There's certainly signs that spring has sprung, or is about to.
That particular element has its drawbacks, of course, being a hay-fever sufferer. But the pros definitely outweigh the cons! The dog was sniffing around the council garden area out the front of my place yesterday and was promptly, albeit half heartedly, swooped by one of the local maggies.

My old apprentice called me today. He is a tradesman now. He wasnt asking to be told how to do his job, but explains the issue and everything he has tested thus far. He had already spent a couple hours and the client was getting a bit annoyed so he was a little stressed.
He was on the right track. When i said check the PE cell he said he couldnt find one on the outside of the building. Its not on the outside of the building, so i told him where it is and its in a very impractical spot. He thought i was joking when i said to get to it you will need someone to hold your ankles. Thats how i replaced that sensor 4 years ago.... So he thanked me for telling him how to do his job (im joking, i dont mind helping out if its a situation like that) and we had a bit of the social chat after that. |

Watching Nigella Lawson make cheesecake.
I don't know what it is about her, but she has such a calming effect on me.

Microwave stopped working Sunday causing emergency white goods shopping with my wife
Simple installation stymied by new unit being slightly deeper, requiring power point to be moved. First incision (with holesaw) through rear of cabinet on the wrong side of a stud. This stud was not revealed by stud finder or the photos I took during last kitchen reno before plaster went up. Finally installed new microwave and today found a hack online to turn the stupid beeping and "pleasing” melodies off!

I get it. She's a beautiful lady and a beautiful person. She's exactly the same in person too, highlight of my life.

Natasha Kravchuk of “Natasha’s Kitchen” fame is adorable, but her voice isn’t so appealing. Best enjoyed with the sound off. There’s something viscerally appealing (well, for me anyway! 🙄) about women putting their bare hands into food as they make it.

Took the ute to Soldiers Beach and Norah Head Lighthouse this afternoon. Good drive and great weather for a bit of beach walking and rock-hopping; tide was just about right out.

When I replaced the rear brake hoses on Povo Ute a couple of weeks back, I cleaned and dried the old assemblies.
Called up the fellow who made my new hoses this morning, did he want the dead ones for their brackets (a unique part to the Falcon live axle sets)? Absolutely, he responded - it will help a rush job or someone in a tight spot financially. So I’ll drop them in, next time I’m rambling around the southern highlands. It’s good to see the RRR mindset still exists. |

First of 4 days off. I got around to putting on some new RE003s on the WRX and instant improvement.
Mine were 50/50 as far as legal goes but thought I'd take advantage of the 4 for 3 deal. They were Pirelli Dragon Sports and I got over 40000kms out of them so that was ok but just had no grip when you leaned on them and often spin in the wet. Funny how you don't realise how little tread you have until you get new ones. Also helps when you don't have some old fart put the wrong settings on the wheel alignment too I guess |

Was yesterday but taking the clean van out for a drive in the local mountains.
Nice to be able to drive a car for a change after needing to use the trucks working away. And have the buyer finally pick up a truck I sold him 3 months ago !

Got invited by my old instructor up for a local flight this morning. First time I've flown since I lost my hearing about 3 and a half years ago. Very excited but also a bit nervous as I know my balance is not like it used to be!

so at the hotel im in the general manager was on the desk this morning, so in passing i asked if she drew the short straw working on a sunday? She says no its a rostered thing. So i says to her i know what will happen when she goes home, you asked one of your kids to unload the dishwasher, that wont be done but the sink will be full of dirty dishes. You asked your husband to do the washing, he has done that but used way too much fabric softener so for the next week the house will smell like fabric softener. Last week the lawn didnt get mown because it was too damp, there will be an excuse as to why it wasnt done today even though this week is garden bin week.....
She started to laugh but stopped. Whilst i was joking, there was an errr of truth to my joke. She says im probably right, and asks how i knew... Well simple answer is i have been both a child, a parent and a husband. So yeah, had a bit of a laugh about that. |

You should be collecting those vignettes into a small book.
Today I bolted up the Alfa precats that broke down on the 14th of October last year. The secondary cat (ceramic) started disintegrating and blocking its outlet, over-fuelling at freeway speed then melted the metallic pre-cats, heat warped the manifold flanges and blow-by from the gaskets failing caused some wiring to get cooked. Then the exhaust shop replacing the precats, welded the parts together 180° out. I waited for gaskets from Europe, and started to make the missing precat support bracket which probably allowed excessive vibration in the first instance, causing the dramas. Then I had back issues… As it was only a spare car, it got sidelined and started collecting cobwebs in the street while I inched my way back to full ability. All for the sake of this bracket! The other week, the Gay Nomads asked if I had a spare car. Light bulb came on in my head, and I said give me a fortnight. Several late shifts in the workshop later, I had my bracket made - 30% stiffer than OEM so it shouldn’t suffer fatigue cracking as they do. Then it was test fitted, removed, phosphated and heatproof painted. Finally bolted on today, after having all Saturday to dry. Fits perfectly. Then, thread issues and distortion to standoffs on the precats from where it had presumably been clamped in a vice to do the repairs. Another run to the workshop, more blacksmithing and thread chasing… Now all bolted up, flange nuts torqued to 25Nm. It was fun driving around the block on literally just the 10” shorty headers but now it’s back to legality. So, yes, a saga and a half. Oil change, check over, quick wash and off it will go to stay in Bowral. |

But I did get this shot whilst we were waiting for the engine oil to get up to temp and doing preflight checks. Oh, and a bit of talking, too Gee it was nice to be back in the cockpit again. Flight was great, weather was great (although a little turbulence feeding off the tail of the ranges above 2000ft) and the company was great. Can't ask for much more than that!

My son has been a tad bit annoying this past week. Annoying because he is quite the happy young fellow.
Without getting to deep, as part of a property settlement i had to sell my boat. I loved that thing. So i had a plan that satisfied that criteria, yet effectively keeps the boat close. So last week my kid was saying he was contemplating getting his junior boat licence. He knew i had to off my boat, so i asked if he knows anyone with a boat. His answer was no. He is smart enough to realise getting a boat jr licence is pointless without a boat to drive. So i gave him my boat. So the past week it has been all sorts of questions about his boat. So he has been on it a billion times since he was little but never asked so knows very little. Questions started basic. What year model? 2003. When did i get it? Ordered in 2002, delivered in 2003, so since new. And the questions rolled on from there. But he is a very happy 13 year old. |

Spending a week in palm cove on holiday for the first time since the pandemic, geez it’s busy here.
Checking out all the rental cars, heaps of Everest and MUX. But holy hell, every other rental is an MG of some sort. The established brands must not be on speaking terms with the rental companies any more.

One for the Sydneians, right now the traditional magnolias are just brilliant. So many blooms; it’s a perfect combination of weather for them. Really uplifting to see everywhere I go.

Yep - looking good. I think the extra rainfall we got during summer has helped a bit. I drove down to Bowral the other day & enjoyed seeing the wattle trees in full bloom on the side of the highway.

This one's for Tonz,
Some more old crap I got to look at today. Bumming around setting up this old Sunshine gate to suit the 1870's house. it made me feel good.

rocWiz, back in 90's we needed to cleanup the wall along the front of our house, close mate had a dairy farm out of Victor Harbor, every weekend the old 929 Mazda wagon was loaded with family and empty trailer, the return trip was regularly a way overloaded trailer with rocks and 50lb tyre pressure with the tyres still looking flat. One hill we had to come down.... auto locked into 2nd, brakes on 90% of the downhill run and smoking like hell at the bottom.
But after 5 months labour felt very chuffed at a 16m long x 2m high dry stone wall. I wlways admire you craftsmen. May sound wierd (kinky???) but when I see a person who is very proficient at their craft/work I can sit and watch for ages.
