Default Retro-reflective decals.

I've been thinking about a set of hockey-stick like stripes for my XW, and have a few designs made up. One in black below.

I've also been open to a grey metallic, so when a job came up at work with some retro-reflective material (same as road signs), I whipped up a small design that could fit in otherwise dead space, and popped it on the Futura to see how it'd go in real life.

I think it's a bit... over the top. The retro-reflectivity is so high that the car can be parked three houses away across the road, and an iPhone LED will light it up like it's a headlight. Pic below for comparison with/without flash. They grey when non directly lit is almost the same lightness as the yellow when it blends in so it's an extra huge contrast.

I doubt I'll go with the final stripes as the reflective material - but does anyone know of restrictions on the use of retro-reflective material on road cars?

My sis suggested 1mm wide pinstriping over every of the car, which I think would make an amazing tron-look for a modern vehicle - not so much on the XW

Hey mate, I've seen your car a few times around Bathurst & IMO I like the clean look of it without stripes.

I don't think you will have any problems with a reflective stripe because the GT's had them from the factory. Plus look at all of the vehicles from the mines running around town with fluro reflective stipes. Even the police cars & other emergency vehicles are covered in it.

As far as I am aware there are no rules to use of reflective vinyl on cars. Maybe drop into the RTA with your plans & see if they have an issue with it. But I don't think they will care.

VK Commodores had reflective stripes on some models.
Can't see a problem.
