolute sh1tters from GM catalogs across the world. There is no such thing as a Holden, what will be left is just an importer who sells no frills Korean rebadges. Holdens absolute willingness to pin everything they had on the commodore to beat everthing around them was their greatest win, and their greatest mistake. With their flagship Commodore gone, all is left is a line up of awful cars, none of them even close to topping their class, while Ford are left with some of the most brilliant european and aussie engineered (even if not built here) metal we have ever seen behind the blue badge. Holden is really screwed, and it must be getting harder and harder for their PR guys to spin something positive out of the fact that their cars post Commodore will probably only just be better than the Chinese brands. |

Not all of the 1500 they are keeping are engineers.

Recent vehicles have smoke emission controls. Im told they have invisible non toxic smoke in the wiring with large filter in the ECU.
I have not seen many lately with uncontrolled heat release or melted piping. Just the normal wont work. I like my D-MAX. My Land Rover is a hard top so the smoke is slower to release. I replaced the radiator fan with a 180W Electric radiator fan this week and it ran out of battery.
