Id be happier is 'He' showed up in a standard car with the odd carpark ding than a lime yellow falcon hoon mobile with painted red calipers. The later shows her 'date' is a megalomaniac judgemental fella who seems to have an inordinate care for what others think of him yet still drives a cheap beacon to questionable taste.

Hulk, are you the young 'guy' in question, had a few fathers look down at you in a previous life, spent a bit of time feeling you were being judged?
Dad didn't dig it when you touched her in 'that' car?
let it out, were here to help!

i agree with you on the beaten up car thing, i had a beat up old $ 400 corona that i used to carry work stuff and leave at the depot, it was a wonderful daily, you could park it anywhere and not give a continental.

I dont think there is a set rule here, its about what you think you can get away with without being judged unfavourably. Would you buy a car with the same damage that is on your car?
What if you rocked up in an immaculate, freshly polished Mercedes? He might think you're a materialistic ****** with an unrealistic pursuit of perfection.
It can't be much fun spending your time worrying what others might or might not think.

My policy on dings and dents goes like this...

Be choosy about where I park. Especially at work, I try to park in spaces with plenty of room either side, and next to other all-day workers.

If something did happen, if possible, I would do what I can to come to an agreement to have them repair the damage.

I don't want to have noticeable damage on my car, because I take pride in it's condition and like to have it looking decent. My car isn't for impressing other people, it's for my own enjoyment. If others like it as well, that's a bonus!

I park in disabled spots or miles from any other car to avoid any damage. Otherwise I'd fix it I think. Never happened tho!

If I was that worried about what people would think of me with every single scratch, dent or blemish on my car, I would never drive it. It's probably the reason why I didn't bother buying a BMW or Audi when I had the chance. I would be more concerned about typical people not caring about my car when they park in the first place than what others thought of me with the dents in there after!

I try and keep my Subaru as blemish free as possible. But you cannot control every single person who comes within 10m of your vehicle. You have to get on with life. Yes it's annoying when someone hits/scratches or dents it. But for me, Im more annoyed with the amount of time I have to sacrifice looking for a repairer than due to some knob neighybor down the road who couldn't give 2 poo's if there was a dent in my car or not.

If you are that insecure and petty that you base your own life/car choices on what others think of you, then I feel really sorry for you and your family who have to put up with that. Because honestly, that is not living and I have better things to worry about that than a few dents and scratches and any perceived thoughts by others.

I got a few cars...

1- The hack that I can't be bothered selling - park it anywhere, put the cheapest E10 into it and after several years of such treatment I think you would struggle to find a straight panel anywhere. Haven't seen it for a few months, good mate is driving it around lol.

2- The Mr's new car. Not a dent in sight due to careful parking and learning from her mistakes (car 1 used to be hers).

3- I'm currently driving another hack... park carefully but am not fussed if I get a dent or scrape.

If I had a newer car I would wait till a few dents were made then get the PDR guy out to straighten em out. If I had a scrape or scratch i would get it repaired.

Any one who judges another based on what they drive is just plain dumb. I know a few millionaires that drive around in clapped out older cars and a few owners of prestige cars who don't own a thing nor have a cent to their name (including their fancy car)...

What gets me is the following two scenarios.
#1 You stop at the lights and the car behind doesn't stop in time and gives you enough of a nudge to put a small dent in your bumper and take off some paint. In this circumstance you can exchange details and claim it on the insurance of the person person that hit you.
#2 You are parked in the shopping centre sitting in the car and another car parks beside you and the driver flings the door open to get out creating a dent in your door. You both get out he says sorry and walks off. You can't exchange details, and it would be a nightmare to claim on insurance.
The damage in both cases could be the same in $$$ value but in #2 there is nothing you can really do about it.

I move on till I find a better spot.
At the end of the day both of my old limos are pretty straight, with a few minor blemishes, if they had dents they would be getting fixed, as for slight hard to see imperfections , id rather wait until its time for a full spray than doing patchups.
I until recently did similarly.
My car is not everydayer so I would try to avoid even parking out in public. Just get my wife to run inside to pick up whatever she needed while I drove around til she rang me to pick her up.
Last few months I've had to park my car in a CBD carpark due to my van being too tall.
I park on the top undercover floor away from everyone.
There may only be 2 or 3 cars on that level at earlybird parking times.
I still park part way into next slot giving anyone who parks next to me enough room to fully open their door.
Fingers crossed, no damage yet.

When I see dents on a nice car, I don't judge the poor owner, I lay judgement on the $&@;:/-,; that may have done it. ( cos when you have a nice car, it's never your fault hey.... )

Dings and dents suck. Try to park as far away from any other cars is all you can do. If you do cop one, get it fixed if it bothers you.

This is what happened to my old BF XR6T in a public car park, the mongrel drove off and I was left to pay the insurance excess...

If t’s a large dent I will have it repaired but if minor I live with it. I posted up a while ago a large dent that was done to my wife’s Mazda 3, It was too visible so paid $200 to have the dent fixed by dent remover but very happy with the outcome.
