Speed camera question

Hi Guys
Does anyone know if you get caught by a speed camera, and the camera has not been tested in the last 12 months, would it still be valid?
The camera in question is Princes Freeway, Forsyth Road Bridge, Geelong Bound, Point Cook. I got a feeling it may be turned off.
Last annual test: 29/03/2018

Think you will find that camera is active regardless of ongoing road works.

that's an 80 limit because of the roadworks. Are you saying you went through >100?

I haven't looked at the regulations, but the way those pages read, it seems like an annual test is required. If it hasn't been done, you might be able to get out of it, if you really want to try that hard.

Check one fo the anti-speeding fine websites. They're full of usefull information.

Never tried myself, always just copped it and moved on.

Those cameras were last tested in March 2018. The speed limit was 100 back then. The speed limit is now 80. So these cameras not only were last tested at 100 but also over a year ago. I need to find out if the tests are required to be carried out yearly

Yes was going just under 100

Road Safety Regulations Act

37 Use of fixed digital road safety cameras
For the purposes of sections 80, 80A, 81, 83A(1),
84(7) and 84H(2)(a) of the Act, a fixed digital
RSC is used in the prescribed manner if—
(a) the speed calculation unit (if any) has been
tested in accordance with regulation 35
within 12 months before the occasion of its
use;

This camera was tested in March 2018 and it was a 100 zone back then

The other thing to remember is that it may have been tested but the certificate not uploaded,
don't be surprised if you front up to court ready for a win and find they have a current certificate.



Actually,
looking at the interactive map, all other camera sites appear to be in date, so maybe you're lucky
fingers crossed mate.

I called them and they actually said the latest was March 2018, but yes will keep that in mind

since the 80 is only temporary for roadworks, the camera probably hasn't been reset from 100.

I drive that road every day, and a few times I’ve driven through at 90 following the cars in front, pure inattention on my part, and there’s no fines been sent. So you’re all good.

If fines were being sent out just about everyone driving that road would have lost their licence by now.

I have been told that this camera has been turned off by one of the construction workers. No fine yet so seems like its all good. Thanks guys

Rather than taking that path, if you do receive a fine and you haven’t had 1 for a few years prior, you can always try the letter approach to whoever issued the fine, saying you weren’t paying attention and it was a genuine mistake for the speed you were doing, would they consider a warning instead? There will be info on the fine regarding how to go about it.
My wife and mother have both gotten out of fines that way

Yeah i had done that many years ago but i think it only stands if you are under 10km/h over the limit

The irony of all this is, it’s probably made you more observant and compliant with respect to speed limits, than if you’d received a fine.

There was a story in one of the Melbourne Papers a few years ago, a Statesman
Taxi had a device that switched plates.

The pics in the article showed the car with the different number plates that had changed between two tolling points on a section of Citylink.
