You might see on my profile that I'm am fortunate enough to own (amongst others) one of the last built Falcon XR8's from the AU and FGX series. Each week I drive them back to back and it's interesting to compare the differences between two models some 13 years apart.
Each one is a joy to drive in its own right. The FGX has power to spare, very smooth in its delivery, handles like its on rails and is a real pleasure to drive. Wind the clock back 13 years you have the last of the AU Falcons. First thing you notice is the seating position - much lower and the dash feels further away. You can feel that it's a much lighter car. Driving it you can throw it around easier. Acceleration and breaking aren't the same as the FGX but the old Windsor makes a wonderful noise getting there (something you don't notice so much in the FGX). The T5 is notchy and a bit agricultural but fun at the same time. In the looks department I think that the AU has improved with age and you appreciate this when alongside newer models. Overall I luv my Falcons and both are keepers which I'll enjoy for many years.

Up until the fgx to me the au xr8 220s in manual were the best xr8 ford built. I absolutely loved mine had to sell it because the wife couldn't drive a manual. Decided to try an xr6 turbo for something different and while fast, looses in every other aspect and I want my 220 back.
Enjoy those awesome cars mate

Photos of both definitely needed! Always loved the 220's, and the fgx speaks for itself

As i've said in my AU3 XR8 build thread i owned a BF GT that was 260rwk's [full herrod exhaust cams, lowered with bilstien's & king springs sl/ssl]
Yes it was very quick off the mark, power all the way to redline it handle ok unreal exhaust note idle lumpy but compared to the AU3 XR8 which i own now same amount of K's as the GT-135,000 XR8 147,000 lowered with koni yellow's & king springs sl/ssl the XR8 is standard with Tri-y's 2.5' single exhaust the AU is lighter in the front more nimble to throw around in the corners looks heaps better the black leather interior is heaps better then the fake plastic that the B series have the stereo isn't integrated like the following models do have i can go on and on about the AU is better then the GT but i'll stop for now the GT in question the XR8 |

My dream is to one day have a garage big enough to get an AU XR8 or Fairmont Ghia V8 and fix them up for a weekend cruiser. Have a massive soft spot for these cars and as time goes on I love them more and more.
