Yeah fair call and a good idea, I'll see them tomorrow after work, they are a pretty good mob, they are probably unaware of it.

Don't go in there yelling and acusing people because then they will have their backs up right away, no one wants to deal with aggressive people pointing fingers.

Just go in there and show them, seems to be missing engine number and its going to be a issue with the state road authority nazis for RWC and registration issue.

Yeah I'm not like that, I'll just say I was trying to cross reference the engine number on the block with the engine number on the paperwork to notify motor reg about an engine change and found that there was no engine number.

Say you couldn't find the engine number where you thought it was supposed to be and could they help you find it.

There is a Holden dealership near where I work, I might call in during my lunch hour and ask them where the engine number is because i can't find it. Then see what they say and go and see the installer after work.

Just do this tomorrow morning. Dont beat around the bush going to Holden etc.

Let the people who supplied the engine show you where the engine number is, so you can then show your registration authority. If they can't, get them to change it to a motor where the engine number is visible.

One question that comes to my mind is if there is no engine no. on your block where did the engine no. on your receipt come from?

That question might be worth asking if they can't point you to the engine number location when you take it back to them.

I still want to see how Holden react and what they have to say.

Is the engine running?
Do you have a written warranty?
If you answered yes to these questions move on with your life? Do you really have that much spare time that you need to be running around worrying about such petty ****?

And if I have trouble registering it or try to sell the car and the buyer has an RAA inspection........I don't consider a missing engine number a petty thing........why was it removed in the first place.......is the bigger issue!

Not sure where you are or what happens in other states but in Victoria you are simply issued a new engine number by VicRoads.
Or you can jump up and down and start writing letters in crayon to Holden. Remember to use capitals ok.

You wouldn't be concerned if you had just paid for a changeover engine and it had no engine number on the block so you had no idea of whether it is what you paid for (ie a 2004 engine or an old VS engine from 1995 instead?)

I think Most people would!
I will probably just go down and see the installer and chat to him about it, he is probably unaware of it and may be an issue with his supplier, as I said they are not a bad mob from what I've seen, which is why I went to them in the first place!

What if the cops pull me over and decide to check these things?
"Crayons and Capitals" LOL

They'll probably tazer you and tell all their mates how you squealed like a pig.
And no, as long as it was running I wouldn't be that worried about a missing/rusty/dirty engine number.

Go back to where you bought it and see what they say first. If you go to a Holden dealer first, what will you do if they say it may be stolen and inform the police before you have a chance to get it sorted with the fitter?

So how would Vicroads, police whoever supposed to decipher it then when they try to check it? What would their reaction be? I bet they wont just say "No problem mate,..."

I don't think so, they are quite nice people, I have no intention of telling anyone where I got the engine, but I will speak to the installer about it. If I went to Holden I wouldn't be telling them who sold me the engine and nor would ui be telling anyone on here!

Probably a stolen motor.

I would get it replaced with one that is legit.

Yes that crossed my mind....Holden calls the cops who turn up with a tow truck

I think I will just go and talk to the fitter and see what he says!

Agreed but i will have to be a bit diplomatic, I can't say "hey mate can you swap the engine over with one that isn't stolen"

I will ask him about the engine number issue tomorrow, he is probably not aware of it as I said before and has been there for years.

I will speak to them in person tomorrow I'm sure it's an oversight they are not aware of, they are really nice people and i wouldn't like to think that this thread could come back on them in anyway even if I haven't said who or where they are.

First I will approach them in person and take it from there, thanks everyone for your comments both positive and negative

It's possible that all the mechanic will do is stamp the block with the engine number that is on your receipt and send you on your merry way.
Still up to you if you can accept this as being legit.
