The V6 is no longer viable due to conversion rate on dollar being so bad for imports. Great news for Ford Australia!

And Good Riddance! Best straight 6 in the world today and they persist with their wheezy asthmatic torque-less 3.5l v6. Pfff...

What is it going to take for FoMoCo to export this f**ker??? Especially now that the AUD is worth bugger all.

To get the engine Euro compliant it was only a question of money. The balance between spending and seeing a return for such a small volume didn't add up.

Such an announcement has far greater implications towards the medium term survival of the Falcon platform.

The question now remains where does that leave the V8?

Great news for the people of Geelong.

It also enables Ford Australia to continue to operate independently of Ford US. Ford Australia will rely on Ford Europe for Mondeo, Fiesta as well as Focus development but will not be reliant on the incredibly troubled US division which is probably a good thing.

On a cynical note, it also keeps Ford Australia as a full-service manufacturer able to do everything from design through to manufacture. Might be handy if Ford US feel they need to "flog-off" some subsidiaries to keep the US lights burning!

Absolutely fantastic news. The best news out of Ford for a long time. Congrats to Ford Australia team for getting this approved and I hope there are a lot of happy Geelong workers today.

Not till I speak to my source next.

All the info I knew hinged on the V6, not the I6. I'll know more over the weekend.

Just a tidbit - this has been under review since Burela took over. Cobra is right, him being from Geelong, he had to try and save 'old faithful'.

Yep you are correct, the only thing we need to worry about is it heading back up V the $USD... if it does in the short term the whole thing could do another back flip..

The fact a V6 from the states has become non cost effective.. what will that do for our Future V8 prospects?

Can we Kiss a crate Engine goodbye and keep re-investing in the Boss?

(Yes i know where the block & heads comes from..)

Great news. Regarding the currency issue - going back a couple of years who would have thought the AUD would reach 98 cents, and then 62 cents within such a short time. The strength of our economy vs the USA surely suggests it won't stay at 62 cents, we can't base decisions on today's rate.

The most interesting thing is whether there will be any export program to increase the engine volume? Not sure on that one, hopefully a diesel Falcon/Territory will help there.

Now thats some refreshing news, for FoA and its employees... Looks like the bean counters found it justifiable to keep the I6..
Well at least its good to see the V6 will go nowhere near an aussie made Falcon!!!

with a revised gas engine i assume a minimum of SVI if not liquid injection. could we see a turbo LPG engine with a 6 speed ? just dreaming I know but it would be a seller awesome power with the running cost of a 4 banger

Yes exactly.. what you gain in one hand we may very well loose in the other....
If we loose the V6 we may also loose any chance of a V8 too...

I wouldn't wite off the V8 but there is no doubt that Ford in Australia and overseas will demand that any V8 program for Falcon must meet stringent financial return hurdles. It it can't pay for itself plus make a return Ford may decide to ditch the V8 and use the funds where they can make an acceptable return (LPG upgrade, weight saving program etc)
