BS. All Mustangs being built out of the Flat Rock, Michigan plant. Both LHD and RHD. This plant also produces the Fusion as well.

Based on this theory, how do any imported vehicle survive?
bmw, audi, the 86 etc.

I read on other forums that this will be a flash in the pan like the monaro.
The monaro was a locally made product, so it had its limit.
Mustang is imported, you have to order one or hope there is one left over at the dealership, I don't think ford are going over compensate and order 50000 Mustangs in hope they are all going to sell.
If you want one, put your name on the list and patiently wait.
Ford should have a new advertising slogan, "I'm waiting for a Mustang" (similar slogan to "I bought a jeep" )

The term sales staff describes the job, not product specialist, sales. They sell, not always the right info though.

I presume that Ford have been testing RHD Mustangs in Oz for sometime, as I saw a (dark) red one traveling Melbourne bound along the Western Highway yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately for me, I was traveling in the other direction and only got the briefest of glimpses at it.

Currently driving a 2015 Mustang in the states. This car is completely amazing, the finish is 100 times better than my FG falcon. I really cant believe how good this car is. Tonight i was leaving a place and from under the doors came a silhouette of a mustang on the ground. It's the little things like that, that make this car great. The only thing i can fault is a slight dash rattle that stops once pressure is applied. It has 3000 miles on it. I am constantly finding excuses to drive it, my wife looked at me weird when i wanted to drive 300m to the pool today haha

I asked the other day about what an Australian-spec Mustang actually costs in the USA, to put things in a proper perspective unlike a lot of media comparisons that only look at the US Mustang prices without the options that will be fitted to Australian Mustangs and ignore the lack of sales tax in quoted MSRPs. I had a look at the 'build & price' for the Mustang in the US. Dealing just with the GT fastback manual for now (the Ecoboost varies a bit, eg the Performance Pack is $1995, but is essentially the same), the GT Premium with destination ($825) and the Performance Pack ($2495) comes to US$39,620 or AU$51,900 (in round figures). Triple Yellow or Ruby Red (there is also Race Red) are $4-500 extra, the automatic is $1195.

Note that this does not include sales tax because this varies by state and even cities/local governments can charge their own sales tax. Note this is not mentioned at all in the Ford build and price system, because no price displayed in the USA includes the sales tax, not even a packet of Corn Flakes. Because I used the Dearborn zip code in the configurator, Michigan charges 6% sales tax - we are now up to US$42,000 as a comparison to the Australian RRP.

At today’s exchange rate this is AU$55,050, or actually just over our RRP that has 10% GST and a boat ride included. On the other hand in the USA you could expect to get a discount of the MSRP, although probably not much yet as it is still a pretty new product.

The Michigan 6% is probably not a bad figure to use as a representative sales tax figure, because while some states have no sales tax at all, several places such as Chicago and the state of Tennessee are over 9%. I'm not going to get into other registration fees because I get the sense they vary enormously (eg based on the price of the vehicle) and can be complicated to calculate, but more to the point the Australian price does not include on road costs either. As a point of reference for drive-away figures I would estimate, 80% of states charge less than what we pay in Australia while 15% charge a good deal more.

As for Australian Mustangs being "fully equipped", it certainly doesn't look that way and the specs on the Ford Australia site show now options beyond powertrain choices. I don’t know which diff ratio is coming, whether the standard 3.73 or optional 3.55. I don't think we get the 401A package (Shaker Pro audio system, memory driver's seat and mirrors, blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert) which is $1795, there is also active cruise control with collision mitigation & rain-sensing wipers for $1195, Premier Trim with Color Accent Group (from what I can see this adds colour-accented door trims and aluminum dash panel) at $1295, voice-activated navigation $795 (you would think this would be part of the Sync voice controls!), enhanced security package (active instead of passive alarm, locking centre console and wheel nuts) $395 and the Recaro seats at $1595 (with this the earler Premium trim with colour option is $395). Ticking all the boxes gets you up to US$45,395, or US$48,120 after sales tax, which is AU$63,073.

There are some other items that are potentially a dealer-fit item such as reverse sensors ($295), spare tyre ($195), lock nuts and other wheel options including 20’s ($1295).

Comparing this to the non-Premium GT that has a base price $4,000 lower, but after converting to AUD and adding GST this is $5500. The extra features of the Premium are: dual-zone climate control, leather seats, smaller display screen, chrome instead of brushed aluminium trim on speaker grilles, air vents and so on, aluminium pedals, ambient lighting, premium door trim, illuminated sill plates, universal garage door opener, heated and cooled front seats, Pony projection lights, rear diffuser (just blackout differences?), Selectable Drive Modes (ESC settings) and a couple of things that I don’t think would be actually included in Australia - SiriusXM Satellite Radio and HD Radio, satellite radio isn’t offered here and I think our HD radio uses a different system.
