However I'm not overweight but I need to swing the door open more than most other cars, it's a 2 door with bloody big doors. It's just a pain having to walk from the back of the supermarket car park

It’s noticeable in the sunlight though not that bad compared to a dent or scratch and will buff out but that’s not the point. I don’t know what kind of thinking it takes to use someone else’s property as a table. Quote:
I often go around and put my fingers between our door and the car next to us to ensure she doesn’t bump it. I do the same on my side if I’m a bit too close to the car beside me. It’s not hard to be neighbourly and take a little care. Last edited by LoudPipes; 13-12-2014 at 01:25 PM. |

On the wide swinging door thing, I look for a car park where I can swing my door open fully on my 2 door. Either an end space a 45 degree or one with a pole next to the drivers side. Has worked well so far.

There are a few posts in this thread that say its wrong to judge etc and not to worry about what other people think (usually the people with excessive dings and dents) ? Do they have their heads buried in the sand?
We get judged everyday for every little thing.. try and not mow your lawns for a few months and see if your neighbours consider you a grub. Dont get a haircut for a few months and same thing. Go shopping with no shirt on and watch the people chuckle and poke fun at your expense. Going back to the ketchup stain on front of your white shirt... we dont present ourselves in this way because WE CARE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK!!! In fact we go out of our way to impress other people. Hence the question about dings and dents... the question should be rephrased, how much damage (dings and dents) can you get away with before you are judged. |

3 dents. Pretty sure Stephen Hawkings released a theory on this and found that if you have more than three, then people with judge you.

There's a big difference about caring about one's appearance, and caring what other people think about one's appearance.

My belief is to fix them as they happen. If you don't then they accumulate & soon enough you own what others consider a "bucket"!
When selling a car, having obvious dings & scrapes drops the value substantially. Personally I think it just looks tacky & somewhat reflects on the owners attitude. I refuse to park next to vehicles with dents on principal. If they don't care about their car, they're certainly not going to give 2 hoots about yours. |

This afternoon while waiting for my wife to finish her appointment at the Podiatrist I watched a women park in the disabled parking bays in front of me.
I’ve drawn a little detail of it. Car ‘A’ (Nissan Tiida) was already parked in its bay when I arrived. Car ‘B’ (Nissan Maxima) arrived shortly after me and drove in on an angle grazing for want of a word the rear driver’s side bumper on car ‘A’ along the passenger side of her car ‘B’. The driver of car ‘B’ a women of about 80 got out, walked to the rear of her car, looked at how she’d park and then walked off towards the shops. About 20 minutes later the driver and passenger of car ‘A’ (2 women roughly in their 60’s) arrived back to find their car had been hit and couldn’t be reversed from the parking spot. I went over and told them what I had seen and they then sat in their car to wait for the other driver to return. Unfortunately about 15 minutes later my wife arrived back and I didn’t get to see the outcome. I thought I’d share it as it highlights 4 things. 1. To hit another car and to leave the scene without even backing off from the other car shows some people shouldn’t be driving. 2. It doesn’t matter how careful you are in a carpark, it only takes one person who it totally incapable to damage your vehicle. 3. Being judged just because you have dents in your car doesn't mean you don't care for it, it's more likely an indication others don't. 4. Repairing dents caused by persons unknown is paid for from your own pocket and for some it's an expense not easily afforded. |
