I've been made aware (your posts are blocked) you've tried selling me ANOTHER car...when the last time you were made fully aware Id moved on and got a G6et MONTHS ago. Remember? You were given a holiday for this last time so I'd suggest you grow up and keep on topic......like I was.
Maybe your efforts will be better spent in the RANGER threads were there are many guys waiting months for their cars. I might have to drop in there soon and see how many people you've helped, seeing as you seem to be showing me far and above the usual effort! Thanks tho..... |

Business must be slow if a car salesman has to try pull punters in a thread in here, on a weekday!
I am sure we could all recall bad experiences with salespeople but my motto is, vote with your feet, which we did recently. Anyone in a respectful marriage would discuss the purchase of any large item.

Quite funny i just noticed this thread. I thought of starting one after my dealings with Jarvis Ford over the last week or so.
I have been looking to upgrade my wifes Territory to one with 7 seats. She currently has an 06 5 seat base model in good condition but needs a 7 seater for her new business venture. i went in and said i have a budget of $4k to $5k and was interested in anything with 7 seats but would like a ghia if it was possible. I test drove a couple and to be honest some were out of the price range but hey what the hell ill drive any ford if someone lets me! So we settle on one and the salesperson said she would try her hardest for us. No go. only took round 2 hrs to establish that. Shook hands walked out and got on with life. So i get a call 2 weeks later, "we got one for you" 05 ghia 7 seater 167K. I ask is it in our budget range and get told looking good. I spend another 1-2hrs playing around with "oh ill do my best" and "oh the manger has knocked it back can you be flexible?" So i thought oh well ill go the extra $735. Then they start looking for an xtra $2k. The clencher is when i loose my temper cause they wasted my Saturday morning trying to sell me a car they never had any intention of selling me in my budget they say " oh you are unrealistic with your price" So why did you FN call me i then? They said if i had a better trade in the wasnt a base model i would have more luck. I pointed out that when they sold me the car 2 yrs ago they raved about it. Was really disappointed with their antics and will not be going back to them again. Im black and white when it comes to dealing with my customers and i expect the same when i shop round. These games drive me crazy as i suspect it does others. When will these dealers realise that we a re not all schmucks, some of do have an idea about cars and money. Just do the deal and get on with it.

When I made enquiries about the R-Spec it was only my wife had given her blessing based on what we'd seen of the photochops on the Forums; this was well before the release. She said it was the Black/Red one or nothing.
After that it was left to me to negotiate. She has her full licence now and we went looking at a few dealerships. The choice was essentially between a Ford Focus Titanium and a Hyundai Veloster. Both dealerships showed her a lot of respect; the Ford dealer offered to let us have a Focus for a weekend and the Hyundai dealer was also good pointing out all the convenience features and steering her away from the matt paint finish!! I've ordered her a Focus as a surprise Christmas present!!

HendrixHC I'm with you. I turn over vehicles quite often and for once thought I'd cross shop as I normal deal with Stillys. Tried Jarvis, and without going around the roundabout here, next time I'll stick to what I know. Very old school sales tactics.

Anyone noticing a trend here.....and it's not a new trend....and it's certainly not restricted to any brands specifically
It's where stereotypes come from |

The in laws were keen despite my objections, but after a week of stuffing them around with their finance application (finance manager on leave, wrong details entered on application), they bailed on the deal. So I hunted around and found a lower k 08 BF2 XT with extras in another yard for 3k less. Bought it cash for them, didn't bother trading and sold the old Jackaroo for 3.5k to another yard. I wouldn't go near big dealers again, unless you want to pay for their overheads, you can buy better elsewhere. |

To me I would've thought when you marry someone you become a team and you cannot just go out and willy nilly buy something you want/need/would die without it. Too many factors play a decision in buying a car especially for an example and should be decided by both, not one and deal with the decision. Anyway, back on topic, was decided to trade the bus in on two cars so went and saw the dealer, said we want this and that, got asked why? (you're selling the effin cars and you ask why, you should be going out of your way to seal this), only to get effed around with finance within the dealership and evidently knocked back, the time frame from going into the dealership to being told no was five and a half days. Now if the finance manager knew we were going to be knocked back cause they have the authority to check your credit history would you not keep your client waiting and stressing over this and at least call them and say we do not think this will go through but we'll try anyway? As a result it's now thrown my image of the brand.

I've never understood the whole "run it past the wife first" routine. Sure its a cop out for tyre kickers, but do men as a general rule lose all sensibility, logic and reasoning once they get hitched??? Why do they feel compelled to run it past the woman first?

The wife thing.
I get permission first, then go out and hunt for a deal. Before I take the last step, I ask for final approval. Probably do this for the self assurance, if it turns out there is a better deal down the track or the car is a lemon, it wasn't ALL my decision to purchase. Works for me, don't know or care about others. Customers choice. |

The wife Thing - I make all the decisions where money gets spent but when its her money shes has the final say. Its only fair.

In some relationships money is not an issue and so a 50k purchase by either party would barely raise an eyebrow. To others, an outlay of 50k may be a bigger deal. Either way it is entirely up to the individual/s. Personally, I have always done the wheeling and dealing but I still run a deal past her. She rarely objects as I set the bar high regardless, but on occasion she has questioned and we have discussed, I cant see a problem. Having said that, I bought a house without her even knowing. My old girl needed to downsize and before she put it on the market I stopped in to see a broker one afternoon on the way home from work. Had approval in 24hrs a contract signed within 7days, settled straight away. Brought the contract home and showed it to her, she just rolled her eyes...lol |

The wife thing.....I TALK to my wife about any large purchases(cars), out of respect to her and her opinion. I want her to like the car aswell.....espescially if she will drive it.
People who don't love or at least like their car will never respect or look after it. Hence it turns to rot and gets abused. I know many women with nice neat cheap cars they don't care about....and they wouldn't lift a finger to wash or look after their car. My wife helped me pick my car....she LOVES it and does cleaning and regular checks on it. And she's by no means a gear head. Any CARSALESMAN who thinks 'asking their wife' is a lie or excuses is more often then not....wrong. And as if that even compares to the lieing and screwing that dealers do to customers....please! |

I've used the "need to chat to my wife" line with car salesmen.... and I'm not married.
I find it's a polite way to get out of the conversation and then out of the dealership when one gets the feeling that they would like to tie you to a chair to 'do a deal'.

I'd love to know or see the expression's on the husbands face when he comes home to find a brand new 50k kitchen that has just been installed without his approval or knowledge.
To those that query that they don't get the reasoning behind why a husband need's to ask his wife, it's simple it's a mutual purchase. |
