There's a lot of drivers who go out of there way to get in front of L/P drivers for some reason. As you said you're already most of the way there as a driver, and you did the right thing. Just suck it up, it's gonna happen a LOT and all you can really do is wave it off and go on your way.
Lots of replies regarding driving like everyone else is an idiot - it works, if you ride a motorcycle it's the only way to stay alive and it translates well to cars. I got cut off by a fat ugly lesbian this morning (just saying it like it was, few who'd seen her and the rainbow sticker on the back of her doghair-filled sh!theap would argue) and all I could do was think "thank f%^$ there won't be any more of you to hit the roads in the future" and go on my way ; )

ELtim has made a very good point. when i was on my L's (9 months ago) i had been driving since i was 10, and no i don't live in the country. when you have your L's showing some people will do anything just to get i front of you. it is a different story when you don't have your L's showing. you are treated like any other person on the road. (i know it's illegal to not show them, but hey, i did it anyway just not to get treated like what ELtim has described)

Just out of interest. I have been taking my daughter out to get her hours in. When driving my 302 ute (with L plates) she gets a lot more crap. People cutting her up and sounding horn etc than when driving the (gulp) Suzuki swift. Peoples perseption of what your driving seems effect the way they drive around you. In a nice car they want to race/show off. Crap car, no-one gives a toss. Here in WA anyway.
That said, my advice, just treat every one else on the road as an idiot. Never trust turn indicators and above all bewair of people driving with hats on! |
