VE's aren't bad cars, if that is what she wants why are you trying to "dissuade her" out of the purchase?
...I'd go for a Calais though.

Insist that she drive the available price/spec alternatives.

I even do this myself.
I have not bought a Ford if it was not the best car in the market for my $/needs.

There would be one of every 6cyl sedan avail for 25k, and many of them will sound better, go better, feel better than the holden - the only thing you cannot win is looks - that is too subjective.

If you want to sway her decision, do the research first and make sure the Ford she drives has extras she will wow at (including colour).

Do this and she will make the right decision ... it may even be a Ford.

If an SV6 is best so be it but I just want to show there's better options around. Thanks.
What are the better options? Why do you say they are better? Why do you care?

Hell, if I wanted a Falcon XR6 and my GF was trying to tell me to buy an SV6 without a damn good reason I'd tell her to shut the hell up.

We recently upgraded my mrs car as her 2002 honda integra was not ideal for us.
I was stumped for a while on what to get, was so close to buying her a ve clubsport untill i found a 2011 FPV GS supercharged with 19,000km and extended warrenty for the right price. She loves driving it. I cant wipe the smile off my face when i take it out for squirt.
Few things i kept in mind whilst looking..
Under 60,000km: CHECK
Luxurious: CHECK
Fit adult passengers in the back seat comfortably: CHECK
Cruise Control: CHECK
Safety: CHECK
Power for me to enjoy: CHECK CHECK CHECK.

DONE.
SOLD.

Forget it, pal. Your attempt to steer her in another direction will FOREVERMORE be your fault, the fact you did she will remind you for YEARS and YEARS, I speak from experience.
Despite the fact that shes probably a big girl and can decide what car she likes for any reason, much like us blokes.

Let her take a SV6 for a test drive, then go let her drive the best XR6T you can find for 25K.
She wont even remember the Commodore.

Yeah horses for courses. I just want to show her variety/ alternatives for that price range. Criteria are grunt, enough room for real estate signs as baby seat/ safety, fun to drive, not a *******. If SV6 is what aw truly wants, I'll help her find a good one. I think some I you are getting carried away thinking I want to take over her car choice. Just want to be as helpful as possible.

You could nearly get into a brand new Honda Accord Euro (base spec manual). Still a good car to drive and a good size.

Does it have to be a 'large' car, or does it just need a big boot?

Impreza sedan has a big boot. Nice to drive as well - especially WRX.

A couple of things you should do.

First is find out why she doesn't like falcons. If it's "just because", see next step. If it's due to **** experiences with them etc, you're flogging a dead horse and convince her to buy an HQ Monaro.

If it's just because, suggest a test drive of bf xr6/6T/8/whatever or an fg. Something falcon/fpv. If she's still not keen, flogging a dead horse HQ Monaro.

If she doesn't want an HQ Monaro, get a new one.

I know of plenty of V6 VE's that have oil consumption issues... both the 3.0 and the 3.6L. If you do indeed buy one, watch the oil level like a friggin hawk.

My second idea is get her to drive an sv6 and a FG g6et/xr6t......but cover the badge on the steering wheel and don't let her see the car till she gets in.
Sounds funny but I did that with my wife years ago.....and her best friend who was a commadore lover. Her friend now drives an FG falcon

And my bro has commadores for bunnings work cars.......and yes oil is a big problem.....along with interiors falling apart! And they're SLOW

I still say force her to test drive a g6et. Best bang for your buck!!!! silky sexy and fast

as others have said it really needs to be her choice but I would say to her before you write off the falcon take one for a drive after all she has nothing to lose by test driving. she may well be surprised by what a good package the FG2 is . I just bought one and the only thing I don't understand is why they aren't selling

Update: she has fallen in love with Mondeo. She looked at alternatives and is happier for it. Moral of story, dissuading against what someone wants is bad, but encouraging and giving information is good for all.

Explain to her in simple maths:

GF + Ford = FalconXV

GF + Holden = single GF

Simples!
