It begs the question, why would HSV bother with 7.0l/380kw when they only need 307kw to remain as the "leader"? it doesnt give them far to move in the future with new models to make such a large jump in one hit, especially when the competition hasnt moved much..
Where would the incremental sales come from? Its not like they need something to beat FPV with.

When they introduced the 300kW 5.7litre engine in 2000, they were above and beyond the leader with the 250kW Clubsport, to which the 220kW AUII TE50 wasn't really a challenge. And then that remained unchanged for four years.

Thats fine, but 380KW?? seriously, why not 320 or 330KW? 380KW leaves you very little room to move in the future...
GTS is a joke really HSV have stuffed the GTS brand up by allowing the clubsport to have the same power output, and by discounting the cost of the product well below the earlier 300KW offerings...

HSV are going to bring out the GTHO to beat ford to the punch. And yes. It will be a 14 litre supercharger v48 motor.

HSV seem to have a thing about comparing their cars to Germany's best, so 380kw GTS vs a 375kw M5 may, in their eyes, sway some more buyers.

Perhaps if they do hit 380kw on the GTS only, this will reinstate the GTS brand as the Aussie performance leader.

Ive said it before and i'll say it again.. i can't ever see an M5 customer "lowering" their standards to buy a commodore... regardless of its power tag! Image is everything to people with that kind of coin... and being seen as a "bogan" isnt high on the list!

I don’t think there is any doubt that they will be doing something special to celebrate their 20th anniversary. They have registered some product names that have yet to see the light of day so it will probably be one of those.
The 7 litre engine seems to be high on their to do list so it could be that but I doubt it will be the LS3 just yet. HSV seem to think they need more on the LS2 to pay for the VE development.
You do have to wonder a bit with the logic of using the LS7 while it requires so much specialised attention. Best guess on when that engineering would be complete is in fact next year. The common thought seems to be that working the LS2 would give a far more economic return than that provided by the LS7, given the small volume planed that is.
However I don’t think there would be much argument that as far as halo cars go for the General the LS7 gives them a pretty good starting point. Should be interesting to say the least.

BMW M5 = 373kW
Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG = 378kW
New RS6 = 426kW
Next Cadillac CTS-V = 377kW.

Seems to only make sense to follow the rest of the category?

Remember in 2000... the M5 had 294kW and E55 had 265kW.

There are plenty of people who would, who would buy domestic if there is an equivalent offering. And the fact is, back in 2000 the GTS300 was a faster car full stop then the E39 M5. If they can do that again, for half the price, why wouldn't it be a success?

Look at the Corvette Z06 in America compared to the Porsche 911 Turbo, Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo. It costs half of what they do, has about the brand-image a HSV does here, and is a huge success because its a performance equal.

Back in the early 70's, Ford Australia introduced the the GTHO with 380hp, it was the fastest production sedan in the world!!...hell they even had the GT40 500hp 7.0L monster that beat the Ferrari's 4 years in a row!!

One things for sure, Holden/HSV will never achieve what Ford did back then...

Ford really should bring the Mustang's to Australia, they could easily pit the Shelby GT500 against the GTS-R or whatever they end up calling their 7.0L offering...then Holden will counteract and import the Z06 and then we'll have a real horsepower war on our hands...again. :

Well my butt is fine so far, and the VE ute -well inside it's not as big as it has been made out to look. Still feels a lot smaller in the cabin compared to my AU.

Otherwise its a nice looking car, front end obviously being exactly the same as the sedan, rear end looks good but sits way too high - the one I was in was an SS ute in that new bright green colour and it is BRIGHT.
