Here's a question. How do you tell what sort of gear you have on your bike? I.e. Hubs, derailleurs, etc.

I thought there is a imprint of the model on the rear derailleur.

Well, in that case, it's a Shimano Tiagra rear derailleur and Shimano Sora front one. Where do they sit in the quality scale?
What about hubs? Can't see any visible marking on them, unless I take the wheels off the bike perhaps.

Some GoPro footage riding around Perth! Not particularly exciting, but I'm stoked with the camera. Its in 720p HD as well for those with faster internet (just change the quality at the bottom right of the clip! Youtube default 320p sucks!)

Small enough to squeeze between those taxi's thankfully ha ha 2 seconds later and I wouldn't have fit between the Mirrors! Ha ha
Anyway, shoulder width! Any wider is a waste.. I use 37cm wide track drops and 38cm wide bullhorns!!

I currently ride a flat bar road bike from Malvern Star. My ride to work is only 4km or so though and thinking about hitting some trails, downhill rides and just off the road. May also sell the flat bar and ride the MTb to work since its not far. Looking at a budget of max $800 or so and looking at some hardtails. Is there any recommeneded budget MTB's? Anyone ride one of the 29er's?

TDU is looking red hot!... Too bad for Matty Goss though :( who got unecessarily held up..
I am a fan of Andre Greipel too; I love watching Greipel and Cavendish go for the finish especially since they parted ways!

Same here. I have never been as into watching cycling events as I have in the past 12months. Ever since getting my own bike and riding the breeze, it's become as much of an interest if not more than cars themselves.

It does turn into an obsession ..... Last years TdF I had recorded every stage and watched the full stage every night after work... I'm hoping to be in France for the last couple of stages of the 2013 tour and if I can stretch the budget a few of those epic climbs!

Oh man you should do it. That would be epic. I can imagine the atmosphere up the Alp de'huez (sp) for that leg busting climb. Sensational

TDU - 79kms, here I come!
http://tourdownunder.com.au/document...tage-4-map.pdf I'm starting at Mt Pleasant and finishing about 1km from home in Tanunda. Chuck in a category 1 King of the Mountain climb up Mengler's Hill about 45kms in to the ride and it sounds like fun! </sarcasm>

Did it, including the climb up Mengler's Hill in 3h 31m.
Wasn't too warm Shav. Was reasonably cool most of the time. Didn't really warm up until after I finished.

Nah. My next goals are to do the full 12km run for the City to Bay later in the year, and probably the full 100km ride for this year's Amy's Ride. Oh, and the Nissan/BRW Corporate Triathlon in March.

Is Channel 9 showing the TDU during the day in other states? Here in SA, they are only showing a highlights package at 11pm at night! Only today did they show a stage live!
