And a further 10% are still registered interstate to avoid paying the higher costs. A bit of enforcement on the issue and their wouldn't need to be the hike.

jeez, Hunter, you are doing a great job of making a whole lot of sense on a topic that is all too easy to go for the 'a current affair' angle (after all, its always SOMEBODY'S FAULT, ya just gotta find WHO to BLAME : ).
Keep up the good work there buddy. |

They should give you a discount if you are the registered owner of more than 1 car...
I have 2 x v8's to register, nearly a quick $2k each year for me....

As long as Fuel stays cheapish I have no problems with the hike. $50 extra over 12 months is better then paying $1.50p/L at the bowser over 12 months.

hunter you can put as much spin on it as you like but the truth is that bligh and her goons are economically retarded and have driven this state into the ground and we are paying for it. as for your argument that v8's weigh more and use more fuel is ridiculous. an average v8 weighs between 1600 and 1900 kg's, a 4 pot between 1200 and 1400k's [approximately] .fill the 4 pot up with 5 adults, fuel and luggage and it weighs as much as a v8 [my 2008 civic-1900kg's]. as for the fuel, gst+fuel excise= more than my fare share of tax. if you don't believe me do the sums. cheers.

I'd say the rising rate of rego per cylinders is simply a crude way of approximating the OWNER's CAPACITY TO PAY. Its been like that for donkeys so is not likely to change for the better now. The way the world is turning green, expect it to get WORSE for big capacity engines.
In terms of us paying for the economic management (or mismanagement) of Governemnts, that is absolutely correct. We as taxpayers do wear the results of our elected representatives efforts to manage the Government's finances. If the Government needs to balance its budget (for what ever reason it got unbalanced in the first place), the issue is who pays - either through which tax gets increased or which service gets reduced - there ain't a 3rd way... If you don't like the choices the Govt makes, well you get to vote every 3 years and in the meantime, feel free to write a letter to your local MP and point out where they are going wrong - cause if we don't tell them, they won't know. |

In Western Australia rego is based on the weight of the car. NO BS!!! So, an auto model of the same car costs more than a manual !!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF does weight have to do with it???? 6cyl & V8's pay more for fuel because of usage so that gives the Gov't more $$ anyway. The weight issue goes back to when roads were built from products that broke down easily and heavier vehicles caused more damage to them,so to cover repair costs they made motorists' pay.We have a 4 cyl shopping trolley,a V8 Sprint and my V8 Chrysler(fortunatly on historic rego)

Maybe instead of being charged $900 odd for your registration, maybe the Qld government could scrap the 8c / litre fuel subsidy?
It would cost how many millions to keep feeding that scheme. Surely that is a better option?

Qld is also putting up boat registrations supposedly to pay for more facilities like ramps etc, I will be amazed if one is built north of Brisbane...
The tax on Casino poker machines has also doubled from 10 to 20% And a few weeks back the "Penalty Unit" went from $75 to $100, this covers many crimes. If a penalty was 10 Units for example, the fine is now $1000 not $750 like before. It's getting expensive... |

check out the courier mail 16/12/08 they have compared the rego cost's of every state and qld is by far the dearest.
current cost's in qld-4 cylinder $218.55, 6 cylinder $355.90, v8 $470.35 NT-4 cylinder $48,vic 6 cylinder $193, nsw v8 [2nd dearest] $383. try and put some spin on that. and that's not including next years increases.

how can you blame Insurance this time, have a look at your rego reminders and you will see the insurance only went up ten dollars 2 months ago but rego went up $40,no mention of this on news, now less than 4 months later we get about same increase and news media make a big deal (as they should)did no one notice the last increase?
