My other car which is a brand new nissan x-trail was involved in an accident and need to to get it fixed. Very minor damage though. Does anyone know someone who is really good with the work in pr around Brisbane?

When I lived at Alexandra Hills I used Bernie at Capalaba.
Rarely had to take anything back, I was a fussy bastard too - let him know it though. He knew I expected a high standard of work be it an insurance job or money out of my own pocket. Dunno if Bernie still runs the business or it's standing on his merit. Was most satisfied with the work his shop put out. They never did major smash repair for me as far as putting a body on a rack, just bumper and boot/bonnet repair/spray after rearenders/wife running up the *** of car in front. http://www.capbodyworks.com.au/ Cheers!

I took my car to Shipstone this morning as they are just a km away from my home. Unfortunately, they said they only do straight forward jobs and can't chase up insurers for payment as mine isn't one.
On the day accident happened it was straight forward as the other party came and hit my car from the side as I was going straight in a straight lane. They apologised, exchanged details and took details of a witness. But then the next day evening the actual owner of the car called me saying "am the owner of the car into which you crashed last morning...." I had to correct him to say that I haven't crashed into anyone explained what happened. He insisted that it was my fault. I didn't say much as I have a witness statement, photos and if required I can get CCTV footage as it happened in a station car park. But I don't think there is any such need as the photos and witness I have are more than enough to prove who is at fault. Here are the pictures: This is the ariel view from google maps (not the actual ones.. I made up to describe the accident for insurance purpose) for better understanding with out the need to put together the whole story: Now I need to find someone who could take up this and get it done for me. Otherwise I will have to either pay from my pocket and get it from the other party which I am not sure how it works or speak to my insurer and see if they can help me in this situation.

Metro Nissan at Windsor can advise you on a local shop that can do a good job for you. Call or drop in to the parts dept as they hear all the gossip
but not the service or sales as they deal with the cheapest they can get. |

Thanks Focusfan. Just went there and spoke to them. They said in my case though I am not at fault I will have to go through my insurer and they will get everything done. I do not have an issue going with my insurer but I don't like to get it fixed from their choice of repairer as I wouldn't know what kind of job they do. My car is only 2 months old and want to make sure that the repair is first class.

Yes Arnaldo, spoke to them already. They are kind of asking me to get my car fixed from their choice of repairers (not really insisting though). In my case both insurance companies are different. I am not in any rush to get the car fixed. Just want to get it done right with out any dramas.

If you want to use your own repairer, your insurance company will need to allow this option. I know mine does (otherwise I wouldn't have used them).
If you don't want to use one on their list, you'll have to pay for it yourself or try your luck with the offending party's insurance company. Although I don't think they're very receptive to this (as they don't want to pay). I've used Exclusive Auto Centre in Newstead http://exclusiveautocentre.com.au/ and they do an awesome job. They always have some wicked cars too in the shop!

There are laws in Australia preventing insurance companies and others demanding things like , must take to preferred repairer. The ACCC is
currently looking into Suncorp and AAMI using their own repair shops and bypassing the independent repairer as creating a monopoly. You need to say to your insurer you want to go to a repairer that has been recommended by people in the know, not theirs. Just a question, did you ask Metro if they know the repairer that they want you to go to.? Maybe they are a good shop. If they have shoddy reputation then you can refuse. Also demand genuine parts be used and not bash and bog the panels. There are ways, just push a bit harder. |

Yes I did asked Metro Nissan but they insisted to go through insurer in my case. They get all their work done at Accent smash repairs. Good news is my insurer is ok to get my car fixed where I like. So, I will go shop around and see who's good and can go a step further to fix up small extra bits and pieces like scratches and stuff. Not that my car has any as its only 2 months old but just in case if there are any from the dealer as I bought it under 2013 plate clearance.
Front wheel is all scratched and needs replacement. But its good to retain as a full size spare wheel or an extra wheel to have handy on a four wheel drive. Not sure whether smash repairers will let me keep it.

AAMI and Suncorp are now under same ownership and Suncorp have setup their own repair shops and are trying to bypass the private repairer.
This is why the ACCC is investigating this as a monopoly and could send many private shops bust due to lack of work. They rely on being a recommended repairer by the major insurance companies to stay afload as general work from the smaller insurance companies and private work is not enough for the mid to large shops. At best they would be putting off half the workers to cut costs and then look to smaller lease properties as their big shops would be too high on lease or rental to stay in. We would end up with a small amount of large shops and corner bog shops. Would be a monopoly and not good. They also have been instructing the panel shops to use cheap after market panels and lamps and not genuine to save them money. Allainz are still insisting on genuine but who knows what the future holds. Good luck with the Xtrail repairs. Make sure you look well at the work done when finished. |

I am in Windsor. Been to Exclusive auto centre but they are exclusive to exotic Lambos and Ferraris so my Japanese X-Trail is too expensive for them to deal with.
Got quotes from Hadwen's prestige collisions $2530 and Shipstone $2670. Am leaning towards Shipstone for their reputation and quality of work.

In between I got caught up with the party who hit my car. As expected the other party's insurance company has sent a letter saying am responsible for the accident even for the fact that am going straight in a single lane and the other party came and crashed on my side. There isn't a single scratch on front end of my car so I don't understand how I am responsible unless my car is designed to drive sideways. That would solve parallel car park problem for millions. Silly car manufacturers wasting time and money on automatic reverse park assist.

Stick to your guns. If they persist ask for a letter stating how they conclude that the accident is your fault.
Then present the letter to your insurance company with all the facts and ask them how it could be your fault when you got hit in the side. Also wont hurt to talk to police for another opinion as they know all the road rules better than any of us. If they do not want to comment ask them for off the record opinion. |

You are getting a lot of bad advice above.
You will need to read your product disclosure statement to whatever policy you have purchased from your insurer. If they offer choice of repairer great, if not you will need to go through their process. Even using a third parties insurer, you CANNOT insist on your own repairer. No insurance company has to organise your repairs or authorise them. Many do, but it is a courtesy only not a legal requirement. As a third party legally it is up to you to mitigate your loss. Usually by getting at least 2 quotes and sending a letter of demand. An at fault party only legally needs to pay your fair and reasonable loss. Not what may be an over inflated repair.
