What infringements?? It's a minor traffic crash, no infringements get issued, has always been like that, has never really changed in the last 20 or 30 years.
How would police issue an infringement without having witnessed the incident?? Minor non injury crashes where both vehicle are drivable do not get investigated by police, and police do not allocate fault, it is not a police matter, requires no police involvement and police have no interest in getting involved as they can't do anything about it, as they have no legislation to deal with it. Fatal crashes, injury crashes and major crashes where one or more vehicles get towed will be investigated and if possible the at fault driver will be fined or charged depending on the outcome of the investigation. This still does not guarantee that the insurance company will agree with the police investigation and any damages and repairs and costs involved are again not a police matter. Police investigate crimes and beaches of the law, not financial compensation and losses. Anything outside that scope is a civil matter between the persons involved in the incident.

Gees your cops are slack.
In WA we MUST report all traffic accidents where damage exceeds a fairly low value, and you can still report even for less. Granted though, if the ONLY damage was a headlight, it doesn't sound like much of a bingle. |

No need to report a minor crash in NSW.
You can report it and the cops will make a record of it or you can go to police station and complete the self reporting form and submit it. However police do not allocate fault as it would be impossible to do without getting witness statements, and going to the scene of the crash. This is where dash cameras would be handy, as it would prove that she reversed into the stationary car, rather that the other driver driving into the back of it.

She didn't use the magic word, and no it is not please anymore.
"The other party hooned backwards around the corner" would have resulted in instant ninja police abseiling from surrounding buildings

The coppers were on my door because I had made no attempt to contact the other party and she didn’t have an address for me. Apparently the only details that were left at the scene were may name, licence number and from what I was led to believe, my suburb. The old biddy didn’t even get a phone number so she rang the cops. So technically, whoever damaged her car most likely, at the bare minimum, complied with the law accept for the "minor" detail of it being the wrong information. The coppers didn’t know that false details were left at the scene. This was only discovered after I “rather impolitely” told them, and then they made their enquires. Now if the two knuckle dragging Neanderthals had have spoken to me like any other member of the community instead of just assuming that I was a career criminal, we would have gotten to the bottom of it a lot sooner. So, I’ll ask again, why were the coppers at my door for a civil matter or is it that you just can’t accept that sometimes cops get involved in things that they might not “technically” have to?

What's got me is that the Police Ppolice matters such as speeding etc ... definitely involved - even when there is no victim.
But in cases like this they are less involved ... where there IS a victim. |

sorry if im reading this wrong as it still looks the same to me,You just answered it yourself again.. The "old biddy" would be aware the wrong information most likely from a mismatch of you details to description of the vehicle, so then it becomes a Police matter for investigation. ie identity thief or fraud. They needed to confirm it wasn't you/ or issue you with a court summons. Do you see the difference now between a Civil Matter and a Police Matter?
