XD-F centre fuel filler behind the number plate. Definately one of their top ideas.

I miss the fact that owning a new falc used to be cool and they were plentiful on the roads. Apparently now it's cool to be a rebel bad dad and buy a Camry RZ.....
I don't miss some of the agricultural electrics , like on my old XE ESP. The door trim used to flex out when you kept your finger on the power window switch and the windows would reach their upwards closed limit..... The sticky under dash handbrake and the flex in the chassis when you would jack the car up. Ouch !!! |

With an update interval of 5 seconds & +/- 5KM error margin.... I can't say that's on my miss list.

Fuel filler behind number plate - you could pull into any bowser on either side.
Column Shift Auto. Station Wagon with fold flat seat. Another for the Cold Face/ Warm Feet Combo Centre-Fold Seat, would have been awesome with factory lap/sash belt. Distributors. Ignition leads I could change without hiring a contortionist. Things I don't miss: Horn on the indicator stalk. Wipers on the dash-board. lap belts only in the centre seats. Body Roll. Power-Steering that caused you to change lanes when you sneezed.

Having just got a ZL as a weekender I have an quite a few it seems of the good and the bad...
The best feature ever tho was on a XR Fairmont that I used to own so many years ago... Was the windscreen wiper pedal under the dash that you activated the wipers with when you wanted a quick wipe... Was truly epic at the Drive Inn with a bunch of mates and the wipers start by themselves (great during a horror flick).....

4 cigarette lighters in the upspec models may have been useful to some, but I don't smoke so I don't really miss them.

But think of the many and varied electrical devices you could charge/run on all those sockets!! (particularly if used in conjunction with double adapters)... Until the wiring loom spontaneously combusted of course...

I liked the power/vacuum guage on dads XE while learning to drive.
Kept it in the power zone mostly... Also liked the 6 seats for cruising around with girls, drive in etc... |

I miss:
- The rawness of the GT. - The sound of a 351 Cleveland or Windsor at full song. - The Muscle Car Era. - The Production Car Racing of the late 60's and early 70's and the Group C Era. I don't miss: - 16:1 manual steering on the GT's. - The Sagging doors on a 2 door Hardtop. - And those bloody door handles that break on the XD's and XE's. |

Best feature of the past:
Vision, older cars had smaller blind spots and were easier to judge when parking(xa-xc coupes excluded) Xd-Xf central fuel filler A key, I hate this keyless start crap No chimes, buzzers, beepers etc Basic electronics, easy to fix and/or modify Watts link **** end The sensation of speed, do a 14s pass in a 70s car feels like a 12s pass in a modern car The Bad Rust Drum brakes Lack of power, brakes & handling when compared to modern cars Fuel efficiency Fan belt squeal Hovercraft noise from the clutch fan
